it had been years since my return to this rustic little café (more like a greasy spoon) , I really liked the owners at the time and I liked the food. I've tried going in the interim, but usually there's a waiting line so my son and I will go somewhere else. Today I convinced my sons to go there with me and called ahead to make sure we did not have a wait.
The service was fine. The ambience has not changed, though the seats were more often than not torn somewhere in the vinyl. But that doesn't bug me.
My oldest son had the number one, the hashbrowns were more like steamed or boiled potato, sliced and then thrown on a griddle. Though they were soft and not browned when he received them. and flavorless according to both sons. My youngest son got a Denver omelette, which would be amazing to someone who wants more vegetables than eggs. Though he said that it did not have much flavor, and was rather watery tasting instead of savory.
I had the pancakes with macadamia nuts. They were enormous pancakes. And I do mean enormous. That is a positive. However, I noticed that the syrup did not really taste like anything, and the pancakes themselves had a weird taste, and it took me a couple bites to figure out what it was and when I did, I immediately stopped eating. It tasted as though the macadamia nuts were rancid, or the pancakes were cooked in old oil. Like when you go to a movie house that popped popcorn in rancid old popcorn oil was almost exactly the taste.
I had about four bites and just could not stomach anymore. I normally don't leave bad reviews on places, but all three of us were highly disappointed in our meals. I really do wish the best for this diner, and I know they will always have success but maybe we just went on a bad day? I know we will not be going back. I'm sorry and I feel bad about leaving a bad review but it was really not good.
