This museum is really cool! It covers a lot of the history around Newport and its ocean-related professions. From fishing, to shipwrecks, to the history of the building known as Smuggler's Cove, they have it all! They also have some neat exhibits that they change every 4 months or so. Admission is only 10 bucks for adults and you can easily spend a few hours in the museum; especially in their theater where you get to choose which history-related video the projector will play!

This was a pretty cool stop. We've been to Newport several times and never made it here so this time I made it a point. Glad I did. We spent about an hour and a half checking out the exhibits and some of the films available. The theater has a selection screen to choose from among 15 different movies - we only watched 2 but they were both good. Displays and information are heavily focused on the history of the local fishing industry with lots of great information. Probably not super engaging for littles but older kids (decent readers) can probably get a lot out of this museum

A relatively undiscovered gem in the middle of the busy Marina tourist area. A set-your- own-pace museum about the history of the fishing and logging history here. Very nice theater with dozens of video clips to choose from to watch. Definitely worth the $10 admission fee!

Not the biggest place ever, but they use the space extremely well! The little knot tying is super fun and it brings me back to my navy days when I was here! Good fun and fairly priced for the experience.

Joyce was very friendly & informative. The 2nd floor is available for events with a modest rental fee. The basement is still under construction. The deck (all floors actually) have wonderfully stunning views. They have a good interactive corner for kids where they can touch things & it's ok! Lol as a parent, this is always wonderful in a museum. The visit can be as quick or slow & laid back as desired. Do only see myself returning for an event or special showcase/display though.

Once we found the museum, was very impressed! The lady at the counter was super helpful and knowledgeable! We found the museum to be full of a lot of local historical items. AND the two Art displays were also fantastic. Definitely coming back!!

Down the street from all the chaos on the bayfront. Only 5 bucks to get in. So informative. Amazing artifacts. Beautiful building. Nice people. Souvenirs. Tours.

Yelp
We rent the Doerfler Family Theater every year for our faculty and closing concerts and everyone at the heritage center is so easy and pleasant to work with. The piano is wonderful and acoustics are incredible. The displays at the museum are informative, interesting, and surprisingly moving.

Yelp
Such a great experience for families! It's tiny, safe, affordable, and there's a theater where you can choose fun historical movies to see. We loved the miniature boats and learned all about tuna! This place is a gem.

Yelp
Surprisingly excellent museum given the town's size. Unlike many museums, they portray an honest & practical viewpoint from the point of the working class -- that is, they don't bash fishermen. Instead, they offer very educational placards, etc., about the various fish, and the various ways those fish are fished. The topic of conservation is addressed in a respectful (vs. nagging) fashion, where everyone's viewpoints are respected. The town's history is also very well presented. I was very impressed, and will return.

Yelp
As a local resident, I've loved to come to the PMHC regularly to see its latest exhibits on this region, -- its life, the people, regional arts. Attending performances (piano recitals, chamber concerts) in the Doerfler Family theater are amazing! Just the view of the the bay, the boats, and the bridge while listening to beautiful music is breathtaking. And I must add that I've enjoyed too the knowledge and friendliness of the staff.

Yelp
This was an amazing museum inside a beautiful house on the bay, that is a spectacular piece of Newport history. I recommend skipping all the touristy boardwalk shops that are right below this museum and treat your brain to some cool historical facts about the area.

Yelp
Only 5 dollar entrance! Amazing view and exhibits. Plenty on shipwrecks, history of sea work, and sustainable fishing. Lady running it was a talker for sure, but adorable. Loved the visit and plans to expand inside the building. Building is beautiful all on it's own!
