"Have the restaurant call Alo Taxi to take you north through the mountains to the lower part of Ostrog Monastery, a Serbian Orthodox Church built within a cliff in 1665. The shrine stands 900 meters above ground in Ostroška Greda, and to get to the top, you’ll have to hike 45 minutes — you’ll see plenty of religious pilgrims do it barefoot, so you should have no problem in hiking shoes and your backpack. The walk will be worth it: It’s one of the most stunning sites of worship, with dozens of religious mosaics and sweeping views of the lush Zeta valley below. "

This is incredible and breathtaking place. While you drive up to the rocks you do t see monastery at all - you will see it as you arrive your destination. This place is so different and sacred and you feel like Holy Ghost is near you, at least I felt very special and unique there don’t know why. This place has something it is magical

If you are here as a pilgrim, I can see that it will give you a whole different experience than if you are here only for tourism. The road between lower and upper monastery (the one carved into the mountain) is closed for us mortals. It is only for officials and VIP - however, some motorcycles can go up and also buses. The stairs from parking to the upper monastery are steep and can be challenging, especially in 40+ degree centigrade. You have to dress appropriately to get in the monastery area, they provide cover for those who have shorts on. But ladies don't have to cover their head. It is not allowed to take pictures in the monastery itself, but I guess you can take them when you reach the top as everyone is doing it. There is a prayer chamber when you go to the end of the path from the entrance. If you are not pilgrim, I suggest you skip this and go to the first door to the left where they have a gift shop instead. There are stairs to the top from here. The prayer chamber is where the saint body is, and people stand in line to pray to him. There is also a priest inside that will bless you. We have zero idea about this, and I have to pretend to pray to show respect. But, as I said, skip this and give way to the pilgrim to do their thing instead if you are only visiting for tourism.

Definitely more of a pilgrimage site than a tourist site however we entered as tourists nonetheless, felt a little awkward while everyone prayed and we didn't however supported the church with some money as entry was free anywa, cool experience. Nice gift shop with reasonable prices too. At moments there was some younger lads reciting what I presume was biblical scripture which was nice to hear. Parking was a free and a 5-10 min walk from the monastery. Road was windy but okay we was there around 8:00-9:00 am and there was a good amount of tourists there already especially for that small of area. Little line to get in but can't complain with the nice views .

Ostrog-Orthodox Monastery was our last tour point during this long day tour. It was interesting, especial the way you have to take to reach this place. You need to cover your knees and women also head hair, so they give the cloth to cover at the netance. Amazing view from the Monastery, and the Monastery itself with old cell and the grenade in the wall. Fortunately, there was not many people so we were lucky to go up and down the stairs. From the top you can take great pictures of the area, it’s very beautiful indeed. The WC is outside out the Monastery and it’s clean and free.

A special place, filled with deep spiritual meaning. We truly enjoyed the location and the surrounding landscape – even though, unfortunately, we couldn’t capture it in photos due to the thick fog. As we climbed, the view was hidden, but we could fully feel the peace and energy of this sacred place. An experience worth living, no matter the weather!

Ostrog Monastery is one of the most unique and awe-inspiring places I’ve ever visited. Built into a sheer cliff face, it looks almost unreal — like something out of a movie. The road leading to it is narrow and winding, adding to the sense of adventure. Once you arrive, you’re met with stunning views over the valley and a peaceful, almost magical atmosphere. The monastery is a place of deep spiritual significance, but even if you’re not religious, you’ll feel the powerful energy here. It’s calm, quiet, and full of history. Definitely a must-visit while in Montenegro — a place that touches both the heart and the soul.

An amazing place, full of peace and spiritual atmosphere. Getting to the monastery isn’t the easiest journey, but it is accessible by car. Drivers should be cautious – the road is narrow in places, with sharp curves and occasional uneven or damaged sections. The drive offers stunning views, and once you reach the large parking area, there’s still a 15-minute walk ahead. The path leads through a forest, uphill, and then up several dozen steps. Caution: the stairs can be slippery – wear proper shoes or consider going barefoot. For visitors with limited mobility or families with children in a stroller or wheelchair, it's possible to drive all the way up – just follow the signs. The monastery itself is magical. There's a deep sense of tranquility here – it’s truly a special place. Absolutely worth visiting, and not to be missed when exploring Montenegro.

This place is incredible. We parked in a free parking lot near the lower monastery and made our way to the monastery via the staircase (approx. 400 steps) used by pilgrims. The monastery is nestled into the mountain, a true architectural feat. Its white contrasts with the colors of the mountain, giving it an absolutely remarkable appearance. Proper attire is required to enter the monastery, and it is forbidden to photograph the interior. The monastery also contains the relics of St. Basil, which are available for meditation.
