Theres no denying that the architecture and interior of the restaurant is beautiful with a nostalgic feel. Lunch time is perfect for the sunlight to light up the dining space. However the food and service were disappointing. We ordered the lunch menu, the starters were fine and tasty. However, we then had to wait 40 minutes between starter and main. When the main course finally arrived, the potatoes were undercooked and hard. It was like cutting into an apple. The beef was tough and chewy with no flavour or sauce. The best part of the dish were the carrots and peas. Furthermore the staff were polite however very hard to flag down. Our drink orders were mixed up with another table. We came with high expectations due to recommendations however left feeling disappointed.

Don’t come here for the food because it’s naaaaasty. The starter of chicken wings was absolutely inedible. The main was better but completely bland and lacked any kind of seasoning. The service was slow and had attitude. The only reason to come here is the actual venue which is pretty and unique.

I've heard so much about this place and today I had the chance to visit for the first time for my mom's birthday. The service and food were amazing! Plus, the three of us ate as much as we could and the bill was surprisingly lower than we expected. Special thanks to Jamie, who helped me a surprise for my mom's birthday he was very helpful and kind to us. I will definitely comeback!

Google
The best place for a dinner! Suck a lively and energetic restaurant. The stuff is super nice and fast! The food was amazing, we tasted all types of different dishes.

Google
Food is amazing, the host that sat us to the table was super rude, but luckily our host was super nice.

Nice food and drinks. Lunch time view is better with nice natural light penetration. Overall the structures holding on to the restaurant were impressive, enabling nice photos. I enjoyed my time here. Cherry beer was good! May 2022

Google
Everything was fantastic! The staff were incredibly friendly, and the interior was truly lovely. However, one major letdown was the food, which is a significant issue for a restaurant. While the food was average overall, it didn’t meet Ghent’s standards, where you can find better options at similar prices. Unfortunately, this will be our only visit, which is disappointing given the beautiful setting

Had a lovely dinner here with my group of friends, and it was definitely a highlight of my time in Ghent. Impressive interiors, great service, good food, especially the dessert.

Yelp
You won't be able to beat the ambiance and the view of this restaurant. The atmosphere is definitely different than your normal type of Brasserie. As you can imagine from all of the pictures, the open skylight of this place is just amazing. When we came here I also noticed that they have an oyster day where a lot of sellers and restaurants come together and sample oysters. I thought that was pretty awesome. Anyways for food, I got the fish special which you probably won't get to have. It was good. I wouldn't say that it was absolutely spectacular, but I thought it was seasoned well. The special also came with a side of oysters along with the main meal with the fish and I thought it was pretty great. I got to try out some oysters which is always a delight. Service is okay, when you're done eating, you pay at the front so no need to wait at the table. Overall, my visit here was definitely welcomed. It was a little rainy, as Belgium usually is, but seeing the rain through the skylight just felt super cozy. I would say that the ambiance place definitely hits it.

Yelp
*3.5 Overall, the food was really enjoyable. They have a lunch menu with an appetizer and a main dish combination. It seems that everyone got tableside bread except for us. We decided to not ask about it since we weren't too hungry and the service was exceptionally slow (way slower than usual for the area). I like the atmosphere and the interior design of the restaurant.

Yelp
Lovely spot in a converted factory. Nice varied menu of modern Belgian food. Lots of oysters and fish. Great beer, of course. I had the Tripel Karmielite. Smoked Salmon app was delicious but I would have served a nice simple sauce with it. Then the pork knuckle from the oven- a main big enough for two, really. Yum.

