O’Zone Pizza Pub – Pensacola, Florida - Gastro Obscura

"While visiting Pensacola, Florida, you might find yourself driving through a shadowy tunnel of oak trees, headed for what was once Sacred Heart Hospital. As you cruise down 12th Avenue, you’ll notice the looming structure of sandy gray stone, now known as Tower East. Built in 1915, the late Gothic revival building looks more like a castle than a medical facility. After the hospital relocated to another site in 1965, the building has become the home of small businesses, a pizza parlor,  a school (Pensacola School of Liberal Arts) and, according to local rumors, a few ghosts. Housed in the basement, O’Zone Pizza Pub has an old-school charm that differs from your average neighborhood joint. But it’s not just the ambience that draws in ghosts—ahem, guests. There’s a large craft beer menu as well as classic and unique pies. The Ponderosa Stomp, for example, comes with cheddar, barbecue sauce, chicken, bacon, green pepper, diced onion, and honey, with the option of adding cream cheese and jalapeños. After eating, visitors can explore other parts of the former hospital. The first three floors are open to the public and house display cases filled with antique medical equipment and other curiosities. Black-and-white pictures of nuns in a chapel and surgical rooms hang on the walls, along with an eclectic mix of huge, spooky paintings. Know Before You Go If you're heading to O'Zone for dinner, be sure to check out the other areas of the former hospital first. The public areas of the building are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Remember, the upper floors, where there's no electricity and the walls are crumbling, is closed to the public. Ghost-hunters and thrill-seekers: Should you head up there, the family who owns the building might call the police." - mdw12053, delabelladesigns, HelloKaraWoodson

Gluten free crust is very good. Not rock hard but airy & crispy. It was cooked perfectly and the gluten free cheese bread (same crust) was delightful with the garlic butter. Carry out was a 10min wait but it was fresh fresh! Will definitely order again.

This place is Phenomenal! Absolutely Loved 💯 the Meatlovers Pie! The peach tea was delicious. Our waiter was Amazing! We sat in a side room with 3 young kids. I highly recommend this Pizza place and definitely will eat here again. It was thin crust and cooked to Perfection

Google
You ask Pensacola locals what the best pizza in town is, and O'Zone is sure to at least come up in the conversation. Close to being a city institution, this place is located inside an abandoned mental hospital, or something like that. Either way, the vibe is dark and cool, almost speak-easy like. And there's groovy artwork all over the walls and stuff. Very cool. Service was good. They let us move chairs around to accommodate our party size. Nice fella. The pizza itself was phenomenal. I hadn't had it in over a decade, so back then I was a literal child. Now that I've seen some stuff, I recognized the great pizza here. That, or they upgraded their recipe in the past 10 years or so. Either way. As for the pies, we ordered the Ponderosa Stomp and the Carnivore for the table. Both were very good. The sweet heat of the honey and the jalapeno just lovely, and the addition of the cream cheese, that traditionally pairs well with both those things, was just lovely. And the Carnivore was pretty good, too. It had a good array of meats, and not too meaty, just meaty enough. A nice pie. Overall, an excellent evening meal. Great pizza, great friends, and a new place for me to frequent when I come back home to visit.

Google
The pita bread that came with the hummus was addicting and the pizza was great!! We got the pub pizza and nutty idea! The nutty idea was highly recommended to me by a colleague and I don’t regret getting it at all! The cashews give such a nice crunch and it tastes really good with the toppings. I like more veggies on my pizzas, so I would probably add some more veg to the original pie!

Google
Casual and noisy but a fun place to grab a pizza. Good food too!

Google
The pizza was edible. Not much flavor. The crust was very blah. The price for 1 large pizza, 1 Sprite and a side salad was $40. The service was okay. They serve can drinks so no refills. The best part of the restaurant is that it is an old hospital and has cool artifacts in the halls.

Google
The pizza is INCREDIBLE. My bf is a local and had been raving about pizza from other popular places, but I thought the pizza here was WAY better than any other local place. The vibe is chill. I think pizza pub is a perfect descriptor. There is also a nice gelato place in the same building so if you want a chill night with friends, it’s a perfect place to go.

Google
It had been about 10 years since the last time I went here, but on my recent visit to I was very impressed! The spinach and artichoke dip was amazing. Our pizzas had the perfect crust! I highly recommend it! It’s just as good as I remember when I was a teen.

