35 Places to Celebrate Black Musicians and How They Changed the World

"With nearly 40 studio albums over his career, it’s not an exaggeration to say that Prince had an outsized catalog. He needed a place to make his music that was just as big, just as expansive as his work, and he had one: Paisley Park. The 65,000-square-foot building in Chanhassen, Minnesota served as a recording and production studio as well as private residence for the musician. And shortly after the singer’s death in 2016, Paisley Park was opened to the public. Visitors can now see the complex where Prince recorded several of his albums, and artists including James Brown, Neil Young, and Madonna came to record as well. Also on view are memorabilia from the artist including instruments, artwork, motorcycles, and rare recordings. And, oh yeah, the actual sounds of doves crying. Prince envisioned Paisley Park, built in 1987, as a place that wouldn’t just enable him to produce his musical work, but be a creative space for film and commercial productions, performance, and clothing production. So what should fans of the late performer making the trek to the Minneapolis suburb expect? Well, for starters, as you enter you’ll hear the sounds of Majesty and Divinity, Prince’s pet doves. You’ll see an urn, shaped like Paisley Park and decorated with white doves, crystals, and a replica of his purple piano. And yes, that urn contains the singer’s ashes. Depending on the level of access you choose on the tour, you can also enjoy a vegetarian meal at the end. Although close to Minneapolis, a city whose musical culture was influenced by Prince, Paisley Park wasn’t as much a part of that city’s musical scene as you would think. “If someone wants action and an exciting, dynamic night life, they are probably going to be disappointed,” studio manager John Dressell told the New York Times three years after the complex’s opening. “For people who are serious about making records, this is a great place to come.” The complex has been host to concert rehearsals from artists as diverse as Kool and the Gang and Barry Manilow. Albums by R.E.M., Stone Temple Pilots, Mavis Staples, and George Clinton were produced or recorded (at least in part) in the Paisley Park studios. At one point, the amount of production work being done at the complex lead to the Minneapolis region being ranked fourth in “film and video production revenues, behind Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.” With the musician’s death, there’s little chance of recapturing the exact feeling that must have pulsed through the building at its peak. But the museum offers a glimpse into his life, and an opportunity to remember his musical legacy." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

What an absolutely amazing experience from the moment we arrived. The staff and especially our guide, Tommy, made our experience priceless. His love for Prince and the stories he shared made you feel like he was just around the corner. Can't say enough about our 3 hour experience, the memories will last a lifetime!

Google
Great experience! I would have liked to see more of Paisley Park, the Rotunda, second floor but overall the tour was good: that’s my reason for only 4 stars. Bummer not being able to take pics but liked that phones were unlocked in large concert space to take pics & experience the room with live music. I appreciated being able to spend time in the spaces we did tour & time to just chill a bit. I never felt rushed. Our tour guide was great, answered all questions and was super knowledgeable.

Mum and I flew from Australia to Minnesota for this VIP DELUXE EXPERIENCE and let me tell you this was THE experience! We had a blast and our tour guide Bibie did a fantastic job informing us and guiding us about all things Prince 💜✨The experience was so surreal I have no words our dreams finally came true going to the place were it all began . It was surreal and a memory that will last us a lifetime. We highly recommend doing this tour, we also had the inside scoop on some never released or seen content which was amazing. We also tried his favourite turtle pecan cheesecake which was delicious 🙏💜💜

Google
It was awesome seeing Prince's creative space. Not allowed to take pictures during the tour until the last room, and that is the Wow! moment. There were 2 photo op moments during our VIP tour in which they took our picture and it was texted to us...that was cool. They did have some of his costumes on display, but it would have been cool to see more of them. Definitely recommend going and seeing.

Google
I highly suggest this tour if you love music and are a Prince fan. S? Ring for the VIP. We didn't and I regret it. The general tour is amazing, and if you can request Mina as your tour guide she is awesome. Great tour and a great taste of Prince's background.

Google
My Family and I had the absolute best time ever. Being a Drummer and performer I can appreciate his music more and what he accomplished and stood for. I will never forget this day, and last but not least the entire staff to include our tour guide was flawless and beyond amazing and definitely on top of their game Great Work!!!!!!!!!🫶🏽

Google
You don't have to be a Prince fan to be impressed by this amazing complex. 💜 This 65,000 sq ft live/work space pays tribute to all things Prince and the projects he produced. Part museum part musical mecca....We took a VIP tour and bought tickets online days ahead. Out of respect for Prince's philosophy on protecting his privacy, there is a no phone policy until the end of the tour. You can visit their onsite NPG club for coffee or a few treats if you decide too late and can't get tickets to a tour. Do yourself a favor and go visit. It will leave a purple print on your heart.

