Oyado Yamakyu

We stayed one night at this hotel. This hotel is a traditional Japanese style, it is very cozy and traditional. The room is spacious, dinner and breakfast are traditional Japanese style and so delicious. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. We love it and will be back again.

We started with free pick up from the train/bus station. Everyone was SO friendly and helpful. Decent amount of English spoken. We stayed two nights - the dinners were excellent! Breakfast was plentiful. The rooms were comfortable with good AC. The Onsen is hot - but great. It is traditional bedding - not the most comfortable bed in the world but enjoyed our stay none the less. Great location on the edge of town and in front of the temples.

What a wonderful way to experience a bit of Japanese culture. When we arrived, we enjoyed tea in our tatami room before heading out to explore the wonderful historic district. We returned to a delicious, multi-course dinner, enjoying foods we'd had before and some new to us. Breakfast too was bountiful and tasty. The staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. We hated to leave!

I stayed at the hotel for one night in October, and the experience was exceptional. The reception staff were extraordinarily polite and friendly, and I even received my room earlier than the check-in time. The onsen was convenient and relaxing, and my room was spotless. The highlight of my stay was the fantastic kaiseki dinner and the delicious breakfast. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again on my next visit!

We stayed here for 2 nights and had the most amazing time. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The food was really special and the onsen thoroughly relaxing. If you’re looking for an authentic, down to earth ryoken experience, I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Amazing traditional ryokan. The room was nice, clean and warm (I visited in winter). The staff was very nice and mostly spoke good English. The Japanese-style dinner and breakfast were delicious. In the room you get your own private toilet and sink, to wash yourself you can either use a separate shower room (which is shared, but single-occupancy and lockable) or use the traditional sitting showers in the onsen. The onsen itself includes both indoor and outdoor tubs. A yukata as well as towels were provided. They also told me you can reserve a shuttle service to and from the station, but unfortunately I didn't know this beforehand. Overall amazing value and great choice for a ryokan in Takayama.

This place absolutely exceeded our expectations! Every meal was stunning, and the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We took our students for a two-night stay, and it easily stands out as the best accommodation we've experienced on school trips in the past 10 years. We will definitely be coming back if we need accommodation again! 最高の旅館でした！！！ (This is the same in Japanese, meaning "It was the best accommodation!").

The hidden jem in heart of Takayama with great hospitality and super yummy local cuisine. Wonderful owner couple and friendly stuffs welcomes us always. I've felt another home. Highly reccommend.
