The 6 Best Hostels in Athens (Updated 2025)

"I found this family-run hostel to be one of the most affordable in the city. The beds in the five- and eight-bed dorms are pretty basic—no curtains or individual outlets—and I think the mattresses are a bit thin, but all rooms have individual lockers and the bathrooms are big and clean. It's basic but cheap, with washing machines (a nice perk for long-term travelers), a common room with board games where you can usually find other travelers hanging out, and a large kitchen for cooking your own meals; it's a good hostel to meet other travelers and one of the best cheap ones centrally located in Pangrati. Stay here if you're on a tight budget." - Matthew Kepnes

The hostel was good value and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The hostel is in a decent location as well. The only downside was the rooms didn’t have very much privacy for example the beds didn’t have any curtains. Otherwise great and a nice community. :)

The hostel is very well placed. easy to find. The small corridor decorated so well it turned into a very well-coming space for residents to go take a beer meet and talk. Every one their is so nice. The owner if i remember correctly was george/josh. He was very nice even tho we made a bit of a noise in the "well-coming" corridor.

I had the best stay at this hostel! The hospitality was truly unmatched — everyone was so warm, welcoming, and helpful. The staff went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable and at home. The space was clean, cozy, and had a great vibe. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting…♥️

We met lots of people during our stay which was really nice. Georges, the manager, social battery is astonishing. He was always up for a talk. We had lots of fun in this hostel. The showers and the toilets are very small though and the showers sometimes weren't very clean. Also we thought that our room has AC (it said heating at booking), which they didnt have. Because our room faced east, it got hot very early. We woke up drenched in sweat every night (we were there staying early June).

5 stars for my purposes. Pros: If you're young, flexible and social, this is a really good environment. The hostel's personality was very open and social-- everyone was pretty chatty, people don't really lock doors, and many go out together every night. It was really easy to find people to do stuff with, which was nice as a solo traveller. Everyone respected quiet hours too, ironically diff from less social/ friendly hostels I've been to. The hostel is colorful and cute. So long as they had beds, fridges, and hot water for their shower, I'm good, which they did, and otherwise have a low price. Cons: A little too far from the metro for those with luggage (30 mins thru busy city) and the busses aren't incredibly reliable. Can be tiring to go out. Not a luxurious stay (see price!)-- the kitchen is small, the showers are small, the mattress is thin. There is no AC which was fine in May with the fans on and windows open. Worked great for me as I wasn't in Athens long, wanted to make friends and didn't have much $. Thanks everyone!

Best hostel in Athens, I stayed in 4 different ones. Still under original ownership since 1969. George the manager is pure hospitality and good energy. Clean, feels like home, social spaces, comfy beds, extremely good security and lockers, and the VIBE is simply unmatched. 10/10

definitely the worst hostel ever! when i arrived there was this crazy receptionist on speed or something running around like crazy freaking every one out. after check in i was already very shocked but when i came back after i had dinner i first saw that literally everything in this hostel was dirty. i saw the sheets they gave me ... dirty as well so i ask for new ones they told me they arent dirty they just washed them so i went out for a few drinks to forget about this place. i came back and went to bed and realized that there were only 3 plugs in the 6 bed dorm and they were in use for the fan so i couldnt charge my phone. next day i woke up early to someone yelling around to in the patio, went to the bathroom and saw that i got at least 50 bedbug bites. i went to the reception and i didnt even ask for a refund because i knew thats not gonna work anyway and told them about the bugs and that i want to leave. the crazy day from the day before yelled at me for like 10 minutes. and i had to discuss with him for about 15 minutes just to get back my 5 or 10€ key deposit while he was insulting me without any manners! stay as far away as possible!! its cheap but you will know why (stayed in juli 2023)