Barbara Paterson

Google
If you like Prince, or are interested in music, you need to visit. Do yourself a favour and take the VIP tour. Guides are awesome! Paisley Park was Prince's recording studio, and his home in the later years. Such a special place. Never forget, Paisley Park is in your heart. 🎶💜

Yelp
So overwhelmingly beautiful. Prince is a master of music. I had tears in my eyes to realize we lost an icon so young I wish we got a little more personal insight like his bedroom or closet. But our guide was exceptional. Highly recommend!! We went to Bunkers per her recommendation and wow it rounded out the day. This is a must do when in Minneapolis

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect but given the steep admission price of $80 with fees I was certain it was not worth it. This was the cheapest of the three tour packages. I have read the stories that Prince's family is doing all it can to squeeze as much money out of his legacy as they can - this certainly was one sign of that! In the end we were pleasantly surprised that it was a good tour but still not worth $80! My relatives live within five miles of this place but we never got around to touring it until our most recent visit to the area. We made a reservation two weeks in advance. When we arrived you had to show your ticket just to park and then they only let a couple in at a time to get the security briefing and to put your phone in a bag so you cannot take pictures during the tour. They do allow you to do so near the end. Our tour guide, a high school teacher, did an excellent job giving the details about Prince, Paisley Park and the stories of the purple one. It was great to see the studios where some of his music was recorded and it was fun to see video clips to showcase his talent. Overall a good tour and not unlike other great talents a story of someone who left us too soon.

Yelp
How can any Prince fan visit Minneapolis and not visit Paisley Park? That's wild, that's egregious, that's definitely NOT me! lol. I was in Minneapolis for a conference in October 2024 and knew I wanted to see the beauty of Prince's creativity. Now, Purple Rain was released a few years before I was born, so I'm on the younger side of the fan spectrum BUT, I adore and followed his music prior to his death. I am also a big fan of Vanity 6, so a trip was well worth it. Now in order to visit, you must secure tickets. I did so about 1 month in advance for a Saturday afternoon outing. To my surprise, Paisley Park is not in the immediate Minneapolis area. It is located in an area called Chanhassen. From my hotel which was downtown, it was about a 30 minute ride. Upon arriving, you'll be welcomed by a beautifully maintained property that is secured by tight security. I took a few pictures outside the Prince's signature symbol then headed inside. Upon entering, you'll be greeted by a security guard. Tickets are timestamped and they won't let you in any earlier. He gathered everyone from my time block and gave us a quick orientation on security measures. Among them, we had to fully power off our phone and then lock it into a secure pouch that was provided. This means no photography or video until they tell you it's ok. Talk standing on business and keeping top secret! We were then lead into a waiting room. I purchased a "Paisley Experience" Ticket which includes a 90-minute guided tour. As we sat waiting for the tour guide, we were entertained by the sounds of Prince's music and beautiful artwork as well as photos of Prince and his work. I briefly walked over to see an award he received on a wall just steps outside of the waiting area and was told that was not allowed and that I was to wait for the tour guide. Again, talk about top secret. Finally, the guide arrived and began our tour. The space is immaculate and you could tell that Prince made it special for his comfort and creativity. From the kitchen to his office, everything was interesting. You won't see the entire home as some areas are not apart of the exhibit, but what you do see is great. We walked throughout the premises while the tour guide gave background info and stories. The commentary almost allows you to imagine what it was like when Prince was living there and his accomplishments over time. There were some portions of the exhibit where the guide let us out to explore on our own which I appreciated. We even got a chance to see and stand in his studio which was amazing. It's like you could feel his spirit there. Towards the end, we were released into a soundstage area filled with one of Prince's car, a specialty piano, and costumes from the Purple Rain era. All amazing! Moreover, this is the time in which they'll let you use your phone again. At that point, I was'nt so much interested as a lot of more interesting things I found were in the prior areas, but it was still a nice finale. Shortly after, we concluded the tour in the NPH music club where Prince once held public late-night performances. From there, you can walk into the souvenir shop or exit. The souvenir shop was pretty good. I think they had every album he released available for purchase, along with t-shirts, keychains, and other memorabilia. Alot of things focused on purple rain, which to me was a bit monotonous throughout the tour. I know that's what shot him to stardom, but it was'nt his only hit. He was a real musician and from what I remember, one who stood up for artist's rights. They talk about it a little but I think a bit more could be said. As someone who missed that height in his career, this exhibit was a moment for me to learn about him. I think I got a good chunk but I would've love to know more about his upbringing. I don't think they even mentioned any background on how he developed his show at the super bowl and barely anything was said about his backing bands, these are things I would've loved to learn more about. Nonetheless, it was a good experience and I learned a lot more about him and his impact on the music industry as well as the city of Minneapolis thru the tour. Overall, it was a great tour at a good value. I believe I paid about $80 for my ticket including insurance (optional). My only dislike was the security precautions. Although I understand this was essentially someone's home, I don't quite understand why we can't take pictures until the very end. I'm guessing that flashes or the technology could cause some things to deteriorate. I know Prince was also a bit mysterious, but it's still odd to me that these areas are open to public viewing but now photography. Otherwise, it was a good experience and one I'd return to do again. I highly recommend to anyone, whether fan or not, to visit.

Yelp
A must see place for anyone who is a true Prince fan. And even if you're not. They left everything exactly the way it was "when he left us" as they put it. Amazingly talented and definitely gone far too soon.

Yelp
Kyle was absolutely amazing showing us around Paisley Park. He answered all of our questions, was very patient, enthusiastic, and entertaining at the same time. I am so happy and honored that I was able to tour Paisley Park!! It was an awesome opportunity and definitely would come back again in the future for another tour. May Prince continue to rest in peace. His love for people and music will continue to live on.

