Oval Hotel is built right into the edge of the Adelaide Oval. I’ve never seen a hotel quite like it, though I am not one to frequent sporting facilities. The rooms, which in my case faced away from the sport, are attractively furnished. The blinds open as you enter letting in the view of lush green lawns and St Peter’s Cathedral. The bed is comfortable with puffy pillows, the bathroom large with good water pressure and good shower products. The lighting, curtains, temperature and entertainment are all able to be controlled in bed. The in-room snack and booze selection (there aren’t any nearby shops) is appreciated and well-chosen.
Breakfast is not included in your room rate ($223/night for me). It can be had in-house at Bespoke Wine Bar & Kitchen. The windows of this venue face into the oval itself, which no-doubt would be exciting on game day. I didn’t find the overpriced smashed avocado toast ($27) anything special, though my dining companion appreciated it also being offered gluten-free. Coffee ($5.50) was serviceable rather than inspiring.
