Holidays at Ostria
We were expecting a truly great holiday, with well-thought-out details, but we were a bit disappointed. I’m honestly shocked that all the reviews are so positive – that’s actually the reason why we decided to pay such a price (and the price is definitely not low).
Starting with the main downside: the hotel is geared almost entirely towards French tourists. At some point we were wondering whether we were in Greece or in France. I understand that most guests can come from one country, but this was simply too much. The evening shows and animations were conducted mainly in French instead of English, which is the basic language for the majority of countries. I think this is a serious drawback.
Another minus – the food. Reviews were full of praise about variety and quality, but in reality it was literally the same every day for 7 days. For a 5-star hotel, that’s rather strange. The only plus was the food served by the pool, although sometimes there was nothing left if you came at the wrong time.
Another issue is the poor organization of evening entertainment. You built a large hotel, you invite many tourists, and then you try to host events for so many people in such a tiny space by the pool or on the beach. Instead of keeping the beach restaurants as paid dining venues, it would have been much better to use that space for events. Because when there was a beach party, with just a handful of chairs and a dancefloor for 3 people, where were the rest supposed to go? Back to their rooms. In my opinion, most of the events were poorly managed and lacked creativity. A lot more could have been done, but unfortunately it didn’t work out.
Although dancing crew is amazing!!
I’m not a picky person, but when paying this much, I expected a bit more from such a hotel. Another major downside is that the hotel staff do nothing about people rushing out at 6 AM to reserve sunbeds with towels. I would expect the staff to remove those towels instead of allowing this behavior.
As for the room and cleanliness – the room was quite small, but a plus for having air conditioning. When it comes to cleaning, I thought the staff would at least mop the floor, which was dirty with sand and shoe marks that spread around the room. We had a leaking pipe under the sink and no hot water for quite a while. A plus though – once reported, the issue was fixed quickly.
It is a beautiful hotel, no doubt about that, but we expected more, and I’m very surprised at the abundance of only positive reviews – which feels quite suspicious after having stayed there.
