Osteria Pantagruel

An authentic Italian osteria in the heart of Kyiv, with a stunning view of the Golden Gates. No tourist-trap mozzarella bar or Instagram bait here—just proper, soulful Italian cooking. You’ll find some of the usual suspects—carpaccio, bruschetta—alongside long-time favorites like tagliatelle with bone marrow and truffle or baby squid stuffed with shrimp, a hit for over 15 years. Specials change often, so regulars rarely eat the same thing twice. The wine cellar? A real trove, built over 30 years. Expect bottles you won’t see in local shops—aged Barolo, Chianti, and gems from less obvious regions and producers. There’s a sommelier on the floor—ask, and you’ll drink well without overpaying. This is Italian food the way it should be: authentic, deliberate, and hard to forget.

Facing the Golden Gate, the entrance of the restaurant opens into a vestibule, which splits into two dining areas, each featuring its own bar.  This unique layout contributes to an intriguing dining experience.  I visited the restaurant twice—once for lunch and once for dinner—and found it pleasantly uncrowded both times.  Normally, I enjoy a quiet meal, but the combination of dim lighting and dark wooden furniture, reminiscent of an old English pub, cast a somewhat somber mood.  Nevertheless, the service and food were good.

Everything is the best quality. Pantagruel is the place to enjoy food, atmosphere and service.

Has the wrong time table displayed on google. A very rude waiter had this reaction, while ignoring me, when telling him: 🤷‍♂️ This is very disappointing after walking more than 20 minutes to the place, wanting to eat there.

Quick service, meals taste very good and look appetizing. Extensive Italian wine menu. Worth the a bit higher than average price.

a now historic restaurant in Kiev that I used to frequent when I lived in those parts, for work, and that I found and tried again with pleasure in the summer of 2020. high quality cuisine and dishes that respect ancient traditions of some Italian regions. a place that I have in my heart and that I hope to be able to find again as soon as these bad times end