Yelp
Unique location the basement of an abandoned hospital - took us years to come here, we'll be back when visitors are in town. Service was fantastic, pizza was really good, but the crust was burned - served without comment. Might have still hit 5-stars except they only have canned Coke products. I'm not looking for a $$ single can of Coke. You can go out the back door of the dining area to explore the old hospital's first few floors. I was hoping for a little more with that - mostly offices and yoga studios. The enterance to Ozone's is tucked back in the left side of the hospital under a vine covered entrance way. It's not marked well (vines over the sign), so look hard.

Before eating, we explored other parts of the former hospital. The first three floors are open to the public and house display cases filled with antique medical equipment and other curiosities. The inside was a let down but the outside definitely made up for it. Now on to the pizza. Housed in the basement, O'Zone Pizza Pub has a bar like feel. We chose to be seated in a corridor seating as the bar area was blasting with music and we could hardly hear a thing. We ordered mushroom pizza with half pepperoni. Waitress was patient, helpful and efficient. I'm always super grateful for good service now a days it is so hard to find!! Pizza was responsibly priced. No surcharges. For us this was a one time visit. If you haven't been it'd be worth it just for the experience.

Yelp
This place is AWESOME!! Everything from the atmosphere to the food to awesome staff. The pizza was fantastic a thin yet crispy crust with light airy outer edge. The fresh toppings & house made pesto were delicious!! The double hearts on draft was a new try for me & I highly recommend it if you enjoy a good IPA! I will definitely go again & recommend to anyone I know visiting the area!!

Yelp
I attempted to called 3 times to get an order for pick up. Left 1 message with callback #. No one answered, no one called back. So, I made the drive to order and pick up (5 miles) Placed the order, also asked them about telephone orders "ohh I must have been on the phone" On the the pizza and meatballs. The italian pizza was pretty good, the meatballs were dry and very dense.

Yelp
Enjoyed DELICIOUS gluten free pizza last night. Unfortunately they have moved their dining room to a new space in the building. Their new dining room is so LOUD!! There were 10 people in our party and we were basically yelling in order to converse. The ambiance is zero. Again the food was delicious and Kendrick did a great job providing service but the atmosphere was a zero.

Yelp
First of all the pizza is delicious, however since they didn't have anything good that was non-alcoholic to drink (not laden in sugar) we ordered water which was the most disgusting tap water we have had in a long time. I hope they aren't making the pizza with this water. I'm going to assume they don't since the pizza is so good, but dang give folks some good water to drink if you're not going to sell kombucha or a good NA beer. The reason for my 4 star review is two fold: the water sucks & it took WAY LONGER than it should have to get a small pizza. My suggestion: offer a few more drink options for those of us who don't drink booze, bleach water or sugar drinks & if your customers ask for a lemon make sure to bring them lemon or heck just bring them lemon anyway to mask the terrible bleach/dirty pipe smelling water. And even better idea is to filter your water.

Yelp
I still consider myself still new to town. This place popped up when I searched for a new pizza place to try. It's not pizza They call it a pie. Its an unordinary kind of pie. The nutty pie consists of pepperonis, ham, slices of tomatoes, cream cheese and cashews. The pie is not thick or hand tossed its almost like a thin crust but not really thin. What?! I know it sounds weird but the flavor works. Our server is great! Lots of parking. You wait to get seated. They have this corner door that goes to a hallway that connects to a gelato/coffee place. You can try that too while waiting. They will list your name and look for you inside the building when the table is ready. They will let you know that you can't go outside the building while waiting. Plates are paper plates, cups are plastic unless you order alcohol drinks. Sodas are in cans and not refillable for sure. The displays are random, kinda dark in the room, gave me a little chills. My hubby liked the pie and the experience. He mentioned it was randomly weird maybe coz its the old hospital. But we're definitely going back.

Yelp
Awesome place! Great service and pizza is AMAZING! They have unique pizzas and also a great GF crust!

Marsha M.

Yelp
Very consistent excellent food with extremely good quality ingredients. I have always received good service at Ozone. It is noisy, but not enough to keep me away.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I love how it's in the old Sacred Heart hospital building. It just gives that history feeling. And of course The food & the drinks are always great!! Lol
google avatar

Bri M.

