Own Montevideo (Montevideo, Uruguay) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Most travelers to Montevideo are on their way somewhere else, to the classic Uruguayan resort of Punta del Este, maybe, or the trendy beach enclaves around José Ignacio. But the historic port city is worth a visit on its own. Across the wide expanse of the Rio de la Plata from Buenos Aires, it’s the other birthplace of tango, a quiet bastion of elegant architecture with a clamoring seafood market and an appealing seafront promenade. A few good hotels have popped up around town, giving you an extra reason to make a night of it in the southernmost capital in the Americas. Own Montevideo is one of these." - Tablet Hotels

Disappointing experience – paid more, got less I booked this hotel via Agoda. We deliberately chose a higher room category and paid around 25% more specifically because I am extremely noise-sensitive. Before arrival, we even contacted the hotel asking for a room on a higher floor. The hotel replied that they would try to accommodate this, subject to availability and didn't mention anything, that our room category isn't even eligible for this. Upon arrival, however, we were told that the room category we booked is only on the lowest floors because we had supposedly booked the cheapest room category. This was simply not true. I tried to explain that we booked through Agoda and paid significantly more, but the staff did not listen and completely ignored the fact that we had contacted them in advance. Later in the evening, I even showed the Agoda app directly to the staff member, clearly proving that we paid more for the higher category (even above the honeymoon category, clearly stating a higher price). Still, no effort was made to resolve the situation. This is not how guests should be treated. There was obviously a mistake either on the hotel’s side or Agoda’s side, but instead of taking responsibility or finding a fair solution, the issue was brushed off. Paying more to receive less is simply not acceptable. Very disappointing handling of a situation that could have been resolved professionally.

Could be nice but somehow isn’t. We booked a junior twin room, which was one of the more expensive rooms, only to end up right above the restaurant and overlooking the busy street. We asked for a different room and ended up in one on the zeroth floor with a distinct odor of a place that hasn’t been aired in a while. The front desk staff’s explanation of why we paid more for less was… not. They obviously had a mismatch in room categories on Agoda. Happens. But this needs to be addressed when guests bring it up, not brushed aside. Whoever designed the rooms obviously went with design first and functionality second. You can’t close the shower and prevent water from ending up all over the bathroom floor. There’s no soap holder by the sink. Little annoyances that add up. The rooftop pool was the most disappointing sight. Tiny area with just a few old beach chairs, no shade whatsoever, and an abandoned bar. No way anyone can stay there and have a good time. If we’re ever back in Montevideo we’ll book somewhere else.

Nice little hotel in a handy waterfront location but a couple of issues to note. Shower is walk in and side panel is not wide enough to keep water in so it saturated tiled floor making it very slippery and dangerous with only a tiny mat provided. Breakfast is mainly cold selection plus bacon and scrambled eggs which rarely gets replenished. Only coffee available is standard coffee out of an urn which is awful. If you are on 1st floor above kitchen it's very noisy from 6.30 when they are preparing for service. Reception service is efficient and helpful.

I had an absolutely amazing experience at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming, professional, and attentive to every detail. The room was spotless, spacious, and beautifully decorated, with a super comfortable bed and all the amenities I needed. The location is perfect — close to everything, yet peaceful and quiet at night. The breakfast buffet was ok. I also really appreciated the fast Wi-Fi, great room service, and relaxing atmosphere throughout the entire property. Everything exceeded my expectations. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-quality hotel experience.

This hotel was amazing and is in the most fantastic location! It is perfectly situated between the city and the beach and very close to a fabulous shopping centre. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. Very good facilities and very friendly and helpful staff throughout our stay. Also offers extremely good value for money and a great breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Wehighly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again when we next visit Montevideo.

Stayed 3 nights, arrived late evening Gent on reception was friendly checking us. Room was good but faced a wall with another hotel room at a 90° angle so curtains closed all time. In a good location near beach and big shopping centre. Breakfast was difficult it's served in a very narrow room 2m or so and everyone is having to move around everyone else and the small tables, breakfast staff don't seem happy. Despite the nice guy who checked us in every time we entered or left the hotel reception staff didn't speak or make eye contact. Then the building work which started early morning. Nice plunge pool and terrace area. Just a bit disappointed was expecting more.

Great value for money. Excellent stay. The hotel stands out for its quality, comfort and cleanliness, surpassing other local hotels in the same price range. The staff are very polite, accommodating and courteous. The rooms are generously sized, perfectly clean, and well-equipped. Guests can enjoy a minibar, along with complimentary coffee and tea. The beds provide excellent comfort, and the air conditioning functions flawlessly. I will return.

We stayed for two nights, one of which we ate in the hotel. The food was excellent and the staff friendly. Our room was substantial , almost a small apartment, with a great view of the quaint neighbourhood. This will be our first choice when travelling back to Montevideo
