3 Best Day Trips in Bali | Condé Nast Traveler

"Padang Padang is a small-ish beach that's the starting point to reach surf breaks, as well as a launching site for fishermen on pastel outrigger boats. The best time to come here is early in the morning, as the sun rises and before the crowds. With mounds of rocks protruding out from the smooth sand, the scenery here is lovely and dramatic. The sheltered bay makes the water perfect for a swim; you can also try your hand at surfing—there are plenty of surf schools with great instructors." - Anna Chittenden

⭐ 4.5/5 – Beautiful but can get crowded Padang Padang Beach is one of Bali’s iconic small beaches, famous for its turquoise waters, white sand, and dramatic rock formations. You enter through a narrow cliffside stairway, which makes the approach feel a bit adventurous — and the view when you step onto the sand is breathtaking. 👍 Pros: • Stunning scenery, great for photos. • Calm, clear water, perfect for swimming. • Popular surf spot with consistent waves for intermediate surfers. • Unique cliff entrance adds charm. ⚠️ Cons: • Small beach area, so it gets very crowded, especially late morning to afternoon. • Entry fee applies (small amount, but cash only). • Limited shade — bring sunscreen and maybe an umbrella. 💡 Tips: • Best to visit early in the morning to enjoy the peace before the crowds. • Bring water and snacks, though there are small stalls nearby. • If you surf, this spot can be magical during the right tide.

10/10 the hike up will be worth it but I recomend going in the morning since in the evening it's crowded. Very clean most of the sand is soft but some part are still rough.

It is actually a good beach but very crowded when we got there. The steps were so much for my parents but glad that they made it down and up. Hope they find solution for older people like an elevator perhaps. But all good. The sand in the water wasn’t too good. Super rocky. The sand wasn’t very fine. In fact painful to walk. I suggest bringing water shoes. Surfing price is decent but would rather spend it on something else. 600k for 1hr 30mins. Includes a trainer, rash guard and training.

This beach is undeniably beautiful and incredibly photogenic—easily one of the must-visit spots in the area. Access is via a stairway and there is a small entry fee, but once you arrive, the stunning views make it all worthwhile. The beach is nit very big but good for swimming. The water is generally inviting, though some areas have stronger swells and scattered rocks, so a bit of caution is needed. We did notice some natural debris—leaves, twigs, and other remnants from nearby cliffs—floating in the water, which slightly detracted from the swimming experience. While the beach isn’t spotless, the debris appears to be from the surrounding nature rather than pollution. There are small local vendors around selling water, beer, and snacks, adding to the relaxed, local vibe. We even spotted a few adventurous visitors trying out cliff jumping from the nearby rocks. Overall, while not the cleanest beach for swimming, its raw natural beauty, peaceful setting, and stunning views make it a place worth experiencing. Be careful of the monkeys which are along the way of entrance of the beach.

Padang Padang Beach is a hidden gem in Bali that offers a truly unique experience. Nestled between towering cliffs, this small but stunning beach is perfect for those looking to escape the larger, more crowded spots on the island. The beach is accessed via a narrow gap in the rocks, which adds to its charm and gives it a secluded, private feel. The crystal-clear waters and soft, golden sand make it an ideal spot for swimming, sunbathing, and simply relaxing. The beach has a laid-back vibe, and the surrounding cliffs provide a beautiful backdrop, making it an excellent spot for photos. If you're into surfing, the waves here are great for both beginners and intermediate surfers, adding an extra element of fun. One of the highlights of Padang Padang Beach is its unique setting. Despite being relatively small, the beach offers a cozy atmosphere that feels like a tropical paradise. The beach is clean, and there are a few warungs (local cafes) nearby where you can grab a bite to eat or enjoy a refreshing drink. A word of advice: it can get crowded during peak hours, so it’s best to visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. There is a small entrance fee, but it's definitely worth it for the beauty and serenity the beach offers. All in all, Padang Padang Beach is a must-visit for anyone looking for a picturesque, peaceful beach experience in Bali. Highly recommend!

Very beautiful and scenic beach, loads of surfers there too. It has entry fee. However it is polluted, there is rubbish everywhere and we didnt see any bins. Given its no free access it should be cleaned way more.

It is such a nice beach with white sands, clean water and moderate waves. The way to the beach goes through a small cave. It's a fun experience. The beach attracts surfers, swimmers and the beach explorers. The beach area was crowded during my visit. There are many small and big rocks that double down as photo spots.

Did not love, only I’m just not a people person with beaches. People shoulder to shoulder on this small beach area. Costs to get in, no card only cash. However, provides gorgeous views.
