Osteria Macchiavello

My husband and I were here with our 20 month toddler the other day and it was absolutely incredible. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. The weather was awful out and the season hasn’t started yet so was pretty quiet, but I’ll bet when it’s busy the atmosphere would also be top notch. 100% recommend. 😀

After checking several restaurants, opted for this one as they advertise their paella… Ordered a starter (monkfish) and paella for two only to be told they don’t do it at lunchtime, only evening - this should be clearly stated, totally misleading. Opted for mixed antipasti (of the sea) - following the waitress recommendation - fried calamari and prawns, roasted potatoes with rosemary and mixed salad. Starter looked good but the only tasty bit was the octopus with potato purée… Calamari and prawns were over cooked and rubbery, potatoes were soggy (felt like microwaved with clingfilm on top!) and there even was a mouldy tomato in the salad! Really gutted as we have had some incredible food in Sardegna. Was expecting more from a seaside restaurant, Alghero being famous for its seafood and fish, it’s a major let down. Don’t waste your time nor money, average place.

Everything was horrible except the view. Service ignored us for 30 minutes and did not give us the menu. We did not receive bread. Main course was bad and comparable to a beach bar. Prices were too high and the servicio fee a joke. Even the spritz tasted bad. I would recommend having a drink at the pier but not eating there as it is a typical tourist scam. The bad google reviews don‘t lie.

The most beautiful view but the most terrible service and dishes. We took fried calamari and fishes (little fish and sword fish) and everything was without taste. Even the potatoes had no taste and were like sponge. Not recommended because there are better places mostly outside the castle.

The view over the sea is great and the food was really good. The service was a bit slow but the staff was very polite. Overall I really enjoyed the experience and I would come back to try some other dishes.

I had lunch with my girlfriend and we took the starter seafood mix which was described on the menu: minimum 2 persons 18 euros for portion and consisted of some octopus, fried eel with tomato and chili sauce, salmon, spatula fish and mushrooms and Baccala.. the taste was OK and a pretty good size but the problem was when we got the bill it turned up 36 euros and sincerely it wasn't clear on the menu because you can only get it for 2 people but the price wrote on menu was 18. Then my partner took ravioli filled with ricotta and a tomato and pancetta sauce, I took the fregula with seafood fregula both were good. We found another surprise on the bill which was the service which was a 10 % charge out of our bill so in the end we were disappointed for the price and we felt a bit scammed. Overall lunch was just ok.

A completely incompetent Service!! The view is nice and burato was good but everything that was volgte was just worth a star. The service is neither motivated nor competent. The lamb tasted like it was very old and the sea bass was served with two thin slices of potatoes and invisible vegetables which should be part of it. Unfortunately, the waitress couldn't read the menu, which is why she didn't understand why I wanted vegetables to go with my tiny little bass. I recommend going into the city because you get ripped off further up front. You have a view of the sea, but that’s all.

beautiful place with very good food and friendly service. I tried traditional sardinian pasta "Fregola" with shrimps and little crabs and it was one of the most tasty food I have ever eaten. Also the atmosphere was very nice (sitting outside, hearing the sounds of the sea) and waiters very helpful. The prices were a bit higher, but it was definitely worth it.
