We went to this traditional restaurant in Naples and had some of the best pasta we’ve ever eaten in Italy! I had gnocchi with tomato sauce and cheese – simple and so flavorful. My husband had spaghetti with octopus, olives, and capers – also amazing. The pasta was high quality, perfectly cooked al dente, just how it should be. Great food, great vibe – nothing more to say, just go and enjoy! Ciao!

As someone originally from Naples, I’ve been to many osterie over the years, but Osteria della Mattonella stands out as a true classic. This time, my wife (from DC) and I were in town with two friends visiting Naples for the first time. I wanted them to experience a real, traditional Neapolitan meal—and this place delivered perfectly. We started with a fresh buffalo mozzarella and tomato salad, paired with marinated aubergines—simple but full of flavour and character. For our pastas, we shared the ragù napoletano and pasta alla puttanesca. The ragù was rich and deeply comforting, cooked exactly the way it should be, and the pasta itself was al dente perfection. For our mains, we shared meatballs and friarielli (Neapolitan broccoli rabe)—a classic combination that brought everyone to the table smiling. Everything was paired with a bottle of Valpolicella, which complemented the meal beautifully. The atmosphere was intimate, charming, and full of soul. You feel like you're stepping into someone’s home, where everything is made with love and tradition. The service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. This is the kind of place that reminds you why Neapolitan cuisine is so special. Highly recommended for anyone wanting an authentic experience. Make sure to book in advance very busy here, and we were lucky to get in

Naples has become really touristic and it's hard find places that have not become tourist traps. I would say that this is not exactly an exception since it's packed with tourists, but at least they keep the quality of the food high and the prices low, which is pretty much all that matters. We had gnocchi alla sorrentina (9 EUR) and pasta alla genovese (8 EUR). Both dishes were really good. Pasta super aldente, as it should be, and a good amount of meat in the genovese too. The coperto is 2 EUR per person which is a bit high, but at least you get some nice bread. The coffee was amazing, and of course served in a glass cup as the Napoletan law states. The staff was not very friendly, but not rude either. Just doing their job, which is fine. This osteria is really good and they have all the traditional dishes that you may want to try while visiting Naples. Definitely a good option when looking for traditional cuisine for good prices.

We had a delicious dinner in this cozy restaurant! Although we didn‘t had a reservation, we still got a table in a quiet area. The food was amazing! We definitely recommend this restaurant and would come again.

🌟 Osteria della Mattonella – A Hidden Gem in Naples! 🍝🐙 During our recent visit to Naples, we stumbled upon Osteria della Mattonella, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. Despite not having a reservation, the gracious owner welcomed us warmly and managed to find us a cozy spot in this charming, family-run trattoria. The ambiance is authentically Neapolitan, adorned with vintage decor and hand-painted tiles that exude a rustic charm. The atmosphere made us feel like we were dining in a local’s home, adding to the overall delightful experience. We ordered the octopus pasta, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the octopus was tender and flavorful, complemented by a rich tomato sauce with hints of capers and olives. It’s evident that the dishes are prepared with love and tradition, capturing the essence of Neapolitan cuisine. The service was attentive and friendly, making us feel like part of the family. The prices were reasonable, and the portions were generous, ensuring we left both satisfied and eager to return. If you’re seeking an authentic dining experience in Naples, Osteria della Mattonella is a must-visit. Just remember to make a reservation if possible, as this gem is popular among locals and visitors alike.

Such a great food experience! This was literally the first place we ate at in Naples and it was everything we imagined eating here would be: cosy inviting space, friendly and helpful staff, and above all delicious food! The staff and service was great, they were very helpful with us trying to order the most tasty food on the menu. The interior was cosy and comfortable, don’t expect a huge space, although there is extra seating in the basement dining area. The food was delicious and although we’re arrived shortly before they closed for the afternoon, they welcomed us in and weren’t pushing about us leaving by closing time - giving us time to enjoy their food. Honestly, I forgot the names of the dishes we had but if you show them these dishes I’d recommend getting them: ragu and something else delicious haha!

Best meal we had in the city… feels like you’re being cooked for personally in someone’s home. Food was incredible and also didn’t feel heavy. 10/10.

Simple, honest local food that doesn’t try to be over-sophisticated—and that’s exactly what makes it so good. Everything we had was exceptionally delicious, and the service was warm and friendly.

Yelp
While the historic centre overflows with pizza joints, the Spanish Quarter is the place to find traditional Neapolitan cuisine in unspoilt family run trattorias. Osteria della Mattonella, run by the La Marangio family, specialises in all the home cooked classics, but the restaurant itself is the real draw, decorated as it is in blue and green majolica tiles that have graced the walls since the 1700s. The pasta is made super traditional and taste a bit under al dente so be prepared. Just order anything that includes their homemade ragu. Great selection of wine and you'll love their Red. Cheers

Yelp
When we asked a tour guide/friend in Naples where to eat this was the place she told us to go. We called the same day and were able to get a reservation for that night and we are glad we did because the food is wonderful! The food here was so authentic and flavorful. We have visited Italy many times and this is one of the best meals we have had. Even though our Italian is very limited and it appeared the staff had fairly limited English, we were able to order with ease. If you are in Naples you cannot pass this place up.

Yelp
After walking around Napoli for 2 hours we were hungry and after skimming through some restaurants on Yelp we thought this one looked pretty good. However be aware of reservations during peak hours. Luckily with my boyfriend's Italian they were kind enough to let us in after 10 minutes wait. I don't believe I saw any tourists and if they were Italian so if you go be prepared to have Google Translate on you when speaking to the servers. We ordered beans in pasta and beans, ragu and courgette (neapoletain style) which I believe are some traditional dishes in Napoli. The service was wonderful and if we could we come back again.

Yelp
Good pasta. Great polpetti. Cute Neopolitan kitchen. Extra room downstairs. 2e table. Wifi.
