I had a Med Omelette with marble rye bread. The bread was really good. The omelette was just right. It came with potatoes and they were yummy. My son had an Irish Benedict, it was good. The service was good.

Google
I knew we were in for a good experience from the crowd waiting to get in. The wait was not long and got a table pretty quick. The service was very quick and food was served faster than we expected. Quite enjoyable atmosphere that looks like an old style of eatery where the cooks are right in the middle making your meal. Although it was quite busy, the staff was quite attentive . Food was delicious . We will be going back

Google
Place gets busy for a reason! New favorite diner in This area. Feels very authentic ma and pa diner. Highly recommend

Google
$30 with tip for Eggs Bendict & a piece of what they call French toast. (1 piece very lightly coated with egg wash.. the center is pure white bread..) the Hollidaise was "yellow but no zest no character. .. the potatoes are cooked in "eh" oil that id never use at home & mushy not crispy.. got Chai Cold was good... that was the most memorable of the rest rather non-descript meal.... Once a year in try to like this place but leave disappointed... not worth $30 !

Google
It's a hole in the wall, and holy cow is it incredible. Absolutely delicious. Update! We tried the lunch menu this time and I'm still just as in love with it as I was for breakfast. So amazing

Sher I

Google
Delicious! Cute little hole in the wall place and has the classics. Had the pancake combo with lemon blueberry pancakes. Partner had the breakfast burritos- delicious and filling. The salsa was outstanding! Will be back!

Ashley Cazier

Google
I went with my friend today and we loved it! Her eggs Benedict were enjoyable, we shared a delicious sweet roll, and I really enjoyed my omelette. The veggies were cooked to the PERFECT level of crispness. My only critiques are that there didn't seem to be any seasoning on our homes fries, and it was a little loud for my comfort. But I will definitely be returning and recommend this place to anyone looking for good food.

Lora Rasmussen

Google
It was quiet. Waiter was friendly. Food was good. We ordered the #3 and the train wreck.

Yelp
A really great hole in the wall place. The staff is always friendly and the food is good. It's almost always packed. One item of note; they don't cook the food by ticket so your table will likely get the food at various points in time. If you're wanting to have all the food brought at once, this may not be the place to eat for you.
google avatar

Yelp
Busy little cafe with high energy and waitresses that love to chat. The layout of the place is tight but we were able to manage fitting 6 people on one booth. The burritos were a great way to start the day after the festivities that transpired the night before. -1 for avocadoes on not in \ No mimosas

Yelp
This was my first time here. My son eats here often so we went on his recommendation. First the atmosphere. It feels like you've stepped back into the 1960's. There is a counter you can sit at and a few tables. It was crowded on a Sunday morning but we did get a table. The service was quick and we didn't wait for anything. The food was hearty and delicious. I asked for Crispy Bacon and it was perfect. My husband had the blueberry lemon French Toast and loved it. If you like a great breakfast and fun atmosphere, check them out.

Yelp
This cute little cafe is actually quite large, don't be fooled by the storefront, there's even an upstairs. The staff are super friendly and nice, got our large group seated right away and everyone knew the menus well. All of the breakfast options were large, delicious, and everything I'd expect from a yummy breakfast joint, but for my fancy healthy breakfast lovers, the options are a bit more limited. It's deliciously greasy predictable breakfast here, large portions too! The one disappointment was my daughter's gravy for her side of biscuits came cold. Flavor was good, but definitely would have been better hot. Lots of options for breakfast, bread and eggs, good hash, bacon or sausage and large pancakes! I would go again for the large portions and value, as well as the nostalgic hearty breakfast. It's like a Dennys or IHOP but small town feel and less corporate for sure.

Yelp
Over The Counter Cafe is a quaint little diner open for breakfast and lunch. We stopped in for lunch today and there was a bit of a wait for a table but we were able to add ourselves to the electronic tablet for the waitlist and fortunately we were seated in about 10 minutes. We sat at the counter which gives you a great view of the grill and the amazing kitchen staff just working expeditiously to fill the orders for all the hungry diners. I ordered the B.E.S.T. from the breakfast menu. This is a grilled sandwich with egg, bacon, spinach, tomato, pesto and cheddar cheese. YUM! Served with a side of "homies" which are home fries and of course some fry sauce. The sandwich was messy and gooey but that's what made it so delicious. It was served on sourdough bread and I left satisfied. We met Amy the owner when paying our check. She was very friendly and showed such gratitude to everyone that was there dining. It showed that she truly cared to make sure folks were satisfied with their dining experience at Over The Counter Cafe.