Yelp
Overall this was such an amazing experience!! As we walked in the door the staff were very friendly, and from the jump the ambiance was incredible. Our server was friendly, helpful, and quick. The food itself was absolutely fantastic, as were the drinks! Everything was brought out relatively quickly, and it tasted absolutely amazing. Definitely will be going again!!

Tim C.

Yelp
Most pizza places are average at best. O'Zone is slightly above average. What makes them a cut above is their staff. Wayne and Jace, I hope I got the names right. These guy are on their game. Attentive and accommodating. The pizza need a bit more sauce. I'll be back.

Michael C.

Yelp
The pizza was cold and tasted bland the 2 times we have tried it... until a neighbor tells us that it has improved , we shall continue to go to East Hill Pizza.
google avatar

Brenda C.

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere, along within an intriguing history. The service was superb as well. Pizza was delicious.

Jo S.

Yelp
This pizza was so incredibly delicious!!!! Ordered takeout which was ready quickly in about 30 minutes, accurate order and made fresh to order. Definitely recommend them :)
google avatar

Toni C.

Yelp
A little underwhelming by the pub pizza. We have gotten it in the past and this time it seemed lacking in the usual quality

Joseph J.

Yelp
Very friendly staff and great tasting food delivered in a fun, family friendly environment.
google avatar

Shea G.

Yelp
Ok this is a very unique place. It's in an old hospital. But the food was a little less desirable. I always look for a local pizza place and hoped I had found it. But I was not very impressed. Plus the can drinks were pricey and they charge for everyone they bring out. Which I can understand, just used to free refills. We didn't hate it, but it wasn't my favorite.
google avatar

Katlyn B.

Yelp
Great little pizza joint! Creepy looking exterior (old hospital), but cozy inside. Nice bar top and lots of seating inside. Even an arcade game to enjoy! Our server was great and the food was yummy! Decent price for what you get. Highly recommend!

Yelp
To go pepperoni X cheese pizza was not good at all. Bland and undercooked. I've always liked Ozone for a pizza place for a group but the pizza seems to have gotten worse. Sorry ozone.
google avatar

Alejandro B.

Yelp
Keep stroking ozone. Short staff currently, busy dinner hours, but always on point. My kids, wife and I have seen this place pre-COVID and post-COVID and the staff continues to keep it up. I hope people coming to Ozone noticed that they really are trying and I will continue to support this local establishment.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. Old building is pretty cool. The brew selections were great. But the pizza, WOW, it was delicious. Will be making this one of my regular places for sure.
google avatar

Laurena M.

Yelp
The ponderosa stomp is as delicious as ever! One of our favorite pizzas in Pensacola. A great spot for takeout or dine in.

LI B.

Yelp
Second time after the big C19 lockdown. Craving our favorite pizza. Ugh, shucks, ratz. What happened to the crust? I'm so sorry but it tastes like store bought & not a good one. Maybe menu changed & less staff to make the dough. Truly disappointed.

Yelp
We have been to O'Zone Pizza a few times now. A great place to enjoy pizza eating in - great atmosphere and great service.

Yelp
Review Time: O'zone Pizza Pub I used to love coming to this pizzeria when I lived on this side of town. After all who doesn't love this history and original decor of this old Sacred Heart Hospital. It has been well over a few years since I've been here, so I'm hoping it's as good as it used to be. Absolutely love the vibe and the service of this pizza pub, but I would definitely say this is not your stereotypical pizza crust here. I also don't remember the garlic cheese bread being like this previously, but it was still very good. It was basically a mini pizza with marinara on the side. The cheese bread had just the perfect amount of garlic seasoning; and the marinara here is pretty tasty as well. We decided to try the carnivore pizza, which had delicious sliced meatballs, pepperoni, sausage, and bacon. So if you are a person who likes a heartier outer crust, then this might not be the pizza for you. I overall really enjoyed the pizza. I loved how the crust was nice and crispy when it first came out. But even after setting for a few minutes it was still very firm, which allowed all of toppings to stay on top of your pizza. Overall review: service (5/5) and food (4/5) the only reason why the food isn't a 5/5 is because this just isn't a pizza that knocked all of the competition we have locally out of the park. But it was a nice change of pace and the atmosphere just feels so relaxed and welcoming....definitely have plans to return just not sure when...

Bubba S.