Yelp
If you are a Prince fan and you are in Minnesota, I highly recommend you take the tour. I was here for the USC/Minnesota football game and decided to take the 11:30am VIP tour on a Friday. It was packed, and everyone seemed to love it. The VIP tour will take about 2 hours, and the docent we had knew her stuff. We got there in the nick of time, you will start in a holding area where they will put your mobile phone in locked security bag, so no picture opportunities until near the end. The tour went quickly because it was fascinating and filled with stories and artifacts. I learned a lot about Prince and his music that I did not know, and I consider myself a fan. It ends at a great coffee shop and an extensive gift shop. My favorite part was touring his office and the various recording studios, I was able to assimilate into his brilliant mind/world, amazing!

Yelp
I really enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide Bee was fantastic! She was very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed seeing the studios, soundstage and lounge.    My only gripe is we didn't receive our pictures. The kiosk said there may be a 24-hour delay, but over a week went by and we didn't receive anything. I filled out the Contact Us form on the website and didn't hear anything for over a week. I then emailed them from my personal email and received my pictures the next day. Besides that, I had a great experience.

Yelp
I took part in the cheapest tour twice, 1st in 2023 and now again today. Our tour guide (Jess) is a certified Prince fan and was very knowledgeable and answered all questions thoroughly. She was excellent, and made this trip better than my last one. The museum also had added details that weren't there before, so it's good to see it's getting better and better. Would recommend for any Prince fan or any music fan in general

Yelp
Like other visitors to Paisley Park this was a bucket list trip. Flew from NorCal just to go here. Reserved tix for the VIP tour. Security is extremely tight here. Check in at the gate, park, go to gift shop before tour ( knock on the door because that door is locked (A7), can't enter building until 20 minutes before tour, they lock your phones, wand your body & bag ( I would leave everything except your phone & $ in the car), you wait in the lobby where you can't touch anything ( best not to breathe or make any sudden movements either). Once inside you will get the tour of your life! Our guide, Logan, gave us plenty of time to look at everything and ask questions. We did the VIP tour. We played ping pong on Princes table. We had a photo op with his portrait mural and on a replica motorcycle from Purple Rain movie in the 40th anniversary interactive room. Too many Prince moments to describe. We are big Prince fans but this tour would be great for musicians as well. Lots of info about sound mixing and guitar & bass lines. Remember to tip your tour guides. Let's go crazy!

Yelp
Better customer service. Internal issues caused my group and myself to miss the chance to visit. I started to book our tours over a month in advance, I was not flexible. But due to their negligence we lost our tour time slot. I kept in constant contact with no response from paisley park. There is no phone that is answered by an actual person, all communication is done through email. I'm leaving this bad review in the hope that someone in management will see this unprofessional conduct by employees.

Yelp
I returned to Minnesota for unfinished business. That unfinished business was going to Paisley Park and having another Juicy Lucy. But let's focus on Paisley Park... I was disappointed. Why you may ask? Let me tell you... When I visit a place like PP I want to learn. I want more information about who Prince was, his upbringing, his family, his career... The Paisley Park tour did not fill this bucket for me. I learnt about his emancipation but not much else. It was really welcome- come walk through his house, look at some memorabilia but the main focus was Purple Rain since it was a week before the 40th anniversary of the movie. I wanted more. The staff were nice and informative. I ask a lot of questions so it was shared with me as a part of their training that they are encouraged that certain topics are not open for discussion so leave anything controversial about Prince or his life at the door. Security was intense! Beware. The gift shop was weak. So much opportunity- so many people visiting. I bought nothing and I love to spend money at gift shops! Too much purple rain and not enough stuff had Paisley Park written on it. Not one postcard for sale. Business finished but low grade work.

Yelp
If you are a Prince fan, I rececommend the VIP tour. If you are not but curious, I rececommend the coffee shop because its phenomenal coffee. The the VIP tour is two hours and it covers a lot of Prince's life and career. Our tour guide Nnamdi, a local was amazing and very helpful. I have heard the Utilmate Experience is cool because you get more pics and to hold a guitar but most seem to be happy with the VIP experience. They have ample parking but you can use a ride share. The coffee is lovely. Plus they have wheelchairs for use.

Yelp
If you are a Prince fan, this place is amazing! His compound is absolutely beautiful. We had the best guide. He had a unique name started with an A. He was so outgoing, and he had the biggest smile. He is also a musician. The knowledge that he shared with us about Prince the videos we watched the items we saw was just mine blowing. Prince definitely left us too soon. If you're Prince fan, this is a must to go see. I personally laughed, and I cried. It was very emotional.

Yelp
If you are a prince fan and you are in Minnesota, I highly recommend you to squeeze some time to come here. I was here for work and decided to take one extra day to be a tourist. I am so glad that I asked the manager at the hotel I was staying of what is his recommendations and he recommended me to come here and even, granted me late check out so I have time to come back to the hotel and finalize my packing. I was able to get the last 11 AM ticket. There were several options for the tickets and the only one that was available at the last minute was the general admission which is around 70 something dollars. I got there in the nick of time and since I was part of the people who came in a minute late, we had to be in this holding area where the bouncer informed us that we need to check in our devices, turn it off, including our Apple watches and put it inside a security locked bag that they could only lock it. Then we were able to join the larger group. I am so glad that I were my lilac jacket as so many ladies were wearing purple. The tour went quickly and I learned a lot about prints. I remember Prince growing up, but I wasn't a huge fan, but after this, I started listening to his old songs and deepen my appreciation at the Minnesota sound. You exit through the gift shop and I was tempted to buy the Facebook app, but I just bought a sticker.
google avatar

Karma M.

