Osteria Pico was a great choice. We ordered a variety of traditional dishes and liked them all. The freshness and flavours of the food were mouthwatering. Enjoying a nice dinner inside an old cave surrounded by nice paintings and good people was exactly what we were looking for. The service was great. We had Julia take care of us. Her kind smile hasn't left her face for a minute and she was extremely helpful. Thank you Osteria Pico

Good food, especially fried codfish. Our elegant server move gracefully between tables and deliver dishes precisely. What a crisp movements.

went on 20 December (friday) around 7.30pm the food was good. there are a lot of pasta shapes. the pasta dishes were good. the meat stew was a bit too salty. our server was really accommodating, she offered to sprinkle some pistachios on top of our dark chocolate soufflé when we were disappointed that they had run out of pistachio-flavoured soufflé and gave us another round of bread when we requested for it.

Good atmosphere and tasty food. The local wine 🍷 was also great. Different kind of desserts 🍨

The food is good, but not enough explanations in the menu regarding the ingredients and the dish description. Quite expensive but a very nice atmosphere inside (the restaurant is into a cave).

I'm sorry - but like many highly rated restaurants in Matera, this one does not live up to the rating and has been catering too long for foreign tourist palates. It was the only pasta I ate in 1 month in Italy that was not al dente. And it lacked seasoning. The other main was an acceptable but basic pork and crispy peppers dish. Only the zucchini and apple salad were good quality. The service was adequate. The cave atmosphere probably the best part of the experience.

Nice local food and traditional restaurant with cheap price and nice atmosphere typical of this part of the city. We tried different local dishes and really enjoyed them. The prices are very reasonable and they also have a good house's wine.

Beautiful place in the sassi. And one of the best restaurants in Italy. I love coniglio and have ordered it all over Italy but this was by far the best ever. Il migliore! And the Ferricello with pesto di pistachio, caciocavallo and porcini is unique and incredible. Cruschi … a very generous portion and perfectly delicious. Same for the Prosecco and the Primitivo. Yummy chocolate cake too. Can’t recommend this place highly enough. Of the half a dozen places we have eaten in Matera, this one is far above every other.

Yelp
We had an absolutely delicious lunch at this restaurant. It was our first day in Matera and it was a perfect first impression. We started off with the cheese appetizer which was a good way to sample multiple local cheeses. We then had the capocollo with mushrooms and pepperoni cruschi as well as the lamb entree. Both were delicious but the capocollo was particularly good. We also ordered a zucchini and apple salad which sounds like an odd combination but it worked! The salad had both red and green apples and some mint which made for a very well balanced and refreshing dish. Although we initially did not intend on having dessert we caved when our server mentioned the ricotta mouse with amarena, it was so good and we were so happy we indulged. The servers were very attentive and helpful in providing great recommendations for our meal.

Yelp
Nice space and really great staff along with hearty portions . I'd recommend splitting everything in two. Get two or three dishes and maybe dessert. The fava soup w chicory was good,, pastas too.
