Panagia tou Kastrou (Our Lady of the Burgh) is one of the oldest churches within the Medieval City of Rhodes. Its history perfectly mirrors the island's complex past. Originally built as a Byzantine Orthodox church likely in the 11th century, it served the commercial district before the Knights arrived.
Under the Knights Hospitaller, from the 14th century onwards, the church was significantly transformed into a grand Gothic Catholic Cathedral, serving as the official church for the Latin Archbishopric. Following the Ottoman conquest in 1522, it was converted into the Enderum Mosque (Enderum Camii), reflecting another major shift in the island's rulers.
During the Italian period, restoration efforts aimed to reveal its medieval Gothic character again. Today, it no longer functions as a place of worship but serves as an exhibition space managed by the Archaeological Service. You can still see remnants of medieval frescoes inside, hinting at its long and varied history.