Yelp
I haven't been here for years and don't remember it being this busy where there was a long wait and limited parking. I guess when you serve a really good breakfast...word gets around. There was one seat at the counter when I got there that I was happy to sit at, however the waitress was attentive to the tables more than the counter customers. I was lucky enough to sit next to a guy that comes in every day so he actually helped me place my order and even brought me my coffee. This place is busy and LOUD. You're not going to get "cracker jack" service here, but you will get a decent breakfast at a decent price, you'll just have to have patience for a server to come and take your order and don't expect a smile they are way too busy for that

Yelp
Delicious breakfast on a nice holiday weekend! We hadn't been before, but were in the neighborhood. Fun vibe and great service, especially since we came at fairly busy time. Food was fantastic! My husband got the Spanish Omelette and said it was the best he's ever had! I have a few dietary restrictions, but thoroughly enjoyed the Home Fries and avocado slices! Husband said the coffee was really good and I enjoyed my hot green tea. They even gave me a small kettle to refresh my hot water throughout my meal! Will definitely return!

Yelp
Parking is a struggle on the premise but will be ok if you drive around the block. You'll need to come in and put your name down, there's no reservation. Inside it's much bigger than the outside, and it's a very efficient place. The food was decent for the price. I like the way they serve sourdough buttered and toasted. My corned beef harsh was ok, I thought I would get more corned beef, it was more potatoes.
google avatar

Frances G.

Yelp
I was surprised by their great and fair pricing, especially for being a place in slc. I got their two item breakfast, and upgraded the toast to a pancake (additional charge). It came with eggs, three pieces of bacon, and potatoes. All of the food was hot and fresh. The eggs were fresh and slightly fluffy, the bacon was thick, chewy and literally had no fat. It was high quality bacon! The pancake was also thick and flavorful. Everything was awesome, except for the potatoes. I wish the potatoes had some type of seasoning, I ended up putting some hot sauce. Overall, this was a hearty and filling breakfast. I'll definitely be back!

Emma T.

Yelp
Really cute spot! Love the diner vibes. The French toast and eggs were very yummy. Nothing extraordinary, but still very tasty. The piece of sausage they gave me was pretty measly, but other than that, it's a really good bang for your buck. I also like how you can customize your breakfast. I always have a hard time deciding between sweet and savory, but they had an option where I could do both!

Yelp
One of my favorite breakfast places in Salt Lake City. Classic greasy spoon diner with superb food. Everything I've had has been well prepared. Especially like their breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, and eggs. Service is fast and friendly. Everything I've had off the menu has been very good and prices are reasonable.
google avatar

Ruby S.

Yelp
We decided to try it out. Man have wee been missing out. The food was over the top, the service was great!!!! This will be our breakfast place now. The prices were reasonable. Can't say enough about it.
google avatar

Yelp
Ok Loved Loved!!! Fabulous dinette atmosphere booths, tables & counter service. Sign in on the iPad for seating - a very extensive breakfast menu! I had the Train Wreck which is huge and hot tea. Individual bathrooms and find parking in the shopping area lot. They also seek other local businesses at the counter. The potatoes are crisp, the gravy flavorful and lots of veggies. When we visit again we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Over the Counter is such a nostalgic place for me, I used to sluff class to grab burgers at the counter with friends back in the day. I am glad to see them as busy as ever, but feel like the food has fallen off a little bit, the quality just isn't what it used to be. However for what it is, greasy diner food, it still always hits the spot. I love the train wreck here, especially after a night out. Only wished that they crisp the potatoes a little bit more, and they refill the coffee a little faster.
google avatar

Melinda H.

Yelp
This is a classic All American Breakfast Diner set in a run down strip mall. This is the best of local casual not fussy breakfast joints and.... it is always busy! The food is standard American fare ... eggs, bacon, French Toast, hash browns. It's hard to go wrong here... unless you were looking for an English Tea!
google avatar

Adriana R.

