As a solo traveller I joined the Thomson River Sunset Cruise and dinner in Longreach mid July. Honestly, can’t recommend this enough. Had the best night. Skipper and deckhand/barman were awesome, entertaining, knowledgeable. Sunset on the river was spectacular! Birds were beautiful, whistling kites, turtles, ducks, Indigenous History. Made some wonderful friends on the cruise who I joined later for the dinner. Dinner was delicious and the entertainment was perfect. Finished off with the best damper I’ve ever tasted! All the staff were wonderful, happy, friendly and grateful for our support of Outback communities. Highly recommended, don’t miss this experience while visiting Longreach.

Had two brilliant experiences. Lazy Sunday train ride to Ilfracombe plus the Sunset cruise with dinner at Smithy's and both were exceptional. Learnt loads of local history and info about the landscape and geological features. The cruise and dinner were the highlight. Great food,with sensational entertainment from Drew Blundell. Loved the damper and billy tea to finish the night.

We really enjoyed Smithy’s Sunset Cruise and dinner. From pick up to drop off we were looked after. It was very peaceful cruising down the Thompson River. Joyce provided us with pre-dinner nibbles and managed the bar. The dinner was served to us at tables by friendly attentive staff and we enjoyed the music by singer and guitarist Drew Blundell. I’d thoroughly recommend this experience if visiting Longreach.

Great experience. Good value and brilliant food. Great way to get a bit of background on the local area and see a pretty descent sunset at the same time.

Experienced the Darr River Run Heritage Rail Motor Tour today from Longreach. Exceptional experience. Very informative native plants and animals info. Great scenery and excellent weather. Highly recommended

We had a beautiful trip this afternoon sunset train ride, and then dinner under the starts at smithy’s. Everything was beautiful and the food was excellent and the entertainment was outstanding thanks for a beautiful afternoon and evening. Would highly recommend doing this trip.

We just spent the best family evening enjoying country-style hospitality done right. Thank-you Smithy and co for our spectacular Sunset Cruise up the Thompson River, complete with nibbles from our hostess, Joyce, expert commentary on wildlife and the surrounds by our skipper, Mick, and a visit to a significant Aboriginal site to understand scar trees. The sunset that followed was just exquisite. And then, it got even better with a delicious three-course meal under the stars, fairy lights, fire pits, damper, billy tea and the dulcet tones of Corrinne Ballard to entertain us. The complimentary bus pick up and drop home with more commentary from our local knowledgeable bus driver topped of the perfect evening. It was all done with such love, right down to the Smithy team waving us off as we left the venue. If you are ever in Longreach or have international guests come to visit, don't miss out on this wonderful experience. Our family (which includes two teenagers) will remember this night fondly for a long time to come.