Yelp
Great atmosphere in this upscale restaurant. Really cool interior! Got lucky with the last unreserved table. Pretty upscale menu and lots of menu options. Ordered the lobster bisque to start. Pretty delicious; pricey but delicious. I ordered a Bouillabaise of North Sea Fish with Shrimp and mussels. The dish was amazing only surprised by the size of the shrimp. I think those were too small; so just keep in mind when you order!! My colleague had the charcoal grilled beef tenderloin and enjoyed it. Overall, food was delicious but in my opinion overpriced. Food 5/5 Atmosphere 5/5 Service 4/5 Price 2/5

Yelp
Look the food is really good here, but the service is like eating at a cafeteria. The f**king waiter (sorry no other adjective to describe him) came up to our table and was annoyed because we weren't ready to order. We ordered a bottle of wine and two bottles of water and wanted to decide later. Then at the end of the dinner we asked to separate our check, 75% and 25%. Not possible! WTF? The guy who waited on our table was an arrogant asshole, and quite frankly ruined what might otherwise been a nice meal.

Yelp
Amazing seafood and excellent service on this beautiful restaurant. The lobster salad is a must. If you love lamb, the chef cooked it to perfection with blueberry wine reduction. Make your reservation early or you may be disappointed that the evening is sold out. The ambiance is great but could be a little noisy. Still it is a fantastic date night spot or family dinner. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
What is all the fuss? I'm extremely disappointed during my visit here. I had high hopes after finding out about it by the positive reviews of others as well as coming recommended via the Michelin Guide. Midweek, without a reservation I tried my luck and boy was I excited when they said yes, they had a table! The venue is so impressive, lots of character and much larger than I expected. Unfortunately, it all slowly started to go down hill, the table was in fact right beside the door, as people were coming, going, settling up their bill, etc. it just wasn't ideal. Yep, I know someone has to sit there! After being seated for roughly 5mins we were finally presented menus, after reading it for about 5 or so mins, we were ready to order... Shame the waiters weren't ready, we lingered for about another 10 mins before our order was taken. We ordered drinks; 2 different reds when they arrived at the table both were put side by side at the edge of the table, not placed beside us or at least tell us which wine is which. Food was very slow then making it's way to us, when it arrived, agree it looked great. I had the Steak Limousine which sounds great on the menu, taste wise, not so great. Very salty sauce and the cold cabbage side, the cuts were large/too thick which made it not so pleasant to eat or at least not when pairing it with the steak. Hey, they may have been going for texture but it wasn't right. The steak, also wasn't as tender as I was expecting, very chewy which at medium, it should have been much more tender and easy to easy. Having finished eating, it was a good 15mins before anyone came to clear our plates away, dessert menu was not forthcoming and already, as a lunch we were there over 1hr 30mins having just had one course and with the service being so lacklustre we decided to not ask for the dessert menu and instead skip. Even with plates cleared, we have no staff come by asking if we wanted to see dessert menu or collect the bill, etc... We had to flag someone down, asked for our bill and oh no, here we go again... Waiting! In the end, we took the bill when it finally arrived and paid directly at the till, couldn't bare another wait whilst they flat around looking for the card machine! Whilst only a visitor to this area, I wouldn't be recommending this place nor looking to return.

Yelp
I really don't know where to begin. Let's get this out of the way; the only thing good about this place was the ambiance. The service was horrendous. The waiter was rude and absentee like a drunken stepfather on Christmas. It took us 2 hours to complete a one course meal. 20-25 minutes to receive drinks. Another 20-25 minutes to receive a bottle of water. Drink refills? Forget about it. It's a one drink shop. 17 euros for two shrimp croquettes. Nonsense. It was more like minced meat meets bitterballen. The pasta was chewy, fish was bland and the ham was decent. Best line of the night from waiter "tell me", instead of good evening may I take your order. If the hostess says " we have a great table for you upstairs " walk away. Walk far far away. And go somewhere else. Buyer beware. Be very aware.

Yelp
This is a visually cool restaurant slightly hidden a half block off the beaten path in downtown Ghent. Awesome decor and the raw oysters were probably the best I've ever had. Scottish salmon was good but not memorable. The staff was warm and accommodating. Large group and all food came out tightly delivered. Everyone enjoyed their meals (I will get the mussels next time...huge portion and smelled delicious!) Only complaint was it was a LONG evening. We had a large group of 13, but 4 hours was more than we intended to stay. ;-)

Heiko F.