Yelp
The last time I went here, I brought my boyfriend because this place had been my favorite breakfast joint for years. It's not anymore. We were placed in a corner, and they brought his food fairly quick. I ended up waiting for over 40 minutes. When I asked where my food was, the waiter said she gave it to someone else! If she had just checked on us at least once, we could have cleared everything up. The only reason I found out is because I had to flag her down and ask. We never got checked on for nearly an hour. We felt ignored, and it sucked to wait a long time only to find out your order went to the wrong table. I used to love this place, but I won't be coming back.
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the bland exterior of the restaurant. The inside is rocking with activity as dishes are made hot for you from scratch right in front of you. Delicious dishes, friendly service and large portions! I enjoyed the massage-in-house spicy sausage and oatmeal with fruit. The raspberry white chocolate pancakes are monstrous (you get two) and disgustingly delicious. Get these no matter what else you order. TIP: There is currently a coupon within the Yelp app to get a free scone with butter ($2.99 value) when you order $10 or more.

Adalberto L.

Yelp
If you've never been you're missing out. Fast and friendly service. Generous portions at unbelievable prices. I had a mushroom and Swiss omelet and my friend had the greek. He pancakes are huge and fluffy and the food is made super fast!! Just as fast as I ate it and that is why there is no pictures. Great neighborhood spot.

Yelp
Our go to SLC breakfast spot. Legit home cooked style food. After my colonoscopy this was the place I went to refill. Love the staff and the atmosphere as well.

Yelp
Good place for a fast, greasy breakfast. Once we arrived, we were greeted and told to find a place to sit where available. Our waitress was super nice and so were the other staff. I decided on the Eggs Benedict with some French Toast for us to share and my husband ordered the All Meat Omlet. I'm a biggggg Eggs Benedict fan and I've tried a lot of them over the years. I did enjoy the hollandaise sauce on top of the perfectly pouched eggs, however the thin, lunch meat ham left much to be desired and I would've preferred if my English muffin was more toasted. French toast was okay, probably could've cooked a bit longer and add some cinnamon but it wasn't bad. My husband loved his All Meat Omlet. This is a good place if you need a fast meal, fast service, and don't care too much about restaurant ambiance. I'm not a huge fan of hustle and bustle in here being so close to the kitchen (our table was right next to bar seating) so maybe next time I come in I'll see about sitting farther away.
google avatar

Reid B.

Yelp
Waiting a while for a table. Ordered a sandwich. 10 minutes later "we don't have that." "Okay, I'll just have some fries." "We don't have fries on the weekend." "Okay I give up." A restaurant that doesn't have food.

Vanessa Z.

Yelp
Food was not all good... French toast was gross, home styled fries were burnt and the omelet was like scrambled eggs instead of an omelet

Cecilia F.

Yelp
Seat yourself and enjoy a hearty breakfast. Customer service was great, everyone was so nice. We ate here twice. We would definitely eat here again. I guess you know it's a good place when you see 5-6 cop cars outside, and all are eating inside.
google avatar

Will R.

Yelp
You don't come here for the ambiance but they have a great hangover cure in their western avocado benedict
google avatar

Yelp
When I want a guaranteed good breakfast, I visit Over The Counter. They consistently hit all the marks; fast & friendly service, delicious diner fair, and reasonable prices. You'll never get anything less than their best. We ventured off our go-to menu items and tried the BEST sandwich. Which is appropriately named because it truly was the best. If you're like me and firmly believe that pesto makes everything better, than you'll be happy to know this sandwich is no exception. Outstanding sandwich bursting with so much flavor! And as usual, the pancakes were outstanding. They're made-to-order, fresh off the flat top. Classic diner pancakes through and through. OTC has so many tempting pancake flavors and mix-ins, the combinations are endless! I'm so glad OTC survived the Covid-apocalypse. Millcreek wouldn't be the same without this place!

Yelp
I always try to eat here when I am visiting SLC. No frills joint, timely service, great breakfast, and no long hipster lines. Recession friendly prices, to boot.
google avatar

Jenniffer M.

Yelp
Someone really said this was the best place in Utah for breakfast, and I was highly disappointed. I couldn't even eat this food because it taste so awful. I thought I was biting into a cardboard box at one point. I asked for potatoes and this is what they got me. I honestly have NEVER seen such a disgusting restaurant in my life. I have only been alive 25 years, but this food almost took me out. I got so sick after a few bites. I literally had to soak the syrup in the French toast to give it a flavor. Don't ask for salt and pepper because that's too spicy. Please do not go here. Whatever you do, save yourself and go to Dunkin' Donuts down the street.

david s.

