Paektu Mountain

One of the most spectacular sights I saw in China's North. I had been feeling sick the day before, and came up the mountain not altogether chirpy. But the sight of the Heavenly Lake, and peering across into North Korea was a tonic like no other. I went in the height of Summer, so the lake had a magical turquoise colour. Apparently 9 months a year, it's frozen, which is supposed to be just as pretty. I believe 长白山 is a dormant volcano too, but check that for yourself. Might be "active" in the same sense as Fuji.

Absolutely beautiful historical site in Korea. Being the highest mountain in Korea, it is a popular spot for school children and university students alike in Korea to hike and learn about its history. Going back to the 1930s it was the birthplace of the Korean independence movement against the Japanese oppressors.

Travel all the way there because their local Tourism Board promised to show me something hotter than Blackpink. They weren't lying, the volcano is still releasing lots of steam

Nice view! I love the music about this mountain too! Our Great Leader Kim Jong-Un climbed this mountain a lot. I wish I could swim it tho!

Mount Paektu straddles the North Korea-China border and can be reached from China, where it is known as Changbai Mountain As the highest mountain on the Korean peninsula at about 2,750 metres (9,000 ft) above sea level, Mount Paektu is the mythical origin of the Korean people, featuring in South Korea’s national anthem and various North Korean propaganda. An active volcano, Mount Paektu is dotted with secret camps and historical sites from Korea’s guerrilla war against the occupying Japanese in the 1940s. A large crater lake, called Heaven Lake, is in the caldera atop the mountain.

nice place, seeing the people on despair was quite the view, would've given 5 stars had we not been taken in by the police and interrogated. unfortunate that I'll be going home with only 4 fingernails, but other than that it was pretty good!

How sweet place I want to also their with my family because I love Korea and his every thing but culture is wrong in this korean person I can see so many films korean.

Looks like a beautiful place. I hope to see the day that the people of North Korea are liberated and allowed to travel freely where ever they wish.