Yelp
Horrible service, cold food! We have been here for two and (tried to have) had dinner. After one hour waiting we asked where our food is. They said it will be with us in 5 mins. After further 20 mins. I got a cold steak. After complaining they have taken it away and the waiter said that they put it back to the oven (!). What they did. I got back an overcooked steak with cold side dishes. Which I refused to eat.

Susanna A.

Yelp
Terrible experience. Awful waiter and it didn't get much better even though we complained about his service. The staff were too busy to look well after us and the price was very high. Please go somewhere else when you are in Gent.

Fernando A.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, good food. My wife and I came here for dinner. We shared a warm goat cheese salad that was delicious. I had the chicken fricasee, which was just ok, a little on the bland side. I almost never order chicken, but had had beef and lamb the past two nights. My wife's fish special was excellent. Pollock, salmon, and bream all fresh from the North Sea. For dessert, we shared the cheesecake with specious crust which was also quite good. Pakhuis has a small variety of beers, and I was happy to try a lambic beer (geuze boon) that was also really good.

Jesse T.

Yelp
Solid location near the Marriot AND the NH Belfort in Ghent. Great food portions, good beer selection. It gets crowded for a reason. Yes, you are going to spend two hours here. WELCOME TO EUROPE. The mussels, if I remember correctly, come in two varieties. I believe they had a spicy Asian version, but I didn't find those all that spicy. Service was excellent, and if going on a Monday, I recommend a reservation since a lot of restaurants are closed on Monday, hence they get full quickly.

Yelp
Very nice place for a casual diner in Gand. Great food & super friendly staff! Quality seefood

Yelp
Good food, good atmosphere. Service was good and friendly even though I only speak English. Food was well prayed and tasted great

Amie D.

Yelp
This came highly recommended so had high hopes (perhaps too high). Pakhuis is good and known for seafood but neither the service nor the food lived up to the hype and especially the prices. It's two-story, spacious, modern and old world hybrid feel - it's a lovely restaurant with lots of outdoor seating and bar area as well. It is hard to find if you're not very familiar with Gent: it's on an alley behind the McDonald's. It is very popular so recommendations are strongly recommended. The service was somewhere between poor and average. Again, at these prices, you expect better service. Staff weren't rude, but certainly weren't welcoming, attentive, or great at their jobs - had to ask for side plates for shareable apps we ordered, we had to ask them to clear empty glasses and bottles, waiter had zero personality. The food was good overall - the terrine was excellent and the wild boar stew was good, but the lobster bisque as the worst I've ever encountered. So prepare of mediocre service, hit and miss food and all for some substantial cash.

Yelp
Generally a great meal. The place was Huge, so I figured they were ok with a packed house but the steak took an hour. I got 3 different answers from the different servers that we're all helping and nobody took responsibility. No comped desert or apology. Hmmm. Besides that incident the food was decent - nothing that would cause us to return. We had the huge seafood tower and steak. Both 4 stars, just that service issue bugs me.

Josiah D.

Yelp
Terrible experience at the Pakhuis. We made a reservation earlier in the day and upon arrival were told we must not have called. While talking to us, the manager winked and nodded two two friends who were standing two parties behind us in the line. We were asked to wait while they cleared a space for us but after 20 minutes of sitting the dirty tables hadn't been cleared. We ended up walking out as did the couple behind us who arrived around the same time.

Yelp
This is a must-go when in Gent. This restaurant in located in the middle of town. I had a lovely 3-course dinner here. Everything tasted delicious. I don't think it is that expensive and since the food is good and the service also, it is fine. There are also often special 3 course chefs menus, they are cheaper than eating a la carte. The restaurant is also very beautiful. Industrial and classy both at the same time. I loved it! I made a reservation one day before the dinner and it was not a problem but since people say it is often full you should probably try to make your reservation a bit earlier.