Yelp
Our server, Magda, was amazing and directed us to an awesome breakfast. everybody was super nice and there was no wait when we were looking at an hour plus at places nearby. 10/10 will return, thanks again Magda!
google avatar

Katherine K.

Yelp
Service was friendly and fast, but the food was mediocre at best even for a greasy-spoon diner. Granted, we went an hour before they closed, but considering there was no wait, that's still plenty of time for a leisurely brunch. Instead, our food was brought out less than 5 minutes after ordering - a sure sign most of it had been premade and sitting under a warmer. My pancake was burnt black and tasted charred. The omelet was fine, but fairly bland and swimming in vegetable oil. The building is old and definitely shows it, and the booths could use refinishing, but in a way, that's part of the charm. It seemed clean enough, except for a large metal fan that was stored on top of the soda fountain and caked with dust bunnies, which did not give me a lot of confidence in their overall health score. The restrooms were probably the newest and cleanest part of the place. Overall, I may give this place a second chance to support local, but I'm not jonesing to go back anytime soon.

Yelp
it had been years since my return to this rustic little café (more like a greasy spoon) , I really liked the owners at the time and I liked the food. I've tried going in the interim, but usually there's a waiting line so my son and I will go somewhere else. Today I convinced my sons to go there with me and called ahead to make sure we did not have a wait. The service was fine. The ambience has not changed, though the seats were more often than not torn somewhere in the vinyl. But that doesn't bug me. My oldest son had the number one, the hashbrowns were more like steamed or boiled potato, sliced and then thrown on a griddle. Though they were soft and not browned when he received them. and flavorless according to both sons. My youngest son got a Denver omelette, which would be amazing to someone who wants more vegetables than eggs. Though he said that it did not have much flavor, and was rather watery tasting instead of savory. I had the pancakes with macadamia nuts. They were enormous pancakes. And I do mean enormous. That is a positive. However, I noticed that the syrup did not really taste like anything, and the pancakes themselves had a weird taste, and it took me a couple bites to figure out what it was and when I did, I immediately stopped eating. It tasted as though the macadamia nuts were rancid, or the pancakes were cooked in old oil. Like when you go to a movie house that popped popcorn in rancid old popcorn oil was almost exactly the taste. I had about four bites and just could not stomach anymore. I normally don't leave bad reviews on places, but all three of us were highly disappointed in our meals. I really do wish the best for this diner, and I know they will always have success but maybe we just went on a bad day? I know we will not be going back. I'm sorry and I feel bad about leaving a bad review but it was really not good.

Nichell L.

Yelp
The outside looks tame but as soon as you walk in the place is poppin. We sat at the counter right where you can see both grills whipping up orders. This place is a gem! I was craving something filling and sweet for breakfast so I ordered the French toast with berries and whipped cream and a side of turkey bacon and scrambled eggs It hit the spot! Highly recommend checking it out - it's on our favorites list.
google avatar

Yelp
It's pretty good for a diner. Went there for a quick brunch date with my bf and they were fast and servers were attentive. The food was okay but I still appreciate the quick service!
google avatar

Luz C.

Yelp
By far the best eggs Benedict I've ever had. It was creamy, flavorful and the eggs were perfectly poached! Very cozy atmosphere and the service was fast.

Nick H.

Yelp
Over the counter is always great! Friendly staff, good food, fun place! Cant complain!

Kathryn L.

Yelp
Don't tell anyone this place is Great! They will probably take your seat. Yummy food! Friendly fast service, diner atmosphere.
google avatar

Abigail W.

Yelp
Waffle House vibes in the best way possible. We thought the food was good for the price but the vibe is scary fosho. We sat at the counter and watching the eggs get poached was scary ifykyk. However both my husband and I got stuff with poached eggs and it was still good. Potatoes were ok but need some fat or sat for sure. Drink selection was awesome for a diner vibe! Overall a good experience. We were seated and fed within an hour.

