Google
Great location while walking uphill in Lugano for a very tasty and cozy lunch with friends having a great wine list of 2,500 bottles to choose from! I recomand tartare!

They ensure you either leave hungry and disappointed or poor and disappointed...or in our case, both. I believe a chef designed the menu. I believe a chef designed the plating of the food. But I also believe an accountant controls the amount of ingredients in your meal. You get none of the flavors described in detail from the menu. I had the connoli veal dish. It was some sort of soggy dough around an unidentifiable, tasteless dry brown mush. It had a tasteless brown sauce on top and a dotting of different color sauces on the plate. For 28 chf, you get 3 of these logs. My wife got the shrimp risotto with courgette flowers. We believe there was 1 small shrimp sliced up on her plate and no identifiable flowers. The risotto had no flavor. It was just plain. We were thankful for the pepper and salt on the table. Honestly, this place is embarrassing. The waiter knows it and doesn't really ask you if you enjoyed anything. He just wants to sell you water, wine and dessert. When we asked a couple questions about wine, he brought over a 100 page book of their wines. It's an impossible book. You have no need for this and no room on your table. Anyway, service was bad. Price was high. Food lacked flavor. Portion was small and overly designed. Go elsewhere.

I heard a lot about Osteria Trani so it was a must go for me , actually i loved it , the food amazing… the tiramisu not bad but was a bit to juicy in coffee, and the upper part that seems as a biscuit cookie it was quite strong i mean hard to chew it . But my pasta , the service, the atmosphere was 10/10 .

An unexpected pearl on the stairs of Lugano. The ravioli with veal and red wine sauce is the best pasta dish I have ever had (Wow!). The gnocchi dish was also perfectly executed. It was one of the first restaurants we saw on our way to downtown Lugano. First we went further but returned and did not know what to expect. Waiter was friendly and perfectly charismatic. The food was high class! Thank you Trani!

Really nice food with attentive service and romantic ambience. We dined a couple of times here and were never disappointed. I love the starters and the presentation and the risotto with truffle (which was a daily special) is delicious!

Fantastic food, beautiful location on the steps. Found a great wine in the giant wine list. Tartare was superb. Even appreciated the jibe that the pound was performing badly against the Swiss france, probably the wine helped...

No appearance in the NYTimes will mask the poor service one can expect here. The level of disdain and lack of any respect towards non-Italian speakers is very evident - other than being given a bottle of water, expect to sit without any service, while the staff walks by ignoring you while you wonder if anyone will bother giving you a menu. The place is beautiful inside… too bad the staff makes it a poor choice for a meal.

So there are certain cases when you must NOT visit this restaurant. It is not all you can eat and if you get bothered by people passing by then sorry. BUT if you want something different (and you are familiar with the term fine dining, unlike the previous reviewer to whom I recommend the Burger King, for 17 CHF there is super size whopper menu with 0.7 vanilla shake) this is really a pearl. The service speed could be improved but the red tuna fish we had was just amazing. Their special "struddle" (warning! it is COLD) was also something you can't eat anywhere and can't find every day... And this is not even just a pearl in the pasta/pizza forest, I think it deserves respect for what it is!

Yelp
Buonissimo! This intimate restaurant serves delicious healthy food, highly recommend. They also have a very extensive wine menu.

Yelp
Good but not as good as I was hoping for based on the other reviews. I had the gnocchi which was good but nothing to write home about. The thing I really liked was the started. I had the salmon and avocado tartar. Yum! The place itself was setup nicely. Due to the rounded ceiling it kept sounding like the people across the room were either next to me or behind me. I did not mind, though tit was kinda cool. No English menus, just Italian. Probably would not go again. Lots of other places to try.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in Switzerland. When you enter you feel like you have walked into someones home and are having a meal with them in their kitchen. This restaurant is small and homey, and the owner on the business cards is most likely going to be serving you at some point during your meal. You definitely have to make a reservation for this restaurant in advance. I have been here several times when visiting Lugano and I have never been disappointed. The food has always been great. It is not a cheap place, it is a bit pricey, but it is worth every penny. Our favorite starter is the warm octopus salad or Caprese salad (tomato w/ buffalo mozzarella). The pasta here is always good, and the trio pasta plate is a nice way to sample some different options. They have a fantastic flight of italian/ticino wines that we always try. You get to taste 6 different wines for a total of 3 dl, three whites and three red, for 22 CHF. Also, the best dessert is the chocolate tarte hands down. It is a bite of heaven. It's probably a good thing for my pocket book and weight that I don't live nearby! :)
