This place is listed in a blog of the top hidden gems in Venice. Well, it did not live up to the hype. Expensive mediocre food with mediocre service. Also, the server brought the bill straight to me, as a female POC it made me feel some type of way. Atmosphere was cute though.

Food was well prepared and delicious. Service was authentic, approachable and available. Atmosphere was honest, particularly curated and ambient. Loved the music playlist. Tiramisu was delicate but rich at the same time. Off the beaten path on a quiet walk, Would absolutely return.

Such a delightful cozy restaurant, takes some effort to find but so worth it. We were lucky to reserve a table on weekend with the help of our host. The ambience is classy and staff gave great recommendations. Very fresh seafood, delicious and intricate pastas and don’t miss the desserts. Even the house Pinot Grigio is decent and reasonable. We thoroughly enjoyed a delicious first meal in Venice and will recommend to try! Do reserve ahead.

After being recommended Osteria L’orto dei Mori by a local lady, we had the most incredible evening meal there. Everyone at the table loved every part of our evening. The restaurant is beautiful for a start, the table next to us was a family celebrating a birthday so the whole room was a lovely atmosphere. The menu was so good we all struggled to decide. I started with the “Busara Sauce” grey prawn pasta - everyone agreed this was the nicest pasta they had ever had. I finally managed to find the Italian pasta I was after. The sauce was sensational and i’m thinking about it frequently days later. Following this i had the Tuna Steak, another dish that did not disappoint. This was cooked perfectly and the flavours were beautiful. Other dishes at the table included lamb chops and’ saor’ di rombo e zucchini and a cheese selection with not a single complaint. We even got a piece of the wonderful birthday cake from the party there. A special mention to the team for being so helpful, welcoming and providing such a wonderful experience. My first stop next time i am in Venice.

For our last night in Venice we decided to splurge! We had an incredible meal in this upscale eatery. Every element of the experience was carefully managed. The wait staff were impeccable and made us all feel especially well taken care of. Each and every course was beautiful and so flavorful. The pasta melted in your mouth and the desserts, especially the tiramisu, were the best we had on our entire trip. Also for anyone with any food allergies or special diets, each and every item on the menu was easily referenced and categorized so you could make safe choices. It was a special meal!

Google
Excellent food. I was blown away by the food, quality presentation and overall taste. Service by waitress excellent. Not to be desired was the man seating customers. As we walked in he was sitting at a table in the dining room (with other customers eating) on his phone. Very unprofessional for a owner, employee, manager or waiter. Take your phone to the back and watch it there. Also, the wine glass for my red wine was for Chardonnay and not a red wine glass. Otherwise very good. If the owner sees this review I would have given a 5 stars had it not been for the initial contact.

Google
Amazing on every metric. Clearly a fun charming neighborhood spot while being an exemplary gourmet dinner. It was so fun to see the owner engage with friends and regulars and also make our visit so special.

Google
Absolutely amazing food with an authentic Italian vibe! The staff are incredibly friendly and they take the time to explain everything, making it fun to choose the perfect pasta! I can't recommend this place enough—it's a must-visit!

Yelp
The food was pretty decent but it's disappointing that they charge a 10% service fee when most places charge 2-2.50 euro cover charge per person. The pasta tasted fine. The service was spotty at best but I think if you're willing to look around, you'll find better.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY. They promote being able to accommodate allergies right on their menu but we learned the hard way that it is not true. My husband and I had dinner here last night and were assured that his gluten allergy (he has Celiac) could be accommodated. We have been away in Italy on vacation for over a week now, eating out multiple times with no problem. Soon after returning from dinner at Osteria l'Orto dei Mori he had a severe gluten reaction. We had eaten small GF snacks we had brought from home throughout the afternoon so we are sure it was the food here. They will sound confident about their skills but if you have a serious allergy please do not be fooled. We went back the next day to talk to the staff and they rude and unkind. The staff denied any possibility of gluten contamination despite the fact that they do also serve breaded/gluten-containing items their menu. We trusted them because they assured us they were careful with the preparation but please don't do the same if you have Celiac too. We learned our lesson. They were all very rude, defensive and were not understanding at all. It was a terrible interaction and not how you treat customers. We were shocked at the attitude. It was the worst restaurant experience we had during our 10 day trip to Italy and unfortunately soured our honeymoon. I would never return!!!