Yelp
Amazing and fun. Lots of cool things to learn. Being a music producer I was able to see how Prince modded his Linn Drum Machine, LM1 with Boss guitar pedals. Amazing to see that he was doing that and being creative. That alone was worth the admission price
google avatar

Yelp
Finally the grand finale before leaving Minneapolis, visiting Paisley Park! I was super excited about the tour. Make sure you reserve your tickets online. The cost is reasonable considering this is a guided tour. We did the 90min tour, which I felt was long enough. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. It wasn't busy the day we visited, our tour was enjoyable. We learned quite abit about Prince and his musical contributions and more. It as amazing to see the artifacts and just view his property. I'm appreciative that he decide to share his gifts with the world. There was abit of mystery concerning Prince, but its not my place to judge anyone. No cameras are allowed during your tour, they will unlock your bag at the end of tour. Pictures and videos are allowed at the end. You will exit thru the gift shop. I didnt see anything that was different or I just needed. This was a bucketlister for me, and it was well worth the visit! I def recommend if your a Prince fan or just visiting Minn. @glampedlife

Yelp
Wow! What an amazing experience that exceeded our expectations. The facility was state of the art in the late 80's when it opened and is super clean and well maintained. The tour guide was super knowledgeable and kept everyone engaged especially my 9 year old boy. It was so cool to see the unimaginable journey and challenges Prince overcame in his short lifetime. I really enjoyed hearing his hits throughout the tour that culminated with one of his live performances. Definitely an experience I will never forget!

Yelp
A must do if you are in the area. I was in Minneapolis for work and had some time to kill so after a simple search of things to do I landed on a tour of Paisley Park. I was able to buy my tickets easily online and select my tour time. There are multiple packages or experiences that range from $65 up to $200. I opted for the $65 tour. Finding Paisley Park was easy but I wasn't expecting what I saw when I pulled up. Its a very commercial looking building. There is a guard at the entrance that verifies you have an appointment before letting you in. Then once you park you can walk around the parking lot but cannot go inside until your appointed time. I was expecting a quieter more secluded property for Prince but Paisley Park is the opposite of that. At your appointed time you are escorted into the lobby where you check in with your tour group. Before that you are given a small bag and required to shut your phone off and place it in the bag. The bag is locked and you have no way to unlock it until the end of the tour. You are able to keep the bag but have no access to your phone. I was also told to power off my apple watch. After a few minutes to check everyone in we were introduced to our tour guide and the tour started. Our group size was 12 but this was during the week in the middle of the day. I heard weekends can get pretty busy. Our tour guide was amazing and obviously a huge Prince fan. There was not a question he didn't know the answer. During the entire tour he was very attentive and was not in a rush to move us through. I cannot say enough about the experience of the tour. To stand in the same places as not only one great but many greats created, wrote, collaborated and recorded music is unsurmountable. It was such an awesome experience to see the place where Prince lived and to hear the stories of what music was created there. Additionally, to be able to see some of Prince's cars, his shoe room, stages where he would put on mini concerts. I could go on and on and get chills reflecting back on the experience. I was satisfied with the $65 tour. I read a few mixed reviews about this higher packages which is why I chose what I did. I would say if you are a huge Prince fan and are making the trip specifically for this then go for the big package however, if you are like me and like Prince but not a huge fanatic then the $65 package was fantastic.

Yelp
I hope get to come back one day! I love Prince and I had one of the best experiences of my life!

Yelp
Everything was amazing. Any Prince fan will love this place. General, VIP, Ultimate....D. All of thee above

Yelp
I'm glad I got to experience Paisley Park! Prince was incredible and I'm glad to have been in his "space." It was a nice mix of the tour guide talking, listening to music and interviews and being able to explore on my own. The only 2 criticisms I have are: it was difficult to hear the tour guide at times (she was a very sweet and pleasant young lady) and there's so much to see in the atrium that we need more time. Overall, great experience! Thanks Prince for sharing your gift with the world and creating a place for fans to visit.

Yelp
We went for a corporate event so we didn't get a formal tour. It would have been nice to get a better understanding of what we were seeing. However, the exhibits were really cool and you can tell the staff is very passionate about Prince.

Yelp
My husband is a prince fan. After the Ultimate Experience tour I consider myself a fan as well. Learned so much and that he was so talented. Our tour guide was awesome. Would've loved to have seen him in concert but for now I'll just watch his recorded shows. Love his music

