Ovolo South Yarra

I stayed at this hotel on 10/3/25 and unfortunately, my experience was marred by poor communication and unprofessional service. Due to unexpected flight issues, I contacted the hotel multiple times to inform them about my delayed arrival and request an adjustment. I received no response. This lack of communication caused unnecessary stress, as I was unsure whether my reservation would be honored. When I finally arrived, the front desk agent greeted me by saying, “We heard you had flight issues.” This made it clear that my messages had been received — they simply chose not to respond. That level of disregard for guest communication is unacceptable, especially when dealing with travel disruptions. On the morning of 10/5/25, I checked out a day early around 6:50 AM and again notified the front desk. The agent barely acknowledged me. He appeared to be on a personal call via AirPods and continued the conversation throughout the interaction — not only with me, but also with two other guests. It was clear the call was not work-related, and his dismissive attitude gave the impression that we were inconveniencing him. It’s disappointing to experience this level of unprofessionalism at a hotel that’s part of an international brand. The property itself is charming and well-located, but the staff’s lack of communication and disregard for guest experience significantly impacted my stay. This is why I’ve rated the hotel 3 stars — great potential, but serious improvements are needed in staff training and guest service.

This was a fantastic hotel to stay at, one of my recent favourites! The beds were really comfortable. It was quiet. The room was really quirky and stylish. The room I chose was a good size. I didn’t pick the smallest room. The laundry room was really helpful and something that stands out from other hotels. The breakfast was awesome. I hate hotel buffets with lots of mediocre offerings. The breakfast here was one where you choose from a menu what you would like and all of the things I chose over 5 days were delicious. The staff here are all friendly. The south Yarra station is just a 2 minute walk away. I really love the Lona Misa restaurant and I have visited it many times. The food is devine. I just felt happy and comfortable here. I recommend this hotel if you like a quirky boutique experience. Don’t come here if you are a boring straight person who wants a boring plain hotel with a boring buffet breakfast.

Pros: Funky decor, art in reception area, friendly helpful staff. Good location. Quiet in the room despite facing Traffic Toorak Rd. |Cons: issues with my room: mini bar fridge was leaking, tiny bin in the room filled quickly and no room cleaning provided, had to request more tea, milk etc for the second night, double bed was twin beds put together but the beds separated during the night and weren’t stable to sleep on, the ‘hotel carpark’ is a public carpark with shady people hanging around yelling and screaming at the entrance. |This hotel could be a really good place to stay if there was more care and attention given to guest comfort.

I love staying at the Ovolo when I visit Melbourne, the team there is highly professional and very welcoming. The rooms are cozy but very clean and the hotel is very trendy/fun without being overwhelming or cluttered. Jane on the front desk is a super star (which I need after traveling for 24+ hours from London). I look forward to my next visit at the Ovolo.

It has taken me a month to do this review - we really liked our stay, the location is super convenient closed to chapel st and many shops, cafes, restaurants. Train station is only 5 mins away, making it very easy to move around. Loved the decoration, very retro and cool. We chose one of the smaller rooms (boogie city) the space was not huge but was perfect for what we needed. Bed was very comfy and had a miny fridge with snacks, drinks etc. I was a little disappointed to see that the only coffee was instant, other similar hotels would have nesspresso coffee machines. The cutlery was really lacking, only 1 little spoon etc. We had plenty of options for coffee but would have been nice to have a better coffee available in the room. We could not workout the broadcast and end up watching normal tv. I did not ask for help as it was just at the end of the evening and was not that important. Bathroom was good, the toilet area was a little see through which was not a problem for us. The shower was really good and was a decent size. We had breakfast at their restaurant lona misa and was great, full of flavour. In general we had a nice stay & would recommend.

Located close to the South Yarra train station & cheap $6 a night parking garage nearby. It was a very lovely stay & fun experience. There was even a filtered water tap in our room & sour snakes & marshmallows located next to the lifts

Loved the cool retro vibe at Ovolo South Yarra! If you’re into pop art and something a bit different, this place nails it. The staff were friendly and check-in was easy.The room was clean, and well thought out—maybe on the smaller side, but still comfortable.Best of all is the location—right near Chapel Street with plenty to do just a short walk away. Perfect spot for exploring South Yarra with loads of personality.

I stayed for just one night, but had a really lovely experience. I had a small issue during check-in, but the person at the front desk was incredibly kind, attentive, and quick to help - which made all the difference. The service overall was great, and I genuinely enjoyed my short stay.
