"Singapore’s Padang playing field has remained undisturbed by major construction since it was zoned for public use in 1819, just after Stamford Raffles staked his claim on Singapore for the British Empire. It remains the country’s favorite civic venue for events such as the National Day Parade. The field, once located along Singapore’s coastline and now further inland due to land reclamation, is surrounded by the nation’s most important colonial-era buildings, most of which still stand. The neoclassical, colonnaded former City Hall (built in 1929), and its neighbor, the grand old Supreme Court edifice (from 1939), are still sitting pretty—both are now part of the National Gallery Singapore. The 1884-erected Singapore Cricket Club, with its red-tile roof and green shutters, anchors one end of the field; on the other side you can find the great white St. Andrew’s Cathedral, dating from 1861."

The Padang is an iconic landmark in Singapore with a rich history. We hope it becomes a UNESCO landmark too! National Day Parade 2023 was held here and there was something really special about the whole feel to it. The sights were beautiful and the displays astounding. Looking forward to the parade here again next year! Be prepared for the heat and sun before sunset thought!

Got to watch the ndp 2024 live. Scroll through my photos to see how it’s like to be sitting at the green zone. Rained before the show but fortunately not during. Please cloud seed for next year sg60 if not there may be accidents that could have been prevented if the floor is not slippery.

Crowded with many going to green/ yellow sector via exit A. Once exited the glass doors, after going up the escalator towards the direction of the mall, turn right, only ticket holders are able to walk through. There were a lot of staff (saf, police officer, ushers in yellow top) & signages around to guide those going to NE shows, & same as departing, thus just follow the crowd to walk to Padang. Exit also same way. In fact, green sector also able to enter via Esplanade mrt station, way lesser people, and heard ushers stationed there mentioning green sectors too. Able to view passing army tankers, some fireworks right in front of empty space of "The Stamford Brasserie", Left most can come through & able to get right behind of the barriers around 7pm. #ndp #neshows #ndp2024

🟩🌳🌿 The Padang ( simply means "field" in Malay). It's an open field located within the downtown central district of Singapore. 🟫 The Padang is directly opposite to the National Gallery complex ( ➡️ which was formerly the City Hall admin offices during colonial times). 🟩 The Padang is also surrounded by several important landmarks - which includes St Andrew's Cathedral, the former old Supreme Court Building, Singapore Recreation Club, City Hall MRT station and etc. 🌿🌳 The Padang has a special place in Singapore's history. ● Younger Singaporeans know it as the traditional site for many National Day Parades since the mid-1960s. 🟨 Older Singaporeans will remember it as the venue for the installation of the late Yusof Ishak as the Yang di-Pertuan Negara (Malay for “Head of State”) in 1959. 🟦 The Padang is a field that marked many momentous events in Singapore.

Padang, the iconic historical landmark, is found in Singapore's city centre. It is overlooked by tall skyscrapers. The history of this plain looking field in front of the national gallery museum goes back to 1945, the place where the japanese army surrendered. It is the states first national day in august 9 1965. It is home to the many national day parades and acts as a home to many football clubs. The photos attached are taken during the National Day Parade 2024, with the vibrant lights symbolising Singapore's prosperity and strength.

First time attended a live NDP 2023. A place to be able to see the good view of the commercial buildings around us especially the tower clock. In the evening once it is lighted up, it is amazing.
