We really enjoyed our stay at Oyado Kinkiyu! Very charming, retro hotel with an interesting history and an extensive natural onsen complex. Great place to base yourself for a variety of activities in the area. Really appreciated the complementary local sake tasting in the evening too, delicious!

Came here during summer and wanted to enjoy the Kawayu onsen town. I booked this place, hotel stated that there is air conditioning in their rooms. When I checked in, they informed us that the hotel has NO air conditioning in the building. I tried to make do, opened the windows and was greeted with a wave of flies that entered our room. We were only provided with a pathetic small fan. WIFI was supposed to be working, but there was no WIFI at all. Toilet vent was not working as well, so it was very humid after showering. Laundry area was located in a shady corner of the hotel, with construction beside. It’s not possible to come out of the laundry room without being dusty. Hotel is being dishonest in the information provided. Please do not book this hotel. It was a very unpleasant and uncomfortable experience.

Staying at the hotel in the winter is a different experience. Using the onsen is extra special when snowing as they have an outdoor as well as an indoor onsen. The restaurant is okay, and the rooms are generally nice. The hotel is in the middle of its small town, and everything is easily walkabout. Overall, a nice stay.

A relaxing and quiet place for resting, Good hot spring cozy place. Rooms look too old but clean. Parking available around the hotel. Coin laundry available 2 washer and 2 dryer. Visits for only hot springs are available.

I booked a room WITH air conditioning, but upon checking in, we found out there was NO air conditioning in the room. We asked the front desk, and they told us, we only have 2 rooms with air conditioning. The WHOLE HOTEL was WITHOUT air conditioning. We tried to make do and opened the window so that there’s some ventilation. Flies and bugs started to come into the room! So the room was very hot, and there were insects in the room. Totally not possible to open the windows at all. WIFI was supposed to be working, but it was NOT WORKING. So there was NO WIFI in the room.Hotel is being dishonest on the Trip.com as it stated that the rooms are WITH air conditioning. This has misled me and other guests (there were similar complaints!) into booking this hotel. This is an outright scam and lie. Hotel even had the audacity to suggest to us to ‘rent an extra fan’ so that it’s ’not too hot’. Please do not book with this hotel in the summer if you want to have an unpleasant experience.

It's advisable to be aware that this hotel belongs to the Japanese tradition of ryokan. According to this tradition, it's equipped not with Western-style beds, but with tatami (mattresses), placed directly on the floor, with its own sheets, pillows and pillowcases, and the obligation to remove shoes into the rooms is particularly strict.|The hotel is located in the heart of the town. But thanks to its rural character, this doesn't imply in any way crowds or noisy streets.|Like many hotels in Japan, the structure is equipped with an onsen (thermal bath) directly in the basement of the building. We also used this service, having a fully positive experience, on the only evening we spent here; however, I didn't use also the open-air tubs, while my wife did.|Overall, we recommend this hotel.

Nice spacious lobby, very seamless check-in, reception had a decent command of English, a lot better than my Japanese. |Rooms were traditional Japanese tatami, though this gave full sized mattresses. Rooms are clean, however showing much it's age, peeling wall paper/ceiling, worn vanish on wood and leaky faucet. I guess the rooms is comfy enough for night's stay. |Not exactly budget price either, JPN 40,200 for two rooms one night.|Sink or basin really low like for a child and the door way low too.

Very relaxing experience once you’re actually in the baths. The receptionist didn’t offer/mention towel rentals, so I was stranded in the changing area trying to dry myself off with my own clothes so I could go out to rent the towels for my family and myself. Korean bathhouses always provided them, so I didn’t think to ask. Luckily everything ended up drying off quickly. All of that could have been avoided had the guy cared to offer them.