Yelp
This place is amazing. I am glad that I was able to make it here. This was refuge for Minneapolis's favorite son, Prince Rodger Nelson. Here is where he recorded some of his hits, hosted some legendary parties (yes culminating in the serving of pancakes), and even lived for a period of time. Parking here is free, which is a plus. I took the VIP tour, which was a bit pricey, but I was like what the hell. They have some tight security that will let you know when you are somewhere that you should not be or leaning on a wall. I visited here while I was on my way to the airport, so I had all of my luggage with me. I was graciously allowed to check my luggage in at the gift shop. They had tags specifically made for that purpose, so that is a regular occurrence there I believe. They do not allow cell phones on the majority of the. Starting off the tour, they give you the ground rules and then secure your phone in a Yondr pouch so you can not use it. The tour includes visits to Prince's office, the editing room, recording studios A and B, a room full of his shoes, the Galaxy Room, a kitchen area and rooms themed after certain Prince albums including Sign of the TImes, Diamonds and Pearls, and of course Purple Rain. The areas are well laid out and very organized. There are a few films that they have you view along the way and there are some interactive activities such as a photo op in studio B, playing on Prince's ping pong table in Studio B, listen to isolated instruments on Prince tacks (When Dove's Cry), listening to unreleased music (Cheesy). They promised that there will be some new Prince music released in the future from his vault. You will find an ample amount of restrooms available along the tour, so don't worry about that. My tour guide, Margo, was amazingly awesome. She was funny, energetic, respectful, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. She was perfect for the job and I was glad she was my guide. The tour is guided, but after each stop is explained, the guide leaves the visitors to explore the area own their own for a bit. At the second to last stop on the tour, they free your phones from the Yondr bags and you are free to take pictures and videos for the remaining part of the tour. That second to last stop, begins at the room dedicated to the artist formerly known as Prince's room, just behind the When Doves Cry door. Behind that door you will find a huge concert venue with a bunch of Prince memorabilia including a couple of cars, a bike, a motorcycle, and a couple of pianos. They play a short Prince concert of the screen on the stage. It starts off electric and is really pumping. The place starts off dark, but eventually things settle down and they turn the lights back on. The tour, which lasted about 2 hours, ends at the NPG club which is where Prince hosted many parties. They have a few lounge chairs and high top tables with chairs there. It is a very cool place with a few photo ops. There is where you will find a snack bar with light snacks and drinks. Before you exit, you will pass a large rest room area and of course the gift shop. The gift shops has t shirts, vinyl albums, magnets, umbrellas, hats and other memorabilia available to purchase. The entire staff, from the security, to the receptionist, to the gift shop staff and of course the guides are very friendly. They were all awesome. I loved this tour and highly recommend it. It is a must visit while in Minneapolis.

Yelp
We had a fabulous time! We did the 90min tour and I wished we'd done a longer one--that's saying something, since I'm not a huge Prince fan like my sister, cousin, and friend. The guy who did our tour (young guy w poofy hair and glasses, super energetic!) was excellent; knowledgeable, and obviously a huge music fan, which enhanced the experience. You enter and are immediately told to turn off your phones, which go into a locked bag--this is to prevent photography or recording. We were taken inside and got to see Prince's office and kitchenette, a room filled with his shoes, a couple of recording rooms, and the finale is the stage he actually used to hold small concerts in (both public and private for friends). You get your phone back in the final room (the stage area), where you can snap photos of the stage, see video footage of Prince, one his motorcycles and pianos. The. You exit through the gift shop. My only critique would be either a slightly longer tour, or a smaller group. We got 15 mins in one area to see 4 different things and although I can ready quickly there's no way I could see and read everything. Greta visit and I'd def recommend to Prince/music fans!

Yelp
Where to begin... I can be a pretty decent writer, but I don't know that I can fully express what my pilgrimage to Paisley Park means to me in prose. If you're a true fan, and you haven't been... Go! It's so worth the price of admission. There are three different price points for tours. As a fan since my preteens, there is no way that I was visiting without receiving the full "Ultimate Experience." It was completely amazing and well-worth the $200. I'm not sure what the experience is for the lowest and mid price ticket levels. We did cross paths with them a time or two. However, I do know that they didn't receive the same amount of time there. The highlights for me were standing in P's favorite chill spots, where he watched basketball, his personal office, the recording studios, and the amazing shoe display room. I felt vibrations flow through my body, in certain rooms more than others. I cried for most of the tour, especially when I could undoubtedly feel P's presence. When we entered into the darkened shoe room, even though I could see flickers of colors, I had no idea what was to come. When the lights flicked on, I almost passed out! Trust that my descend to the floor would have been as dramatic as the reveal. The room housed hundreds of shoes, boots, and a few costumes. The shoes were tiny in size and made of the most exquisite looking fabrics. I honestly couldn't say what size they were. They seemed too small to even put my hand in. There was a video of the shoe designers playing. They were discussing how they, along with Prince, curated his signature look using a mold from a child's shoe. I couldn't concentrate on much else that was said. I was completely captivated by the beauty surrounding me. The shoes were displayed from floor to ceiling, so I spent most of my time in there with wide eyes and my head on a constant swivel up, down, and around. Some of the displays had placards indicating the occasion he'd worn the shoes. I saw the Super Bowl pair and a few from award show appearances. It was especially heartwarming to me to know that P and I have similar esthetics. His office furnishings, artwork, and decor choices were definitely my vibe. The videos we saw were of some of my favorite interviews and favorite performances. The music played from room to room were the jams. I sang, danced, clapped, and CRIED. I thought that I would be among folks who would do the same. I was almost in disbelief that I was the only one vibing. I couldn't tell if the other folk present were even Prince fans. I guess in the end, my culture really shows their excitement for music and nostalgia in outward expression. Others, not so much. Tommy, who served as our guide, was totally kindred, however, and was utterly amazing! He felt like a lifeline to me. I had read about him prior to my visit and was excited to hear his stories and connect with his deep respect and appreciation for P. Tommy had visited Paisley Park for years to attend various events. He shared with us that he had been invited to many of the impromptu performances that I had heard stories of in the media throughout the years. You know, where P would randomly have folks over at midnight for a concert. Tommy's stories of conversations with some of my personal favorite artists made the tour added to my excitement. I found myself fan-girling over Tommy when I was coherent enough to actually hear what he was saying. I asked him to take a picture with me at the end of the visit. He graciously obliged. There are other special touches such as having photos taken with P's instruments, the dope items sold in the gift shop, and snacks, particularly P's favorite cheesecake. The visit was likely the most thrilling ticketed "celebrity" experience that I've ever had. Even more exciting than seeing Prince in concert when I was young. I merely liked him then, but being in his home/his safe haven/his creative space after gaining more and more adoration for him throughout my formative years, considering the evolution of my sensuality and usual mode of operation developed through his music, movies and such, this was truly one of the highlights of my life.