Yelp
Don't be fooled: This restaurant is absolutely terrible. The food was overpriced and mediocre, and I actually got sick from it, experiencing the worst stomach cramps I've had in my life. I have a gluten allergy (Celiac disease), and they made every promise that my food would be safe, but that obviously didn't happen. Unfortunately, it gets worse than just me having an allergic reaction. I returned to the restaurant the next day to explain my situation, and they were incredibly rude to me and my wife. They kept saying I must have gotten sick from a different restaurant, which is actually impossible. They told me no customer had ever gotten sick from their restaurant (yeah right!), even though only a couple of the dishes are gluten free - most of the menu was off limits for me anyway! The restaurant put me on the phone with the manager, who served us dinner the night before, and he was super defensive and rude, telling me I would not get my money back and that I should call the police instead. One of the owners approached me aggressively and told me I shouldn't travel outside the country if I could get sick - so rude! I kept calm and explained that while the staff had the best intentions, the restaurant has a small kitchen, and nothing is impossible, including cross contamination. But they were so offended by the idea that I got sick from them - which is a 100% certainty, I hadn't eaten elsewhere for hours and I know what a gluten reaction feels like - that they basically told me to get lost, or call the police. (Why would I call the police for getting sick at a restaurant?) I would NOT recommend this place to anyone, but especially if you're traveling with someone that has an allergy. They will tell you anything you want to hear - that they can accommodate dishes for you, that they'll use separate pans and prep areas, and that no one has ever gotten sick there - but you know better. I wouldn't wish this sick feeling on anyone, but it was made 100% worse by the attitude of the staff in that restaurant. This is not how you treat customers, especially if they get sick. Avoid at all costs.

Yelp
3.5 stars. Adorable little restaurant with great service. We were lucky to get the last seats despite no reservation. It's clearly one of those nice special occasion restaurants that while good, are too expensive to be frequented all the time by locals. When we went on Monday night, there was a big Italian family (seemed like locals) and the chef went by and talked to them quite a bit (didnt really do that with the rest of us). On the other hand, the two tables to our right and one to our left were filled with American tourists. We ordered the squid ink pasta followed by the sea bass in a bag. The pasta was great. It was completely pitch black and the serving size was huge. We ordered one dish to share, and they actually pre-split the dish onto two dishes. When we got our serving, I was certain they had made a mistake and had given is two instead of one order. When I flagged the waiter down to clear up the "mistake", she told us all that food was actually one serving! I thought the squid pieces and squid ink was amazing. The fish main i found a bit underwhelming. The waitress told us it was specially cooked for 20 minutes in the bag (can't remember the specific details, but it involved some special prep), Unfortunately, it wasn't very flavorful and the pieces were few and small. My mother commented that it seemed like Chinese steamed fish and couldn't understand what was so special about the dish. We finished up with the tiramisu, which was different from the standard versions I've tried in the past. I think it was a bit too dairy/cream heavy for me (given my lactose intolerance). The restaurant was quite pricey, and while the pasta was definitely worth the price (14 euros) I'm not sure if the quality of the main justified the steep prices. But it's really cute, and perfect for an intimate romantic evening.

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding. By far the most complete (and flavorful) meal we've had on this trip. The ambiance, it's off the tourist track and an intimate dining environment, and range of food stuffs, the menu is more than Venetian focused seafood, are fantastic. We had a marvelous set of servers - including the head chef himself, and never felt lost or disoriented around the menu. The wine list was perfect - mixing regional options from around Italy to provide a perfect range of complimentary wine for any meal selection. We had a terrific Brunello that got better and better as the meal went on. As for the plates - leeks were the feature of the evening. However, I had the absolute best veal of my life and my wife an awesome sous vide fish and vegetable dish. We finished with a delightful pear and ricotta gelato that seemed to enhance the flavors of every other dish we had over the evening. Finally, the chef completed our wonderful meal with complimentary glasses (please note that was 2 each for a total of 4 glasses) of limoncello. The evening and the meal was, in many ways, a real highlight of this trip and a marvelous way to spend two plus relaxing hours.

Yelp
The server spilled wine all over my daughter. I know things happen, but it's at these times when you see the true side of a person/service/restaurant. The server only offered emergency wine spray but wasn't apologetic at all despite my daughter was in tears getting her favorite clothes getting spoiled. We stopped eating for 15 min trying to get the situation sorted out while the server was looking at us in corner of his eyes sipping wine with fellow servers chatting away. It was our only night in Venice and had been looking forward for a nice meal out but was all ruined by the incident. Again I can accept things happen and had the server and other staff been more compassionate and caring, it would've been a lot better. Food was ok, not surprising by any means but not bad either. Portions were small but I guess that's not too uncommon around here.

Yelp
The owner was very accommodating! We arrived after 9:45 in the evening and he served us a full course meal! Very incredible food! Quiet location ask for Micael and Lorenzo who are the co-owners of this establishment! Love the décor!

Yelp
Exquisite!!! I've been in Italy (the Amalfi Coast and Capri) for three weeks and this is some of the best food I've had (!). Everything was absolutely fantastic. I had the sea bass with vegetables and a mixed/rocket salad. Unbelievable.

