3 Best Day Trips from Florence | Condé Nast Traveler

"Housed within a former priest’s house, La Canonica is a well-run Tuscan cooking school where no detail is forgotten or overlooked. Steps from the school itself is a walled kitchen garden—designed by the same landscape architect who created the Vatican Gardens—with seasonal plots and beds containing more than 180 varieties of vegetables and herbs. These are used throughout the class, and you can take tours of the garden, too." - Bridget Arsenault

We came here a couple nights since we are staying at the Rosewood and it was the most convenient way to have dinner. The setting is beautiful in the evenings as the sun is going down and you dine under the stars, very magical unless there are screaming kids around. There have been more hits than misses in terms of the food: the Florentina T-bone steak, sea bass, prosciutto, burrata and grilled chicken were particularly good while the rest were not. Their desserts are not to be missed either. Staff are always very friendly and attentive, and it was a pleasure dining here. One thing to add is the variety on the menu is not the largest so after 2 days of eating here, there was nothing new we could try out.

Really nice restaurant at the Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco Hotel. The setting, the food and the service is top class. It is a bit expensive, but you have to take into account the hotel within which it's located. Reservation is recommended and easily done over the Internet. The have a wood fired oven and a charcoal oven for the grill menu. Just driving to the Castiglion del Bosco is a great experience, as the scenery is as good as it gets in Tuscany.

Great selection of wines and local delicacies. Tiramisu is highly recommended. Very calm and picturesque atmosphere.

Life changing pasta. Pizza was good but not great. Amazing Brunello wine. Convenient if staying in hotel. Expensive.

An amazing location with stunning vistas and great food. Walk up to the abbey area while waiting for the next course as the views are amazing. The bread with house oil is special. You will not regret drive up the hill to get there - even though it is a tough drive !!

Dining in an amazing courtyard, beside a castle ruin and in front of an old church … the setting is fantastic … I ate here several times, repeating several dishes … The service is spectacular and the team working there, including the chef’s are great fun and very welcoming. Truly worth the drive and experience! Book in advance if you are not staying at the hotel!

Oh boy where to start here? The restaurant really lacks in almost any aspect. The food was a huge disappointment. Dishes are under seasoned, dry and lack flavors you’d expect in the area. It almost feels they have taken the gut out of Tuscan food and Americanized it. Not a single dish was good here and it really takes skill to serve mediocre pasta in Italy. The service was not attentive and the final bill had over 120€ of items we never had. Glad we experienced this on our first night though - enough time to make alternative arrangements and avoid any restaurant on this Rosewood property going forward. Probably the worst restaurant in a Rosewood property we have been so far around the world. Huge disappointment and needs serious improvement.