Yelp
What a great tour- we did the 2 hr VIP tour and Kyle was such a great tour guide through it. We were put in a group with total of about 12 people. We got to see rooms Prince used to edit, record, hang out, and his personal concert venue and bar . They actually have a barista and you can get a few snacks and drinks there. Prince has 147 guitars on his property , his own costume center and guitar center , smaller music venue with basketball court, ping pong table that you can play on during your tour. It was so interesting !! Thank you Kyle for your time and going out of your way to answer our questions and give us tidbits of info about Prince maybe not easily known online (Prince loved marshmallow treats).

Yelp
My wife and I traveled to Minneapolis from Indy for our anniversary, primarily to see Paisley Park. It was wonderful; well worth the $200 we paid for the three-hour 'ultimate' experience. The man inspired fierce devotion from his fans, and this museum (which Prince had always intended PP to be) is for those people. The Ultimate experience included tours of his three studios, left more or less untouched from when he died, and some cool videos from the tour archives that are not available anywhere else (shown in Prince's personal theater, no less.) My wife is a huge lifelong Prince fan, and there are people like her all over the world, who treat a trip to PP almost like a pilgrimage. (One guy in our group had flown in from Japan.) She was blown away, and so was I, even as more of a casual Prince fan, but a big fan of 80's/90's cultural history. This tour also offers great insight into the recording and movie industries of that era. Finally, high praise for our tour guide, Jessica, who was the perfect balance of guide and fellow fan; you could really feel the 'wow' nature of the experience in her voice, like she was giving the tour for the first time to a group of her friends. Big plus. Yes, they seal your cell phones in little purple bags at the tour's beginning, so know that going in. But we had a couple of cool photo ops during the tour where they took high quality pix and sent them to our phones, and the big NPG auditorium at the end of the tour is where you can get your phones back, and offers lots of photo ops.. They're protective of Prince's IP, but anyone with a passing knowledge of the man could understand why. Well done, Paisley Park. Prince would be proud.

Yelp
Been a fan of Prince's music since I was a kid in the early 80's. I came here from Atlanta to celebrate my 50th birthday and it was so worth it. The VIP experience is the best choice. It was two hours long, but it felt like 20 minutes. We got to play on Prince's ping pong table, see his live doves in their cages, see some of his costumes. This was the first time my mind was blown. You cannot imagine how TINY he was. I mean his waist was the size of a pre-teen. Kim Kardashian could NEVER. I stood in front of one of his outfits with my mouth on the floor for 5 whole minutes. I'll never get over it. The tour was well put together. There were 3 or 4 times when we got the option to sit down in a room, which is a thoughtful and helpful touch. We got to explore rooms on our own a lot. Even though some of the decor and furniture was naturally outdated, they added in a lot of state-of-the-art elements like screens playing interviews, concert footage, etc, that everything felt modern at the same time. The tour guide, Domino, has been working at PP since 2016 and it was clear how much he loves his job. He was a wonderful guide. There were tissue boxes everywhere (and a few of us found them very handy), bathrooms, even a little snack & coffee bar in the NPG Jazz Club. The souvenir shop is stocked full of great items at reasonable prices. Nice touch selling umbrellas! It felt like the building was super small, but we kept being taken into bigger and bigger rooms. I have no idea how they fit so many rooms into what seemed to be a pretty compact building. We got to go into both recording studios, both of which contained an incredible amount of energy in them. You could feel...something larger...in those rooms. It was palpable and hard to describe. I could have sat in Studio B for hours. I was surprisingly super engaged with the tour, not being a big history museum person. But when they opened a door into the Purple Rain Room and I saw the motorcycle, in the center, lit from above, I lost it. I got incredibly choked up. My heart grew 5 sizes. The room had memorabilia from the movie, awards, costumes, and a giant screen playing all the music concert clips from the movie. I tried to take as much of it in as I could, but all I wanted was to touch the motorcycle. You guys, you can't imagine how thrilling it was to see that thing. I didn't see it coming. They make you turn off your phones and Apple Watches on the tour, which I appreciated honestly. There was a constant urge to take photos, but really, I liked just communing with everything without trying to document any of it. Near the end of the tour, when they let you into the soundstage, you get to turn your phone back on and take pictures there, and in the NPG Club. I loved walking up to the giant concert stage (on the soundstage where they filmed Graffiti Bridge, other music videos, and even movies like Drop Dead Fred) and standing right up front, watching concert clips, and feeling my heart get bigger and bigger. Again, there was a concentrated amount of Big Energy there, too. All the staff at Paisley Park were incredibly nice and professional. I am very glad I went. If you have even the slightest interest in going, I highly recommend a visit. Do the VIP two hour tour. It's so worth it. My only regret was not remembering to walk down to the fan-made memorial fence (and possibly the Graffiti Bridge...bridge) just below the property. Saw it as we were driving away. It was super easy to get an Uber both from our Airbnb in Bloomington to PP and from PP to our next location. Never had much of a wait for either rides. Location had a nice amount of parking. We went on a Friday early afternoon.