Yelp
The three staff members working seemed completely uninterested in us. They were very interested in each other however. Our waitress had the personality of a mannequin; no smile, no vocal tone that sounded happy. It is the hospitality business, isn't it? I would have rather served myself. The food was fine though.

Yelp
Food was great. The restaurant is a bit squeezed but he decor is very cute. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Great food and service. Accept Amex. Barn pasta was nest I have ever had. Lamb was excellent. Will go back for sure.

Yelp
It's a nice and cosy restaurant, with a very cool statue on the entrance. The quality of the food is in general good, but the portions are very small for osteria's standards. Prices are already elevated, but you might accept them. However, big disappointment, the final bill is increased of a commission of 10%. TEN PERCENT! It's huge, and on this prices it's way too much.

Yelp
Canarregio, quiet, romantic, good food and wine Cozy little place. We dined inside as the outdoor area is unfortunately marred by a tacky quayside cafe right in front of it. Ambience indoors is lovely. Very good seafood and Mrs. S found the wine card intriguing (always a good sign). The lamb chops were excellent. Make sure to reserve. Would gladly come again.

Yelp
If you are visiting Venice STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Very rude staff, waiter was very upset that we decided to only have one quick drink outside (mind you the place was empty) and that we did not get any food. He proceeded to tell us that "they are a restaurant and not a bar" a few times and basically rushed us to finish our one drink. If he would have actually been polite about it to begin with we would have definately been coming back for dinner as we are staying about 5 minutes away. Customer service here is very poor, you are better off spending your money elsewhere. For lack of a better term, the staff are just pompous assholes who act as if they are doing you a favor. Why would you spend your money here when there are a TON of great places around that will actually make you feel like they want your business and have great food. So to summarize...don't do it!!!

Carolina L.

Yelp
Worst place I've eaten in Venice. Ridiculously rude staff who will treat you like you are stupid, and as though they are doing you a favor, rather than their job. If they make a mistake, which they did during our dinner, don't you dare questioning them, as they will respond loudly making darn sure all the restaurant hears about it. Then be prepared to pay a couver charge just for sitting down, which when we asked about it, the waiter proudly explained it was for the napkins, plates, and the fresh food - mind you, we had never eaten anything but the freshest foods in Venice, and several cities in Italy, for that matter, and this was the ONLY time we were charged for this. Final bill for a mediocre couple of appetizers and glasses of wine, and a water, 53 Euros. But what was really expensive was dealing with the shitty service. Never going back!

Yelp
A fantastic experience. People talk about the restaurant being small but at the moment, in July, they have numerous tables set up in the piazza so space was not an issue. We had the beef carpaccio, caprese salad, taglionini with tuna and olives, crepe purses with scallops and peas and the lamb chops. Everything was wonderful. Maybe everything in Venice is delicious just because you're in Venice.

Scott W.

Yelp
Best food I had in Venice! I ordered the pasta with pesto and scallops and it was fantastic. The cod was also excellent. The house red wine was a delicious Cabernet. The service was great and we were given limoncello at the end of our meal. Great spot away from the crowded touristy parts of the city.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
We were in Venice for 8 days. This place was conveniently 100 yards from where we were staying. Food was very good. Frequented by locals we discovered and the service unlike our other European experiences, wonderful ! How lucky was that?
google avatar

Mark J.

Yelp
So far, the food is pretty good, but the staff is horrible. They make you feel like they're going out of their way to serve you. For lack of a more refined term, they're a bunch of assholes. I wouldn't come here again if you paid me.

Yelp
Came here on our first night in Venice after a recommendation from a local Venetian(states that the restaurant itself takes normal dishes and puts their own unique twist on them)-- the place itself is very small and it is recommended that you make a reservation(either the 7pm or 9pm seating). As it was the first night of our honeymoon, I appreciated the small size of the restaurant, as with the candlelight/cozy space it made for a romantic atmosphere. All of the staff were very friendly- we started with the beef carpaccio which was delicious and paired well with the arugula. We also started with the caprese-buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes and an avocado sauce- the mozzarella was so fresh, it was amazing and paired very well with the avocado sauce(I've personally never paired mozzarella with avocado and definitely plan to in the future as it created a very unique flavor.) I had the veal tagliatelle- the pasta was so fresh and was quite good- not the best I've ever had, but good enough. My husband went with the veal stuffed with ricotta and wrapped with bacon- it also was good, nothing out-of-this world but moist and flavorful. For dessert- we had the tiramisu- which was the standout of the night- absolutely delicious and the dark chocolate cake infused with cherries which was so moist and flavorful. I would go there just for their homemade desserts because they were heavenly!!!