Yelp
Great pizza, great beer, great place. Very cool vibe and excellent American bar style pizza. This is the kind of place at which one gladly becomes a regular.
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Pizza was expensive and unimpressive. Crust was tough and dry. Toppings looked cheap. I'd compare it to grocery store frozen pizza. I hope they improve their pizza, I'll give them another in a couple of months. The salad was good.

Yelp
This is Pensacola's local pizza joint that everyone loves. Apparently, this establishment used to be a hospital. Kinda creepy for sure.. go to the bathroom and you know what I mean. I'm definitely not using the restrooms next time! Hahah. This place is pretty big. Got tons of seatings and tables. Could probably accommodate big parties, but there might be a wait. Parking can be a little hassle, but I'm sure you can find one within minutes. I've honestly only came here twice with the same and he always ordered the pizza for us! So while I don't know the name, I can definitely describe it! It had the following toppings: Chicken Bacon Jalapeño Cream Cheese Honey The crust on the pizza is good. Nice little crisp and not too dense. But with the honey drizzle!!!! So delicious! I usually don't eat my crust since I get full easily, but I didn't want to waste that tastiness! Very delicious. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Drooling just thinking about the ponderosa stomp. Vegan options for my boyfriend, so everyone's happy. He did a build your own. Their list has basically everything you could want. Of course it gets a little pricey the more you add. Vegan cheese was tapioca based (and pretty darn good) so the rare nut-allergic vegans are in the clear. Thursday night is ladies night with $3 wine and $3.50 personal pan pizza -- which is really all I need in life. The kitchen works HARD to deliver us these delicious pies, so reasonably no substitutions. For me it was a no brainer to add the jalapeños and cream cheese to the ponderosa stomp. I had a small ALL to myself and ate the whole thing, a feat I'm proud of. No official outdoor seating so not dog friendly last time I was there. You can order a pizza to go and sit nearby at a few picnic tables. Consider a reservation before you go!
google avatar

Cassidy B.

Yelp
This joint is kinda in the cut. Looks adorable from the outside. Was much bigger and busier than I expected! The menu has tons of options to include vegan cheese! Which is everything to me. The only reason it's not 5 stars from me is, our order got lost in translation. We waited a while before our waiter noticed it had taken too long and checked on it, to find out that our pizzas hadn't been made yet. Jordan, our waiter took care of this manner very kindly. He explained what happened and our meals were free. The pizza was delicious when it came out. And the issue was rectified in the correct manner. Accidents happen but I it's all about how you problem solve and take care of your customers! I will definitely go back! The pizza was great and wonderful service.
google avatar

Dinah W.

Yelp
Good option for gluten free pizza. GF option only comes in the small (probably 10") crust, but you can substitute it for any of their specialty pizzas or create your own. The crust was a little too soft, but I prefer that to being too hard/crispy like most GF crusts usually are. It was busy while I was there, but I got seated right away. It's located in an old hospital, so it isn't in an obvious location, but it was only a few minutes drive from the downtown Pensacola area. I'd go back!
google avatar

Austin O.

Yelp
For the first time ever in the 5 years I have been in Pensacola, I arrived at O'zones and was told it would be a 45 minute wait for a table for 2. Right in front of me alone, there are 3 empty tables, with no one. Apparently, they will not seat a party of 2 on a table for 4 on Mondays. In fact the 2 tables are in the main room, I have not check the other rooms. In fact 2 customers just walked out for the same reason. What ever happened to good customer service in Pensacola! For me, it's my last time here! Too bad when business get comfortable enough to let patrons walk out

Cody P.

Yelp
Would rate .5 stars but the scale doesn't go low enough, terrible pizza; dough is hard as a rock sauce is absolutely flavorless and the cheese tasted like nothing. No bs you would be better off with a frozen pizza
google avatar

Marie L.

Yelp
We came here right after arriving in Pensacola for a visit based on Yelp reviews. Service was very friendly and attentive. We loved the pizza, especially the crust was perfect. We ordered the carnivore and the one with cream cheese, jalapeños, and chicken. I forgot the name of it but it was very good. We would definitely become regulars if we were locals.

Michelle P.

Yelp
Picked up a pizza- toppings missing. Once home called to speak to someone and waited over 46 minutes on hold because someone answered their phone and put it down asking me to wait a minute. Will never go back.
google avatar

Dustin T.