Yelp
If you're in the area, this is a MUST DO! I was so enlightened and entertained while on this tour. When I tell you, they're serious about keeping Prince's legacy alive! The tour guide was engaged, enthusiastic, and very knowledgeable! She did an exceptional job at maintaining control of the group while ensuring we got our questions answered and had time to peruse the various rooms and studios. Prince was a meticulous, talented, dear soul. Grateful to have experienced learning more about him!

Yelp
We had an amazing time at Paisley Park. So much of Prince's legacy in one building. Guitars were everywhere! The staff was very knowledgeable and profesional. Definitely a must if you are in the area, or just make the trip! We did the VIP experience

Yelp
If you don't like Prince stop reading, this review is not for you. If you are like me and ADORE Prince!!!, let me tell you, stop what you are doing and head to Paisley Park! This place is everything Prince, from his youth to his last days. You will not want to leave. It's not only informative, it is a true transformative experience! This was on my bucket list and I am so glad I went. I would definitely do it again. The tickets are priced right as well. Just being in the space is worth every penny.

Yelp
Paisley Park is what happens when a visionary artist, the likes of which comes along once in a century, gets to create a personal paradise. Prince was one of the most skilled musicians ever to strut a stage, and when his success reached stratospheric levels in the mid-1980s, he had Paisley Park built to be his home, recording studio, soundstage, private nightclub, and hangout. As a member of the Yelp Elite Squad, I recevied a complimentary admission to the Paisley Experience - the basic 90-minute tour which included a new exhibit devoted to Prince's shoe collection. A visit to Paisley Park isn't just a show-up-and-explore affair. Prince's world was always carefully controlled, and when you arrive at your scheduled-in-advance tour after sealing away your powered-down phone, you still get the sense that you're in that world, like everyone maintaining the complex is personally invested in making sure everything is just the way the boss wants it. The Paisley Experience will be the right amount of stuff for many visitors, although if you're like me you'll probably be thinking about it a lot afterward, contemplating a return visit with a fancier tour. I got to see many areas that I'd heard about, such as the studio where he recorded most of his music starting with the Lovesexy era, the soundstage, and the NPG Music Club. The events he held in those spaces are the stuff of legend, and it was really cool to be there and get a sense of what it was like to live those moments. About that shoe exhibit... I'm not normally that into shoes, but Prince sure had an astoundingly massive collection of them! And it's such a diverse array of them! You can even see the wear and tear on them from his dancing, and there's a video presentation about how he worked with his cobbler partners. There are other rooms we saw, and I was completely riveted for the whole tour. Our tour guide was clearly an avid, lifelong admirer who really knew her stuff. It feels a little strange to go into details in a Yelp review about, for instance, looking around his office, or looking at his favorite guitar, or looking at his Grammys, his Oscar, his many, many other awards, etc. I just think it's fair to say that if you have any curiosity about the man and where he lived and worked, you won't be disappointed. Make sure to book your tour in advance. And be prepared to turn your phone off.

Yelp
Wonderful entertainment! Most rooms you are not allowed to take pictures so I highly encourage you to go have the experience. I loved learning more about Prince and I myself didn't realize how little his body frame is! So cool to see his outfits, shoe exhibit, his cars and so much more. Our tour guide was amazing and you could tell she is totally passionate about her job. I'm so grateful for my free ticket to experience the park as a Yelp Elite member.

Yelp
This was easily my favorite part of my trip to Minnesota. I happened to visit on the day of Prince's death. I was unable to take the full tour because it had been booked out for months. I did get to how ever visit the NRG Sound room, grift shop and memorial. I was amazed by the music and videos that were on display in the sound room. They also displayed his outfits and guitars in an exhibit. The gift shop was filled with exclusive items that any Prince fan would love. From vinyl records, to t-shirts, to keychains, they have a little something for everyone. The memorial was very somber. It was a tunnel underneath the compound paying homage to Prince. There was a couple that came and burned sage in his honor. This was an amazing experience and I will definitely come back for the full tour.

Yelp
Paisley Park was the worst experience my Type 1 Diabetic 11-year-old son has had since diagnosis. They would not allow him to keep his phone with him during the tour, even though they (at least 4 staff members) were repeatedly told his phone is the means through which his blood sugar is monitored. Because of his disease, his blood sugars can fluctuate wildly, making him at risk of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia and ketoacidosis. He could not give up his phone (a medical device for his ADA protected disability) so we could not take part in the tour. They have refused numerous requests, in person and in writing, to refund our money and are in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. I highly doubt this is the legacy Prince would have wanted.

Yelp
Great tour. Staff was very knowledgeable and professional. Staff and tours are very well orchestrated would definitely recommend visiting if you are a Prince fan.

