Stayed a night to experience an onsen and ryokan while on a solo trip in Japan. Even though they didn’t speak English, they had an English cheat sheet and were very kind and welcoming. Had a great time!

They don’t speak English, but they have been able to let me feel very welcomed. The 2 internal onsens are not so special and quite small, but there is an agreement with another onsen close by with a very nice infrastructure. Dinner and breakfast included. Checkout a bit early, by 10am.

There were two rooms with hot spring baths. They were small, but you were given access to a large public hot springs bathhouse once per day of stay. The room we were staying in was large and was Japanese style. There were five of us and we were able to sleep fine. There was a TV, Wifi, free tea, and a complimentary snack. Twas good.

If you'd like the full ryokan experience in Hakone but are somewhat confused about the choices out there and the vast price differences (like we were), then you should consider Omiya Ryokan. We certainly enjoyed our stay - rooms were pleasant, food (especially dinner) was delicious and besides the free private hot baths, the closest hot springs are a mere 2 minutes' walk away. Staff were generally helpful (one spoke decent English) and the place is a 10 minute bus ride from the main station. If you are OK with shared bathrooms and don't want to spend a fortune on your ryokan, we definitely recommend this place.

We stayed for one night. It was expensive and the room was small and shabby, Toilets down the corridor, wash basin in a lobby area. The 'onsen' style bath was luke warm and tatty and they had the nerve to charge 200 Yen per towel. The rooms were reasonably clean but the staff were not particularly friendly and were ill-informed. The advised last bus back from town at 10ish was not actually running after 6.45pm and it is a hell of a lot further to walk up from the town than suggested - takes about 25 mins and its up a steep hill. When we got into town almost everything was shut. I wouldn't ever go here again.

Our whole visit to Hakone was a pleasure, and I'm glad we stayed here at this ryokan. ||The accommodation was quiet and clean, the host was very friendly and having two spring water onsen on site is a bonus. ||There's an outdoor onsen just around the corner and two local bus lines connect the property to the Hakone Yamato train station.

Nice homely ryokan with great traditional rooms. Dinner was great as well, very filling and satisfied afterwards. Only issue is that it's somewhat far from the station and main attractions and public transport was expensive. Also they were offered half price to use an outside onsen in another building but still somewhat exxy as previous reviews stated this was for free

We accidentally booked the wrong Omiya Ryokan (we meant to book the Hakone one, but ended up booking the Zen Onsen one by mistake). We arrived in the evening and the couple running Omiya Ryokan were kind enough to spend a half hour on the phone, trying to find us lodging for the night out of the kindness of their hearts. While we're unable to comment on staying here, we can assure you the staff / owners will take great care of you.