Yelp
We try pizza joints everytime we travel. This was is worth the drive to Pensacola (90 miles) just to get an Ozone Pizza. First time here, will not be the last
google avatar

Jacob H.

Yelp
Historically, I've always enjoyed this placed. That all changed a few days ago. Takeout only( which is fine due to our current social distancing), but after calling 3 times during business hours and getting no one, I finally left a message and asked for a call back... no call back. Called two more times. Finally got Nicole? Who in mid sentence laid the phone down. No, " could you hold one moment ". Nope, just laid the phone down while she took other orders, chatted, etc. so, went down there.... Nobody cared. Was told we don't listen to the messages and call back. Then WHY do you have an answering machine?! What's funny is on a local Facebook page they are complaining about maybe having to shut their doors....Wonder why?!

Katie E.

Yelp
Service was great, atmosphere is cool.. pizza tastes like it came from a hospital. No flavor whatsoever.

Joel K.

Yelp
Big fan of the 20 oz pours on their draft beer. Downside is that there's nothing really worth getting. The menu mentioned that the crust can vary between thin crust and pan pizza. Pizza fans probably already know that this is a pretty huge margin that can make or break a pizza depending on which one you prefer. Unfortunately we were unlucky and got thin crust, which was so thin that it cracked like a saltine if you folded it at all. Some people may like that. I hate it. The upside is that the toppings and sauce were good, but I'm not going to come back and make the gamble again.
google avatar

Jessie M.

Yelp
Great pizza- even better salad! I really loved everything I tried here. My date and I split the meat balls to start. Delicious and full of flavor! Then we split the beet salad and the Italian flag pizza. I love beet salad, and this one was exceptional! Even my date who is not a big fan enjoyed this. Then the pizza, very cute design and very good flavor. I would highly recommend this place. I can't wait to come back !
google avatar

Kyle A.

Yelp
A salad with a great lettuce mix and a honey vin-egret dressing. We also had spaghetti and a no sauce (olive oil) pizza with tomatoes and basil. Great basil flavor on both. Highly recommend and cool atmosphere too!
google avatar

Angela C.

Yelp
Just ok. Went in middle of afternoon with place empty and it took forever to get pizzas out. When pizzas were delivered out to table, they were over cooked in my opinion. 4 kids didn't want to wait for them to be remade, so they just ate everything but the crust. Not sure I'll be itching to go back anytime soon.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
This had been my favorite place in Pensacola pre-COVID. I don't know what happened - new ownership, higher overhead, lost revenue, or what - but it's just lost its attraction for us altogether. They severely reduced their menu for some reason, removing all of our favorite items (like the calzones), and their draft beer selection, formerly one of the best and most diverse in town, is just bare-bones now. The pizza and apps that they do have are fine, but not enough to make the drive anymore when there are better options elsewhere in town. I truly hope they fix whatever the problems are, because I miss when O'Zone was good.

Jeanne T.

Yelp
We wanted pizza for dinner so we tried Ozone. The crust was grainy but the ingredients were good. We took issue with the options, mostly pizza sizes. I might give them another shot, but my family won't.
google avatar

Bobby G.

Yelp
Skip this place. Hard to find --- no clear signs from the road. In a dark parking lot. The music and the high ceilings make it very hard to hear conversation. The pizza tastes like it was made from frozen. Also -- no brewed iced tea. This place needs improvement.
google avatar

Liz M.

Yelp
Such a great pizza place. The quality of the pizza is excellent, with crispy and chewy crust, fresh toppings and flavorful sauce. The service is fantastic, quick and friendly. The atmosphere is super chill and cool, being in the lower level basement area of an old hospital in East Hill! Highly recommended!
google avatar

Heather C.

Yelp
This has become our Pensacola stop when we pass through town headed to/from vacation. O'zone is located in the basement of Old Sacred Heart hospital. You have to search for the entrance, but you'll be glad you did! The garlic cheese bread is thick, gooey, and garlicky. Just perfect. The marinara is a little sweet but a great complement to the bread and the spaghetti (one daughter's order). We also had a personal pizza for the other daughter and husband and I split a Pub Pie. He chose a blueberry flavored beer from their extensive list of craft beers, cocktails, whiskeys, and bourbons. You won't regret this stop!
google avatar

Dave B.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza and great beer selection. Who would think cashews would be good on a pizza, well I do know. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly Recommended.
