How to Travel & Work Around the World with WWOOF in 2025

"At the Tuscan farm we were once asked to move a huge pile of firewood that was full of scorpions, which we refused, and later felt we were spending too much time weeding flower beds; the situation didn’t improve, so we left the farm a week early. Although that stay went badly enough to cut it short, out of the more than 30 farms I’ve visited around the world this was the only time it happened again." - Matthew Kepnes

Unbelievable & Unique—A Must-Do in Tuscany! Our experience with Our Tuscan Farm was unbelievable—truly a unique experience unlike any other. We booked the Wine & Olive Oil Tasting and Cooking Class, and it ended up being the absolute highlight of our trip. From the moment we arrived, Shannon and her husband Marco made us feel so welcome—like we were part of the family. It genuinely felt like we were spending the evening at a friend’s house, which made the whole experience even more special. We started with a tour of their beautiful villa and learned all about the history of the home and how their family produces their wine and olive oil. Then came the cooking experience with Marco’s sweet mother, Nona, where we made homemade ravioli by hand. It was such a personal and authentic moment. Throughout the evening, Shannon took lots of great photos and videos so we’d have beautiful memories to take home with us. We ended the night on their terrace, where we enjoyed the dinner we had just made—served with their homemade wine, fresh olive oil, warm bread, and a lovely meat and cheese board. It was such a relaxed, magical setting. This was by far one of the best parts of our trip, and we’ll be recommending it to all of our friends and family. If you’re in Tuscany, this is an absolute must-do!

Words will never capture just how thankful we were to have @ourtuscanfarm welcome us into their home and their family. From the moment they greeted us at the door of their amazing property we were stunned by the beauty of the land and blown away by how well designed the interior of the home was. Yet what stood out most was the warmth and kindness of the people who live there. Marco and Shannon shared their story of how they came to call Tuscany home, and just what “home” means to them. Marco’s genuine excitement when explaining the olive oil and wine making process was contagious, and it was easy to see how his passion shine through in the product. As he described why he chose to operate his farm as a small family business, I was almost moved to tears. He explained “we do it for us - not to get rich or to please anyone else. We create a product that we enjoy, and we do everything as a family”. The mentality of their farm is to bring joy to their family through lived experiences, and to create familial memories that will last a lifetime. These memories are priceless; and worth far more than any bottle of wine a mass production factory could produce. In a world where too many people are motivated by money and social stature, it was incredibly powerful to meet people who were driven by kindness, humanity and a deep respect for the land they call home. We walked away with a memory that will last a lifetime, and a moment we will never forget. Thank you Marco, Shannon, Demi (and especially Nonna!) for sharing your home with us. Your family is the embodiment of choosing intentionality over commodity, and we can’t wait to follow in your footsteps.

A truly magical, immersive and outstanding experience! Having traveled the world, I’ve rarely been so completely welcomed and humbled by the generosity and kindness of locals. Marco and Shannon are living the dream in a bucolic town outside Florence. Their home is a restored farmhouse located on their small vineyard and olive grove. Marco’s parents and the young children all pitch in around the farm and they make wine, prosciutto and olive oil in the manner of prior generations. We were welcomed with open arms, casual comfort and magnificent surroundings. The cooking class with Nonna made me feel like my very own dear Grammie was teaching me and our lunch was deliciouso! My heart is full after spending so a day with this lovely, kind and generous family.

What an amazing experience and one we will never forget!! The family is so gracious, the property is amazing, learning about the production of olive oil and wine was fascinating, and learning to make fresh pasta was perfection. I can’t say enough amazing things about our hosts and look so forward to our next visit to Tuscany and their farm. In the meantime the olive oil I brought home will be a constant delicious reminder of our time spent there. The wine didn’t make it home, we drank it all before we left. And I will treasure the handmade bag that Nonna Barbara created. ♥️🇮🇹🫶🏻

Wow what a special day! My son and I were on a mother son trip to Florence and this truly was a highlight of the trip. We did the half day experience. From the moment we arrived we felt like family. Shannon, Marco, nonna and their daughter Demi could not have been more lovely! My son had the best time playing with everyone and running around the farm. It truly is a magical special place and I hope I'll have the chance to return again.

This was definitely a highlight of our two-week trip throughout Italy and a must if you are visiting the Tuscany region! It lived up to my dream of being on a Tuscan farm drinking wine and making pasta! My husband and I were greeted by Shannon and Marco and instantly felt welcomed into their BEAUTIFUL farmhouse. We got a full tour of their wine and olive oil operation, enjoyed the view while sipping wine and snacking on cheese and meat from the neighbors, learned how to make pasta with Nonna, and then enjoyed a fabulous dinner with the hosts! We felt right at home and loved getting to hear their story of how they ended up on a farm. This family is an absolute GEM!

World class Tuscan immersion!!! This is definitely a “must do” when visiting the region! Shannon, Marco and Nonna Barbara opened their stunningly beautiful home to us, shared their passion for wine making and olive oil then shared an incredible day making ravioli and memories that will last a lifetime. We’ve done cooking classes before but this one was truly an exceptional experience. The magic of the region, beautiful wines and olive oil, and the genuine friendliness of the family and desire to share it with others is simply world class! Wishing them great success…see you again soon!
