Very comfortable bed and a nicely decorated house with many antiques. We enjoyed the perculated coffee made for us each morning. Conveniently situated opposite a restaurant. The communal kitchen was well equipped and clean. Just a pity we could not leave our car and trailer on the premises before check in time. We went sight seeing on motorbikes.

The bedrooms are a bit dated but the access to a well stocked, beautiful kitchen made our stay worth 4 stars. We loved the "stoep" area where we could relax and have a meal together. Service was efficient and friendly at all times. We were reluctant to stay after reading some of the negative reviews, but it was not our experience at all.

What a surprise! A little hidden gem. Brilliant place if you are travelling with pets. Garden and property "very secure" if you own a little Houdini. All needs met with a smile. Definitely not my last visit.

When we were making bookings, the host was friendly until we paid. The host started making racist remarks. We arrived 15 minutes before check in time. When we called the host telling him we were by the gate he said he will not rush to us just because we chose to be earlier. When I asked him about the checkout procedure, since we had booked the whole house. He told me he is not my father and would not tell me what to do, rather, I should wake up and brush my teeth. Later on he came to the house with his dog and switched off all the lights while we were eating and chilling. I asked him why he switched off the lights in the lounge his response was that we would not know where to switch off the lights and so he was doing us a favour. Early in the morning, at 5am, he came to the house with his pets while we were sleeping, to use his office and his dog was entering the rooms. At 8 am he came to us asking for his keys yet check out time was 10 am. I would not advise anyone, especially black people to consider this place.

I have stayed in numerous self catering establishments in many South African cities, George a few times, Cape Town, P E, Durban, plus Namibia, Mozambique and outside Africa, even Scotland. This one beats them all by a country mile. The rooms are clean, spacious and well maintained. The property itself is a lovely old building tastefully decorated and with a garden most of us can only dream of. The communal areas such as kitchen, patio are just what you need after a long trip on the road or as a place to unwind after a day of business, sightseeing, whatever. From the moment you walk through the door you feel welcome and as if you were at home. Location is excellent, with a decent bar/pizza restaurant right across the road, supermarket a few minutes drive away. Getting to the city is a couple of turns on the road and a couple of roundabouts, 5 minutes or so. I note with dismay that there are a couple of very poor ratings on Google for this establishment. This totally baffles me. These reviews cannot possibly be in reference to Outeniqua Travel Lodge. People smoke funny things these days and get confused! The only reservation I have with writing this review is that the next time I need to stay over in George I will need to look for somewhere else. For the rest of you, don't hesitate. You will not be disappointed

Beautiful place with lovely outdoor area. Kitchen and rooms are great and the hosts are even better! So lovely and accommodating! I love the older style, the photos online don't do it justice! Also 3 furry friends to keep you company 😉

Interior of the house and garden blew us away. Upon seeing the photos, this was the reason I choose this house for a group of ten. However, I should have read the reviews regarding the treatment of people of colour. The host was not welcoming at all. When he saw my total coloured surname, he should have just said that they are fully booked. The racism was tangible.

Stayed over here for 2 nights and found the place very relaxed and comfortable. The lady owner was very cheerful and pleasent but the man was a bit more conservative. Free coffee and tea and use of kitchen with for me was lovely as i made use of the tea pot and perculated coffee whenever i was in till late at night.
