Profiling Chef Jackie Carnesi of Brooklyn’s Nura

"Nura is the second project from Scott Hawley and Michelle Lobo-Hawley, the husband-and-wife team behind Otis, which is known both for its food (vaguely Mediterranean) and its vibe (very cool)." - Rachel Sugar

Get ready to climb some stairs! Otis has the service contract on the elevator in the condo building where I live. After every time they make a service/maintenance call, something goes wrong: the elevator stops at the wrong floor, creeps between floors, aligns improperly when it stops, etc. Our condo board then gave Otis the contract to install our new elevator. That was well over a year ago! They have repeatedly pushed back their start date, first a few months at a time, then a month at a time, then a week at a time, then a day at a time … They have blown by every single deadline they have set for themselves, usually with no heads up, no excuse and no way to contact them. Theoretically, they will be starting again today. So far, the only sign of workman has been two scruffy kids who sat in a pickup truck in our parking lot for two days with their feet up on the dashboard. Guess who was paying them? Otis says the installation will take three to five months! That timeline is outrageous enough, but it is now May, and I will be astonished if they have completed the installation by the end of the year. If they ever do complete it, I will not be in any hurry to try it out. I’ll take the stairs, thanks. You would be better off hiring your lawn-care contractor to install your elevator. At least they might bother to show up. P.S.: They did not begin work again today, although they said all day that they would be here within a couple of hours. So now they are delaying hour by hour! Today is Thursday, and, guess what? It turns out they don’t work on Fridays.

Started scheduling in March for an inspection due in April, after multiple scheduled dates missed by OTIS, including no-call/no-shows, the inspection was finally completed...in the middle of July by which time county violations had been issued. OTIS was difficult to reach and communicate with during the process and was also unable to accommodate a fast reschedule after missing several planned visits.

We had a problem with our elevator this morning. I called Otis and they said that the technician will be there in about 4 hours. He arrived earlier than planned. Later in the evening the Elevator stopped again. Jeremy was back here within 15 minutes! Excellent because i had to of my associates stuck on it. He returned and did another complete diagnostics on the Elevator. Jeremy was very professional. Otis keep up the good work.

This is the second time within about a year that it takes more than 6 weeks to repair an elevator.
