How to Visit Stowe, Vermont Like a Local

"Stowe welcomed a brand-new accommodation in the spring of 2024 with the opening of Outbound Stowe. The 73-room hotel sits on nine gorgeous acres just a few minutes from the mountain and features a vintage-meets-modern mountain aesthetic. It has fewer amenities than other larger hotels in the area, but it does still sport the all-important hot tub for après-ski, and it has direct access to Stowe’s Recreation Path." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. We really enjoyed our stay — the hotel was clean, comfortable, and in a great location with friendly staff. A few things could be improved: the room lacked closet space or a place to hang clothes, water wasn’t readily available, and housekeeping only replaced towels without making beds. At check-in, a quick overview of the property and local recommendations would have been helpful. Overall, still a great experience with just a few tweaks needed.

This is now my favorite hotel in Stowe. Newly renovated (some buildings newly constructed) and done well. The rooms are large, clean, quiet, and nicely decorated. Beds are quite comfortable. The pool/hot tub/bar/restaurant area is really nicely done. Location not too far up Mountain Road, directly on the Rec Path, and an easy walk from several great restaurants is perfect. Nice additions would be some seating in the rooms besides the bed and outside the rooms to hang out on. As well, a few more dishes on the restaurant menu would make it a much better dinner option. But these are minor issues. Overall, Outbound Stowe is an awesome place to stay in Stowe.

Had a wonderful solo trip while the rest of my family was backpacking. I really enjoyed the hot tub and reading by the pool. The restaurant and bar were delicious and welcoming. It was so easy to charge my EV during the stay. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

We’ve spent a total of about 10 or 11 nights here. The pool is great, the grounds and common areas are all well maintained and very pretty. Monday nights are local nights at the pool so if you’re a visitor you will want to entirely avoid that evening, if you can. They have a hot tub, the rooms are newly renovated, beds comfortable, and it’s close to the rec path as well as nice restaurants. We are very happy staying here and will happily stay here again.

What a great place to stay. Loved everything about it. I absolutely got my best sleep away from home ever. Bed felt like a cloud. Reception was awesome. They found my CC and called me immediately to return it. Rooms are really beautiful a little retro and minimalist. Love it.

This place was magnificent. Perfect accommodations for the area. The cabin we were assigned was nice, new, and spotless. The bed was PERFECT (soft, yet supportive) and the bathroom was well stocked and user-friendly. There could've been more space to set luggage. The room was rated for up to 4 people and we barely fit 2 in with luggage while still having some space to relax. The restaurant was fantastic. We probably had the best burgers and fries we've ever had at this place. The real downsides to this place are the high fees. $50/night for pets is way above the going rate and to be charged a fee for every night is not fair. A per stay fee would seem more logical and equitable. Just because I stay longer does not mean it will take you longer to clean up after the dog. Also, the % of your room fee as a resort fee is WAY WAY beyond reasonable. Just because I pay more for a room does NOT mean I consume more of the resort-provided amenities. It seems to mean that you think I can pay more for a room so I should be able to pay more for amenities regardless of the utils I get. These 2 things, pet and resort fees, are why we probably won't stay here again in spite of all of the upsides.

This place is adorable, cute decor, in a beautiful place and has all the amenities you need. The pool was great, rooms were clean and location very walkable to take the rec trail into town. The stars of the show were Ben and Wini at the front desk though. Super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Ben recommended some great hikes for us in the area and even some things to do in Burlington.

What a GEM 💎 This hotel is the perfect combination of modern rustic and cosy atmosphere. We had the King rooms and everything was 11/10. Rooms clean, bathrooms products great and the space felt amazing for my bf and I. The staff is cool, warmth and really helpful We were there during the summer, so the location for great hikes, mountain bike and just enjoying Stowe is amazing. If I was skiing this would be my place!! We took a tour of the site and with very little details they made it look charming. We had a bite and there bar, tasty and spicy 🌶️ The pool area was really clean even if we got there for sunset. Could not recommend more 👌🏽

Yelp
Tidy well designed room with comfy bed. They really thought of everything. Plenty of areas to hang your towels, clothes, and coats. Hot water kettle in the room, with coffee to steep, or tea. A noise machine to dull any outside noise. Nice firepit areas and hot tub. The gift shop was really well stocked with great hoodie and tote bag designs, and even s'more kits. The TV in the room was easy to figure out, and came in clear. Helpful happy staff, and hot coffee for early risers. We would definitely come again, especially because they are so close to the bike trails and walking distance to town in either direction. Well done Outbound!

Yelp
Outbound Stowe appears to be a newer hotel in Stowe from what I read online. They are motel-style, but also have little private cabins that are lined up in the back of the property. I stayed in the Double Queen bed, handicap accessible room. It was very spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. I found that they didn't have a lot of functional things in the room. There weren't a lot of places to hang up towels. They didn't give the usual hotel toiletries like the shower caps, cotton swabs, makeup remover wipes, etc. They did have an electric kettle in the room and a little tray where they had some tea bags, hot coco packets, and an ice bucket. I couldn't find the other amenities from the other review like the noise machine. We only went to the main building to check in and check out, but I did see the hot coffee station and the gift shop. I didn't use either of these. I did, however, enjoy the complimentary smores one night when I had a sweet tooth. They put the kits out by the restaurant on site and there were two fire pits with a few chairs. I wish they had more, smaller fire pits so it could be a more private experience. (The people sitting at the fire pit didn't seem to appreciate when we asked if we could use the fire for smores.) The fire pits are also by an inground pool and a hot tub. The pool had signage that said it was closed, but they did not cover the pool. I'm not sure if the hot tub was open and I didn't see anyone use it during my stay. The WiFi was abysmal, which really was inconvenient because my boyfriend and I did not get great cell service for the entire trip. We were really relying on WiFi when we went to different businesses to plan things and make reservations. Because WiFi was not great at the hotel, some functions of the TV were unusable. These could be growing pains for the hotel if they are a newer business in Stowe, so hopefully they continue to grow and improve because the location is great and the foundation of a great hotel is definitely there!