Yelp
Was served a plate of cold egg benedict , yuck ! Our other breakfast plate was served with wrong , both plates were very small , not worth what we paid for , one star for the good and fluffy pancake . First time here and won't be back .

Jack U.

Yelp
The place was super busy but we got sat within 10 minutes! Service was great and food was even better. My coffee was never empty! We got raspberry chocolate chip pancakes in a combo with eggs and bacon. Bacon was thick cut and cooked to perfection just like I like!

Nick a.

Yelp
Food was great great. Service was solid as well. I had the Greek omelet, super tasty, and my wife really enjoyed her gluten free pancakes. Pleasantly surprised with this Yelp find

B T.

Yelp
Wasn't terrible but wasn't astounding. Good prices. VERY crowded but I guess that's a testament to the food. Fast service.
google avatar

Mark G.

Yelp
It's amazing how this place has 4 stars.. its rot gut , bland, uncomfortable and weird... the cups are stained, the noise is high.. the food is low cost... this is what ....Utah'nz want? Yeesh!! It got 2 stars for popularity! And that they're open early. And please pleanty it si seems..
google avatar

Noel V.

Yelp
My favorite thing about Over The Counter Cafe is that on a busy day you get your food fairly quick. The home fries, toast, and eggs were good, but my steak that came with it was alright --somewhat bland. I think it's a great joint to eat for the locals. Hearty food, high paced environment and inexpensive. Your average breakfast joint.
google avatar

Erica J.

Yelp
I like you guys and understand you're busy, but giving a black burned pancakes to a door dash employee to deliver is pretty lame. We tasted it. Tastes and smells like burnt food, not blueberry pancakes. It can't be redelivered, and a new order has to be placed. Another hour or so? Totally not cool. Step it up. We are supporting you through this pandemic, and this is not how you should be serving food.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
I actually heard about this in a review for another restaurant- some guy said to save your money and just go to OTC for better food... so thank you for that! I got a crazy amount of good food for $10! I was worried when I pulled up because it looks... not very pretty haha. But I felt welcome as soon as I walked in and our waiter was helpful and hilarious. Full of good info about the food. I got a free scone with my Yelp check in which was a great appetizer. Warm and buttery and soft. I got the Holly as a pile per my waiter's suggestion and really did like it! The hollandaise and the runny yolk? So good. Nice complement to the pile of veggies underneath. I swapped my included side of toast for a raspberry pancake and loved the pockets of raspberry throughout. My friend got the French toast combo and said it wasn't the best he's ever had but it was good enough that he wished he could eat it all again today. :)

Scott E.

Yelp
This breakfast place has a great buzz. Set up for high volume, especially on weekends. Solid breakfast fare with ample servings. If you leave this place hungry, it's your own fault.
google avatar

Chloe B.

Yelp
I'm torn between giving this place a 5 and a 1. Pre Covid I'd give it a 5: Wait staff was like a good friend. Always nice, attentive and the food was good and priced well. Post covid I'd give it a 1. Our waitress didn't smile, took our order and we never saw her again. She seems more interested in filling the condiments and talking with other staff then checking on us. And this wasn't the first time we had her and the same treatment. My eggs were burned (??) and flies were circling my plate the whole time. I understand times are tough because of covid, but the place was as busy as ever, so I can't imagine they're hurting for business rights now. Hopefully the owners read this and batten down the hatches.
google avatar

Kate S.

Yelp
It's nothing special, but still fun vibes. You could get better food somewhere else, but it's not terrible. Nice staff.
google avatar

McKenna K.

Yelp
Going to OTC is like being transported back to a time when people left front doors open for each other and kids played in the streets. It's still family owned and run by great people with a wonderful staff who make you feel right at home! The menu is classic, but far from boring. My go-to is the OTC Skillet + avo with sourdough toast and one of their great Mamachari kombucha flavors!(Mamachari is owned/operated by the same family right here in SLC!) YUM. My husband loves to get the Holly omelet in a pile. We always have to finish off by sharing a short stack for "breakfast dessert". Raspberry white chocolate or banana chocolate chip are the way to go!! They get busy, but we're still always pleasantly surprised how quickly the food comes out. Over the Counter is a great little spot with something for everyone! Go check it out!!

Yelp
Neighborhood haunt with very friendly staff. No muss no fuss, just good food. I do wish it was more wheelchair accessible but they always make it work.
