Ovolo South Yarra (Melbourne, Victoria) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Ovolo hotels are nothing if not eye-catching, perhaps none more so than Ovolo South Yarra, a Seventies-influenced rock-and-roll hotel in one of Melbourne’s hippest neighborhoods. Amidst all the visual fireworks it’s easy to forget that this brand’s hotels are more than a little bit luxurious as well — even the Snug rooms feature high-end comforts where they count, and the suites are positively lavish. Lona Misa, the restaurant, serves a Latin American–influenced cuisine that’s almost entirely plant-based; Backroom, the cocktail lounge, is all low-lit glamour and Art Deco chic." - Tablet Hotels

The 6 Best Hotels in Melbourne

"I like the eclectic, retro-chic vibe of this trendy four-star hotel in South Yarra—bright, pop-art-filled common areas and funky furniture make it a fun place to hang out. The hotel offers useful amenities like a 24/7 gym and complimentary self-serve laundry, plus playful touches such as a sweets station by the elevators with jars of gummies, jellybeans, and M&Ms; the on-site restaurant Lona Misa serves breakfast and plant-based, Latin-inspired dishes in the evenings. Rooms are compact but stylish with a 1970s color palette, good natural light, soundproofing, blackout blinds, and comfortable beds; in-room features include flatscreen TVs, Bluetooth speakers, and a tap with filtered water to avoid single-use plastics. Bathrooms are sleek with rain showers, quality toiletries, and quirky tile designs—overall a cozy, unique option for travelers who want something different." - Matthew Kepnes

Truly fabulous hotel. The staff were super friendly. The rooms were neat and clean. Superb firm mattress with excellent pillows. Very effective black out blinds. A trendy little bar near reception. All round my favourite place to stay in Melbourne.

One of the most aesthetic eclectic funky staycation places in the heart of South Yarra. Comfortable room and complimentary self-service laundry with good breakfast options. Thank you so much Ms. Ella & Mr. Sandy from Reception team and to all Ovolo South Yarra staffs for great services and hospitality so that this place is so homey.

loved it. just got a snug as was only a quick stay, it's small as advertised but cleverly laid out and with some modern touches (motion sensor light near bathroom, auto Chromecast for streaming to the telly). hotel had a great vibe with friendly staff and a super restaurant/bar. all located right near chapel Street. we recommend. also we had a surprisingly quiet room which we worried about from the reviews and stayed a Saturday night. maybe some rooms worse than others but we slept like logs.

The front desk team is absolutely amazing—Chris, in particular, was exceptionally kind and welcoming! The rooms are beautiful, spotless, and quiet, with state-of-the-art amenities. The location is also incredible!||However, a word of caution regarding the “breakfast included” option. The restaurant’s management, chefs, and several servers were unprofessional and confrontational. The only bright spot was Lilly, who was kind and accommodating throughout our stay. Because of the poor service, our group chose to have breakfast elsewhere for the remaining days, despite it being included with our stay. The hotel’s ownership and management should seriously review the restaurant operations—it does not reflect the excellence of the rest of the hotel.

Listen, I get the whole retro vibe thing etc, but to be honest for a business trip I will never stay here again.. the rooms are too small to move around, there was nowhere to even put a laptop so I could check emails etc.. the bathroom basin was actually in the hall entrance. There was no ironing board or iron, and you had to use a shared laundry on another level...

Aesthetically pleasing design. Room is compact but cosy for one person, not sure about two though. The street noise was very LOUD so I would recommending bringing earplugs. I had a terrible sleep due to the noise. It’s also a bit weird for the hotel to charge $100 at check in. Other hotels usually just ask for a card to be put on file but no charge. They didn’t explain when I willget the refund back either.

Would love to give five stars but a lot of things during my stay fell short of amazing, the lobby and dining area are absolutely amazing and true to advertising but our “city view room” on the second floor was more of a building next door view, the room itself was clean a tiny bit small but for a short stay decent enough for two people, the filtered tap was such a good extra but after receiving my deposit back today I have been informed that the mini bar is not inclusive despite all the recent reviews and advertisements I had seen suggesting otherwise so that was a massive shock, also if staff are going to suggest they would have comped the items if it had only been one or two drinks maybe just tell them not to say anything at all because I think that just leaves disgruntled guests feeling a bit more disgruntled, back to the room some of the issues in the room included a really confusing lighting system we couldn’t figure out how to turn all the lights off and then turn the bathroom light on when we needed it and then one of the panels fell off the wall so we couldn’t do anything with it anyway, prior to leaving me enjoyed our breakfast but felt a bit rushed and that other customers received more care then we did, would have loved to have been asked if we wanted anymore drinks or just to know how our meal went. Overall it wasn’t the worst stay but i definitely wouldn’t return on my own free will.

This was a fantastic hotel to stay at, one of my recent favourites! The beds were really comfortable. It was quiet. The room was really quirky and stylish. The room I chose was a good size. I didn’t pick the smallest room. The laundry room was really helpful and something that stands out from other hotels. The breakfast was awesome. I hate hotel buffets with lots of mediocre offerings. The breakfast here was one where you choose from a menu what you would like and all of the things I chose over 5 days were delicious. The staff here are all friendly. The south Yarra station is just a 2 minute walk away. I really love the Lona Misa restaurant and I have visited it many times. The food is devine. I just felt happy and comfortable here. I recommend this hotel if you like a quirky boutique experience. Don’t come here if you are a boring straight person who wants a boring plain hotel with a boring buffet breakfast.

I discovered the Ovolo in Sydney years ago and it became my favorite. My daughter and I would stay there exclusively twice a year when visiting family. This trip we went to Melbourne and looked up an Ovolo. Upon arrival the hotel had the upbeat, quirky vibe we loved. We booked rooms near each other but got 2 at opposite ends and street side.