Yelp
The staff and the food were great, the interior was pretty tight, felt like I was eating at someone else table. I had the gnocchi for my main dish, which was excellent. All the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled good. I don't think you can go wrong here, just be prepared to sit close to someone and get a RSVP.

Yelp
This intimate trendy restaurant is located in the middle of the Cannaregio section of the city, away from the throngs of tourists. We chose it from a travel book, but were happy to hear the hotel concierge knew of it and also recommended it. We made a reservation for two people the day prior. When we arrived at our assigned reservation time, the staff was sitting to eat before the evening rush. They had us come in and wait 15 minutes, but then were attentive and our drinks/food arrived in a typical amount of time. The first courses were perfectly cooked pasta with delicious sauce. Neither of us particularly enjoyed our second course (one steamed whitefish, which arrived in a plastic steam bag, and one inadequately seasoned 'Asian themed' tuna dish). There were many other American tourists in the restaurant, some of whom were very obnoxious and detracted from the joy of being in another country for a while.

Yelp
Fantastic little restaurant. Yes, there are so many in Venice but go to this one to get away from the busy-ness of Venice. The neighborhood is quaint, convenient and happening with young professionals. Service better than others during our stay, fresh food, authentic. We highly recommend osteriaortodeimori(.com) in Cannaregio neighborhood.

Yelp
Great little restaurant in a less touristy area of Venice. It takes about 30 covers so you have to eat at 7.00pm and give the table back for 9.00pm - but that's no problem. Good selection of starters, primi and secondi all of which are super fresh and very we'll put together by the young couple that own the place. It's cute, it's intimate, it's authentic, the food is top notch.

Yelp
Everything about this place was amazing. The staff, the atmosphere, the wine and the food were all delectable. Try the fennel salad starter. The gnocchi zucchini starter, and the Branzino for main. And don't forget the homemade desserts and an espresso from there 10,000 US dollar machine. Worth the price worth everything go go go

Yelp
This place is a little gem in one of my favorite areas of Venice. Quiet, away from the hordes of tourists, this Osteria provides dressed-up takes on classics. Not quite weird enough to be modern, but just perfectly in the middle of tradition and playfulness. The most beautiful thing on the menu, in my opinion, is the veal. It's not just veal, my friends. It's ricotta, wrapped in veal, wrapped in lardo aka bacon fat. This dish is so decadent, so succulent and wonderful that you will NOT want to share. And even though it sounds totally artery clogging, it's done in an almost delicate, sophisticated way that doesn't leave you stuffed and bloated. Definitely celebration food! Great ambience, wonderful food in a town with questionable food. A+ in my book.

Yelp
After leaving Rome, we had some pretty high expectations food-wise. Everything we ate in Rome was glorious, some of the best food I have ever had in my life. How can you top that?! Well, let me let you in on a secret... all of Italy has some of the best food you will ever have. Want to eat some more good food? Just go somewhere else in Italy! And that folks, is exactly what we did. We travelled on to Venice and had an amazing dinner at this fine establishment. I will say that the restaurant is pretty small and reservations are critical! It was recommended to us by our hotel and they got it right! We went for dinner and just had a wonderful time! This was the first time we were eating fresh pasta in Italy, and it was amazing! Dare I say it, better than Bar La Grassa?! Actually, I do dare. Definitely better than Bar La Grassa. I had some delicious seafood pasta with shrimp and Bob had some pappardelle with lamb? The service was wonderful, food/wine amazing and ambiance very romantic and cozy. Overall, one of the best restaurants we ate at throughout all our travels in Italy!

Steve H.

Yelp
Food was a four star, but the environment was not very relaxing. I know it's a business, but other spots had equally good food, but a better environment. TryAl Cantinon Osteria, close to the casino.

Yelp
After visiting the impressive church Madonna dell'Orto and Tinoretto's house near Campo dei Mori you should avoid a visit in the Osteria L'Orto dei Mori. We sat quite a while outside watching the waiter and the chef ignoring us. When he finally arrived at the table his first and only word was: "Lunch!". I have to confess my Italian is not very good but I am rather sure that wasn't an address of welcome. It was about 2.30 p.m. and I explained, that we don't want to have lunch at this time of day but that we would like to have something to drink. This was fine in several restaurants in different parts of Venice during the last three days but not in the Osteria L'Orto dei Mori. The chef barked at us, that this is a restaurant and if we only want to drink we must move somewhere else because here all the guests are eating. Obviously, this applied only for us, because at the next table a man was reading a newspaper and thinking only mineral water. We didn't make the effort to find out if the chef had something against women, tourists or Austrians. We looked for another restaurant, something I recommend to anyone who intends to visit the Osteria L'Orto dei Mori.
