As tourists from outside Norway, me and my partner wanted to experience a European club, particularly a club that played electronic/techno music, not just pop music. When we in Bergen on a weekend in September, we learned that a DJ who fit the kind of music we were looking for was playing at Østre, her name is Lolsnake. The concert started late, around midnight if I recall correctly. When we arrived at the club at the time of opening, we were unsure about going in because it wasn’t particularly busy, at least not yet. We decided to go in anyway. The interior aesthetic of the club was well thought out: the lights, decorations, and layout all contributed to a pleasing underground club vibe. On the main floor, there is a bar, coat check, and sitting areas. We could hear the music from the main dance hall through the walls, but we couldn’t tell which direction it was coming from (the sound came from everywhere lol). We ended up following other people up stairs that spiraled to the second floor, turned down a hallway, and emptied onto another bar and the main dance hall (it was quite fun winding our way through the building to find the main dance hall). We were entranced by the main dance hall. The music, aesthetic (lighting, decorations, etc), and clubbing culture were exactly what we were looking for. Soon, the club started to fill in with other people, it was just the right size of attendance to make it feel packed but not overcrowded. We were there for over 2 hours dancing hard into the night. It was an incredibly memorable experience that became a major highlight for our trip! I would love to come back here again! As a general reminder, I highly recommend that anyone who goes clubbing anywhere brings earplugs to protect your hearing.
