The staff who help me to get a room at last minute and late on the evening was awesome, but the rest of the staff looks not very helpful either very smiling. The place itself is unfortunately poor: rooms are very small and warm without enough space for everyone, no reading lights, no plug close of the bed. Bathrooms were very dirty: in the evening and still in the morning. For the price I paid, it's a bit ridiculous. I went in many hostels in different countries and this is the worse. I do not recommended it except if like me everything else is booked and if this case, just one night.

Nice enough place, but can be very noisy since its right next to a club. It could do with a renovation, it looks a bit run down. Bed was good, but the dorm I was in was an ensuite room with 17 people or so sleeping in not a lot of space. This meant windows had to be open (smell and wet towels) which was not pleasant during winter. You get what you pay for, the staff was pretty nice too.

I stayed for a week in here and it is a good place. Some weird things happen in the kitchen (for example, a friend of mine having “fun” in there... something crazy because there are cameras everywhere and staffs could check on the CCTV, but she didn’t mind) and rooms sometimes smell like cheese, but it is cheap and a great place to meet people. When I was there, there used to have a man falling asleep on a couch all the time, I hope he is fine.

A really nice place. Cheap, cozy and quiet. Very strict policy of no food and loud noise in room, so not a perfect spot for party people, but suitable for people who need a quiet, comfortable and cozy time. Clean and tidy environment, I stay here for two nights and I walk on the floor for three days with my bare feet. Nothing slimy or gross on the floor, it's always clean. Staffs are really nice, polite and friendly. The only flaw is the smell in rooms, but I won't blame staffs, the smells usually come from smelly socks/feet or humid clothe/shoes from travellers. Meh.

Every staff member I met was incredibly friendly and helpful. I had accidentally booked the wrong room on the wrong date even and needed a place to stay for the night and the manager ended up finding the last bed for me and calling me back, personally working the situation out so I wouldn't be without accommodation. She also did not charge me the fee she could have due to the last minute change and cancellation. It was very clean, comfortable, with lots of things to do in the common areas, very nice kitchen and places to secure valuables. I would absolutely stay here again without question!! Thank you Backpackers!

Absolutely disgusted by the way I was treated there. I am not from Oxford, I am a university student, I have found myself tight for money in the past and have been in bad situations. One time I stumbled into here after having been brutally wounded in an altercation, I was in pain and cold and tired my face was swollen and I was 5 hours from home with just enough money to get a hostle. The bearded man who works there declined me from the hostle. I found myself with no other options and was left to the streets as I had no phone and was left in the freezing cold and no where to go. I should have never returned but with an option to book online months later with my face recovered, I decided to give it another chance and stay here as it is cheap and I was desperate for a place to stay. It says no noise in the corridor past 10 o'clock, I assume this was due to people working, I respected that and was relaxing in the common room and only going in to the corridor to go to the bathroom or to go to my room. At 12 o'clock one of the members of staff with long brown hair who checked me in decided to come out of another member of staffs room giggling and laughing and then proceeded to fart loudly in my direction just as I was about to enter my room. I told him exactly what I thought of this which is that this was disgusting. He and 2 other members of staff then proceeded to shout at me and tell me I was wrong to comment on this. I decided to let go of this and focus on work the next day. I went to work and came back. I sat on the computer to try and sort my payment and there were two inhabitants sat next to me talking to me distracting my focus. I did not even manage to sort my pay early so I have had to wait a whole other week. It is not nice to stay in somewhere like this it degrades the quality of an experience when there is always people smoking cigarettes as you come in to the front door entrance, I commented on this, and he proceeded to tell me not to speak and that he didn't care about what I had to stay and that he thought I was weird and stupid. The bald guy then starts to get a pump on or something and looks like at me like some psyco with his eyes wide and veins popping looking like he wanted a fight as I made another entrance into the common room to get my clean clothes. These clean clothes are about the only positive experience I have of being at the hostle but even so I was told that they would be dried and outside my door ready for me in the morning but I actually had to go in and get them myself, regardless of this she seemed to be doing all the work, cleaning etc from what I saw I didn't see any of the lads helping her so I don't hold this against her as she was probably very tired. The other girl was nice to me too but she might of just been a customer Customer first but in this case I was put last and I actually had to leave early because I could not bare to stay another day. It was also supposed to be mixed dorms to balance the male and female energy which makes sense to me but I was shoved in a room with 3 men which is never nice especially not as a full grown adult. I don't know what else to say other than thank you to the 2 girls who were in there that saved me from completely losing my cool. Luckily I am sober and I have learned not to react in this situation and instead give a review of the exact events online so the public can see. Ontop of this I was told by someone there was exposed asbestos In the toilets which made me feel sick to the bone that no one had informed me before I started my stay and this was was the final straw for me, I packed my bags and left, having one of the worst experience anywhere in the world. Honestly I'm still recovering a week later.

I really enjoyed staying here. The rate is cheap for a hostel which includes a free breakfast. The staff are friendly and helpful. It has clean shower-rooms and clean toilets as well. It is close to bus station, and it has a strategic location to many interesting spots in Oxford. Although the bed sheet was thin but it’s no biggie for me. I still had a nice stay here.

I had a great stay and was very comfortable. This is definitely a sociable hostel and was very friendly. Rooms had maybe 8 beds in them, common washroom had several shower stalls and was shared and gender segregated. They also rent towels.

Yelp
I've stayed in better hostels, but I've also definitely stayed in worse. Oxford Back Packers, the "funky hostel," is located near both Gloucester Green bus station and the rail station, and is also not too far of a walk from the city centre, so it's pretty convenient. The rooms were okay, not spotless, but not too gross... although, my travel buddy was a little suspicious that her sheets hadn't been washed. The beds weren't very comfortable, but really, what hostel beds are? The bathrooms weren't too bad - there was some hot water, and the loos as a whole weren't too dirty. The staff weren't overly friendly, but they also weren't rude, and tended to be available if people had questions. We didn't try out the bar/common area, but it seemed popular with the other guests. Basically, a "meh" experience overall. Certainly cheaper than a B&B, but not the most enjoyable place to stay. Bonus points for their creativity with decorations.
