I stayed at Outpost Hostel in El Nido for two nights, and there were definitely some positives. When you arrive, the staff greet you warmly with a smile and explain everything clearly, which makes checking in feel easy. We stayed in a four-bed female ensuite room, and although the AC was blasting the first night, the staff kindly adjusted it for us the next day when we asked. The social atmosphere is a big highlight — the vibes are great, and it’s a really easy place to meet other travelers. One thing to note is that the showers only have cold water, which might be surprising if you’re expecting hot water.
But when it comes to booking tours, there were a few things I wish had been clearer. We booked Tour A through the hostel, which was advertised at 1,500 pesos, but with the added fees, it ended up being around 2,000 pesos. It would’ve been helpful for the full cost to be communicated upfront. I also wish they had mentioned that the tour is non-refundable at the time of booking.
That same night, after having drinks and food from the hostel, I unfortunately got severe food poisoning and was sick for about 48 hours. Since I couldn’t go on the tour, my friends asked if I could get a refund or at least a partial one. We were told they would ask management, but we were never told the outcome — it would have been nice to receive an update either way. Ultimately, the refund wasn’t approved, which I understand from a policy perspective, but more transparency and communication would have made the situation feel much better.
Aside from these points, if you’re looking for a place with great energy and plenty of opportunities to meet other travelers, this hostel definitely delivers. With clearer communication around tour pricing and policies, the experience could be even better.
