Hoshino Resorts Opens New Hotel, Lucy, in Japan - AFAR

"This high-altitude marshland and mountain park on Honshu covers roughly 92,000 acres and is ringed by verdant slopes and an extinct volcano; it lies about 100 miles northwest of Tokyo and spans four prefectures (Fukushima, Tochigi, Gunma, and Niigata). Known for gentle terrain that suits hikers of varying abilities, the park features extensive trailheads, seasonal wildflower displays (June is especially recommended) and shuttle connections from nearby lodgings to deeper trails. The area retains cultural history as a site where yamabushi practitioners of Shugendō once stayed in intentionally austere communal huts, a legacy acknowledged by newer, more comfortable alpine accommodations. The main visitor season runs into autumn before winter closures." - Olivia Young

Perfect place for day hiking 🥾. The place is also very beautiful and surrounded by mountains 🌄, best place for family also.

It is really nice place for hiking! I went there at August but it wasn’t too hot. You can take a lot of good pictures here and enjoy the nature. You can also select stay log cabins in the park. We were not able to do it because they were all full booking. If you are interested and have enough time, highly recommended!

‘Twas a great experience to trek Ozegahara on the first day and hike Mt. Shibutsu on the second day. Both my 2nd time trekking and hiking.⛰️🎌🗾🥰

Amazing place, the trees, the water, the fresh air, the lovely animals, and the amazing stars. I went there after a rainy day, the whole national park is like being refreshed. But we failed to get to the top of the highest mountain because the road is way too muddy.

Enjoying a mountain trekking throughout the Oze marshland under clear blue sky. There are a bunch of beautiful grasses at The height of the fall foliage. Oze is the largest marshland in Japan. It is surrounded by three prefectures: Fukushima, Tochigi, and Gunma.

It’s a beautiful place but they charge us too much just for parking, round trip bus ride between Oze and the bus stop. 2 ppl with a car for a day trip = 5000 yen. Will probably stay in one of those mountain hunts next time I’m here. Overall, Oze was an incredibly beautiful spot where you can really enjoy the feeling of the nature and feel zen.

Good place for weekend, near tokyo. If you go with your family, do not try in rainy day

We walked 40km for the 2.5 days stayed in the national park. Beautiful and well-preserved nature. Impressed by the fact that everyone really carried back their each single pieces of garbages. You cannot use shampoo, tooth paste nor soap in the park in order to help to preserve water quality, which was the only pain point for the 3 days trip.

Yelp
Oze National Park covers Ozegahara, Japan's largest highland marsh, as well as Oze-numa, Ayame-daira. Mt. Shibutsu, Mt. Hiuchi-gatake and other distinctive natural habitats. Oze is exceedingly popular among mountain climbers, trekkers and hobbyist photographers for the abundance of alpine plants and beauty of the majestic mountain range. The symbol of Oze is the wooden walkway that stretches over 57 kilometers through the marsh, offering comfort hiking while protecting invaluable natural resources. The marsh, mountains, pools and small isles--all show their beauty in colors in autumn. In particular, the grasses and shrubs that turn color during the season are distinctive of autumn in Oze and a must-see. The Ozegahara Marshland, located about 1400 meters above sea level, is the most popular area of the park. It's about six kilometers long and one kilometer wide, and has hundreds of small, distinct pools. When walking the length of the marshland, the two mountains seem to hover over hikers at either end of the paths. The Hatomachitoge trailhead is only a one hour walk from the western end of the marshlands, and therefore the most popular among the trailheads. The most famous image of Oze in Japanese peoples is of the white skunk cabbages in bloom all across Ozegahara in late May and early June. The marshland also becomes very attractive in late July and early August when the yellow alpine lilies are in bloom and during the autumn colors in late September and early October when the grasses of the marshland turn bright yellow and red. -Access to Oze from Tokyo. There are two main approaches to Oze National Park. one from the south through Guma Prefecture and one from the north through Fukushima Prefecture. For visitors coming from Tokyo, the approach through Guma Prefecture is much more convenient. From Tokyo via Gunma Prefecture There are three major trailheads on the Gunma side of Oze; Most popular is the Hatomachitoge trailhead because of its proximity because of its proximity to the marshland, a one hour walk away. The road to Hatomachitoge is closed to private vehicles during the peak seasons (daily from late May through July and from mid September to mid October and on weekends during August and the first half of September). Shuttle buses operate to Hatomachitoge from Oze Tokura(930 yen one way), where there are several large parking lots and bus connections from Numata and Tokyo. No public transportation is provided to Hatomachitoge outside of the above mentioned peak seasons.
