This is the perfect family resort. Cheap compared to other options, a nice, shallow ocean, as well as a kids/teen club to entertain any children.
Most of our trip was really good! The pool, even though it was a bit chilly as it was winter, was still full of other kids playing on the pool play structure as well as a slide, which my older kids found disappointingly slow. Still plenty big to swim around though, and the adult pool was practically empty when I went.
The beach was unlike anything I've ever seen, being shockingly shallow for at least 1000ft ahead. It was great for kids, as waves break on rocks about a mile out, so all the water is really shallow. The beach was rocky, but I appreciated how it didn't feel artificial like some resort beaches. The ocean was also warmer than the pool so a very nice temperature.
The craziest part of the ocean is probably that you can see fish just right there! They provide kayaking and snorkel gear to take out so you can see even more farther out. Like I said, the water is annoyingly shallow, but it was still incredible to be able to snorkel and kayak to see all the fish.
The room was incredible. Not too far a walk to the pool and beach, and plenty spacious for the four of us. They also came around everyday at 5ish to give us free give free snacks and drinks, which was a really nice touch. The staff who gave to food and drink remembered my sons name which was super nice.
Elaborating on the point of staff, everyone there is incredible. The resort is full of activity staff organizing volleyball games and pool activities which my kids loved. When some of my family got sick, they were there to get us whatever we needed which was just so kind. They also danced and sang at some meals which was so fun.
The meals worked out fine. The food wasn't great. Breakfast was nice, but our lunch at the beachside restaurant didn't have the best food and one dinner at the poolside place took hours. But for the majority of the trip the meals worked out just fine.
My only other complaint with the resort is the location. It's just so inconvenient to go anywhere. If you are planning to go on a snorkeling boat trip or anything they're happy to organize for you, but the car drive is over an hour.
Overall I loved my experience at the outrigger. Aside from the location and some food, everything was great. If you're looking for a family friendly resort to spend all your time, I'd definitely recommend the outrigger.