Yelp
As a local, I'm ashamed to say it's taken me so long to get out to check this place out. I'm a huge music fan, a moderate Prince fan, and a big history lover. Paisley Park hit on all those things and then some. Thanks to Yelp Elite for my free ticket and the discounted ticket for my dad. We got to see tons of: guitars, costumes, awards, the diner, the studio, the soundstage, and over 300 of his designer shoes. Soooooo cool! Cori was a wealth of information, and a great guide. Whether you're an out of towner or a local, definitely check this place out of you get a chance.

Yelp
TBH - I don't know that much about Prince so I don't think I could fully appreciate this place for what it is! But I think Paisley Park 100% deserves to be on the Minnesota bucket list! We went on a tour early Friday afternoon and were surprised to see the tour sold out! This was my first time even seeing Paisley Park from the outside and I was surprised to find that it looks like any other office building! There was an intense amount of security. There was someone in the parking lot entrance who checked our tickets, then there was someone in the lobby vestibule to check bags. You have to lock your phone inside a pouch before you walk in the door for a majority of the tour. This is obviously great for Paisley Park to incentivize people to come visit and it was nice to truly experience it without feeling like I need to take pictures or dealing with not trying to be in other peoples photos! The tour itself was fine - our guide didn't seem to know a lot... and there were a lot of parts of the park that were very loud so it was really hard to hear. I think they would benefit from having the guides wear microphones. Overall it was really cool to see these beautiful artifacts! I also like how the tour ends at NPG Music Club and you can grab some beverages or Cheesecake Funk! I definitely want to come back for a show or party!

Yelp
I went on the 90 minute Paisley Experience. Worth every penny of the $65 ticket. The whole experience was executed flawlessly from the guy who greets you at the gate to the tour guide who locks up your phone. It included a short video of Prince's life, recording studios, the soundstage, the more intimate stage, and a shoe display! Lots of his outfits were displayed as well as guitars, awards, the coolest piano I've ever seen and the Purple Rain motorcycle. It was so much fun!

Yelp
Awesome tour. My best friend and I did the ultimate tour and it was a great experience and our guide was a frequent visitor when The Purple One lived there, so that gave our tour group a different perspective, It was wonderful to see the majestic beauty of Paisley Park and I actually loved that the view is unspoiled by phones snapping photos! There's one area at the end of the tour that allows photographs, so you can take this place in without looking at it through a small screen. Also the tour guide snaps digital photos of you in the studio and saves them to your very own flash drive. It was wonderful to see the home of my idol in all of its glory. There's even a small gift shop at the end. When we went there was even a display with his renowned show collection complete with roller skates! This pilgrimage is a must for any Prince fan.

Yelp
A very Prince artistic experience. Vibrant with his spirit and vision. The tour guide, Lauren was very knowledgeable despite her young age. She seemed to be into the exhibits and although you could tell she was gathering all the information inside her mind at times (a lot of history to retain), she did really good at answering questions and knowing facts about the late great Purple One.

Yelp
An incredible tour of the inner workings of Prince's studio, his costumes and memorabilia. Highly recommended! We did, however, have a problem with the security guard checking us in for the tour. There were 12 people in our tour, timed at 11.30am. The guard herded us together and basically treated us in such a patronizing way. We were rudely read the rules, no touching ( of course ) and absolutely no photos or video. Our phones were confiscated. It wasn't this that was a problem. It was the way it was told to us by a heavy handed security guard who had obviously had been doing it too long. Rude, bullying and patronizing. I'm sure Prince would have been upset to see how his guests were being spoken to. The tour itself was incredibly good and I highly recommend taking the time to do it. Paisley Park is about 40 minutes from Minneapolis. We rented a car for the day, cheaper than the Uber there and back, and then used it to explore further after leaving Paisley Park. An amazing experience, sadly marred by a gruff security guard.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I are huge Prince fans. We made the road trip from Denver to Minneapolis especially to see Paisley Park. It did not disappoint. The building is absolutely incredible and worth every dime of the admission. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and seeing and experiencing all the places where Prince made such work changing music was special to both of us. I highly recommend this tour of you love Prince and his music as much as I do. Incredible, incredible, incredible.

Yelp
Got to walk through the studio of the late Prince and very exciting, found out the band will be having a release party on 10/ 27 for new music.

Yelp
What an amazing historical venue and home. A must see if you visit the twin cities. I love the fact that they are trying to keep prince's vision alive by not allowing the use of photography in the majority of the tour. I did the simplified tour (paisley experience). The tour guide Reese was phenomenal and each room you go into is an experience on its own. I won't spoil it for you. For any music lovers...this is a MUST! You do get to see his grammys, Oscar, and lots of gold and platinum records. Walking inside was like stepping back into the best decade ever....the 80's.

Yelp
Not enough about Prince and his personal life. Loved his professional life but was very impersonal.

Yelp
I have toured the museum twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed it each time. They changed the museum so I saw new memorabilia the 2nd time. I was just going to go a 3rd time two weeks ago with family from out of town but it appears the ticket admission prices have doubled. It would be nice if they had a local residence option so we can go frequently or with family and friends when they travel here. I am willing to spend $35 each visit but not $69. Definitely with seeing at least once. Prince was an icon who is greatly missed by his fans.
