A ‘Frozen’-Inspired Family Vacation With Reindeer, Saunas, and Northern Lights

"Lift tickets at Ounasvaara, the local ski hill in Rovaniemi, cost a fraction of what it would have run us for a similar experience in Utah. And while the ski resort had just a handful of lifts and 13 slopes to schuss down, it was perfectly sized for our crew."

Snow was very soft. But that was the end of the season and a warm day (14°c!!). The slopes are fun. Was expecting less. Had a nice day! Keep in mind one side of the area opens at 1pm. Will come back for sure

Nice place, not super difficult and short (compared to alps) slopes. A lot of trees and snow. Full day skiing with gear for two is 200€

This is a hill just outside Rovamieni town centre. It is great for beginners. The ski rental and lesson personal ski lesson were good. In late January the snow was powdery and perfect for a beginner and it wasn’t too busy. There were quite a few snowboarders. The hotel at the top of the lifts is fantastic with a highly regarded Lappish restaurant. There is a cafe next to the ski hire shop. You can email the ski hire shop before you arrive to book and pay for private lessons. I will go back one day.

Great location, short & challenging but fun runs that will keep you busy all day.

Well maintained slopes and very easy to buy tickets and rent gear. However, it‘s a bit pricey for only 3 slopes and one lift open…

Nice place to experience skiing for the first time. The ski school instructors are very patient and helpful. Location is near our hotel at Sokos Vaakuna Rovaniemi, 5 mins drive away.

Finally I reached the lapland and couldn’t skip the opportunity to snowboard for the first time in my life. I actually thought it would be easy since I do Skateboard. FYI it’s not the same and it’s better to get classes, the staff and trainers are helpful so do ask questions before you make decisions. I couldn’t find my way properly around the snowboard but practice does the trick. There is a free slide if you are not looking to go higher up and feel comfortable (beginners options) I would recommend

It is a nice ski center with a lot of equipment options. We stayed whole day, you need to pay for the equipment and for the lift, we paid 180 euro for 2 people for the whole day. You can also pay for 3 hours but the price difference is very small. I guess better to pay for the whole day. Number 6 is the easy one, but there is a U turn in the middle, so still be careful. We had fun!
