Oub Kham Museum

I loved this little place. Its a collection put together over the years by a local teacher. He has found some amazing bits of history. I was shown around by a lady who had a really great knowlwdge of everything. She patiently answer all my questions and brought the collection to life. She even made .e tea when the tour was finished. Very kind. There is a toilet onsight and alot of the tour is inside in ac. The entry at the time of writing was 300b. I would recommend going if you are in the area. Its definately worth a visit to see the history of the area.

I found the museum full of authentic interesting items. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and happy to answer our many questions. The layout is that each room offers a collection of similar items, the collection is extensive. I learned a lot about the history and how things were made. Green sequins made from bug wings. Golden thread embroidery. How giant bamboo bowls are made and of course about royal symbolism and religions. Something to note … they didn’t accept credit cards… it was with every bot we paid and plan for 2 hours if you are even remotely intrigued by Thai people and culture.

Small gem of a temple, crammed full of things, informative and friendly guide. 300 baht per adult is worth it. I was there early, just as it opened, so was the only visitor

The museum is interesting, but the way it’s presented needs to be improved. I was alone there, and the guide didn’t seem very happy to show me around. She even complained to me that she was tired from climbing the stairs up and down, as she had just filled in for someone. If you don’t want to say the same thing over and over again hundreds of times, put up signs or provide audio guides so visitors can learn about each item and enjoy their time. I spent two hours there—mostly waiting for guides—and they kept trying to rush through the tour. In the end, I regretted spending 200 Baht here. I could have gotten a massage instead.

This place is a must. Not only is the exhibition full of interesting stuff, some of which you will not see anywhere else, but they offer an English-speaking guide who is very nice and knowledgeable. There are many places to appreciate the craft of Thai people, but this visit really helps to understand the meaning of the objects. The entrance is 300 baht for adults, but keep in mind that this includes the guide. And it is very well worth it!

Absolutely great museum of Mekong region, especially Burmese cultural heritage, all fruits of lifelong efforts of a true enthusiast, who hassprciguvally studied history and museum management just to organize this enormous and precious collection, some of exhibits of which are as old as 1400 years! Thank you very much for preserving this priceless heritage and for letting our and future generations to get good look at it.

This is such a beautifull historical museum with so many cultural object about former Kingdoms in Thailand, especially the Lanna Kingdom. It is a little bit expensive (300 baht adult), but holidays costs more so I think it is worth visiting it. We, 3 people, were the only ones so we got a private tour. When you visit Chiang Rai, this museum must be on your bucket list! And afterwards you should drink a perfect cup of Akha coffee, out of the museum left, cross the streets and then 20 mtrs.