Thomas D.

Yelp
Not one of the cheapest in town but worth a recommendation if you're looking for a good meal or just want to have drinks and enjoy the great atmosphere. The building itself gives the place a great setting but also enforces noise so when it gets crowded, it can get a bit loud. In short: great cocktails, good food and a very warm, industrial feel.

Philip S.

Yelp
A diverse and excellent menu. Good service. And the food I had was very good. Most interesting is the very cool interior environment of old industry.

Lauri P.

Yelp
Make a reservation, cuz this place is hoppin' every night! Pakhuis is an incredibly unique place and half the dining experience is taking in the awesome visual. The service is slow. It was slow getting seated, it took at least 10 minutes to get menus and water, then another 15 to place an order. The goose liver pate we had to start was delicious! The flavour was rich and balanced, and the toast points were nicely toasted. I ordered the duck fillet as a main, and unfortunately found it bland and unmemorable. I'd still recommend Pakhuis, cuz it really is cool and I haven't seen a place quite like this anywhere else. Be prepared for a long, long dinner and of course, make a reso.

V N.

Yelp
Solid food. I had the chicken fricasse and it was goooood! The chicken was good but the accompaniments stole the show - leeks mushrooms, veal meatballs, root veggie and croquettes. It's all in the details. Good service and butter not too cold. Yeah I'm impressed. Hip vibe and definitely worth coming back!

Billy D.

Yelp
The interior is cool - it feels like you're in a greenhouse meets old factory. One of a kind. Seems like it gets pretty busy, like SK said, so make sure to have reservations ahead of time. The service wasn't very good when we were there, and it took a long time to get our food. My meal was pretty good, but others weren't impressed. They definitely have a focus on seafood. All in all, I had a nice time, but not blown away. Don't let the term "gastropub" fool you :) - it's fairly upscale, and expensive for dinner. Maybe lunch is a little more toned down.

Clem R.

Yelp
I found the place amazing but unfortunately, the food was not great, it was just ok... the service was alright. Overall, they seem to bet on the place... so if you really want to have a nice dinner go somewhere else.

Michal F.

Yelp
The space is amazing, the restaurant is built inside of an old iron storage depot. Luckily this depot used natural light for illumination so there is a fabulous glass ceiling that permeates the space with natural light in the daytime. We only stepped in for beers and desserts both of which were excellent. I wish we had been hungrier because this place looks like the real deal for dinning.

debbie h.

Yelp
Great ambiance and unique good. A bit off the beaten path from the tourist hot spots and worth a visit. The appetizer of organic tomatoes with buttery ice cream was quite unique and delicious! Affordable for this level of cuisine.

Carolyn C.

Yelp
Not sure why the terrible reviews of some. The restaurant would have received 5 stars from me had it not been the snobbiness of the waitstaff. That said the food was fabulous. Fresh, innovative and large portions. I enjoyed every morsel. Price fixed menu is a bargain for this New Yorker.

Roda P.

Yelp
Place looks wonderful and the food was fantastic. I ordered the ham that was super delish with mustard, couple of my friends ordered the risotto that they both enjoyed. The service was the only thing that we are not pleased. One our food cake we never saw our waiter. Waiter was really not attentive or helpful.

Piet L.

Yelp
Gorgeous venue, nice people. Limited but sufficient choice, plenty of cocktails. If you fancy fresh oysters, this is the place to be. I prefer the menu of the day; that's the best value for money. There's a little extra in each dish. The ingredients sound familiar, but you're pleasantly surprised by the succulent taste. Service is as friendly as you may expect.

Daniel C.

Yelp
We discovered this place on yelp reviews. You need to make a reservation Pakhuis is busy. a very unique setting and fun traditional food and beer. We had a good time and enjoyed the pork knuckle with mustard very Belgian.

Gee D.

Yelp
Very good restaurant and I recommend it! Just the soup was a bit cold but it was eatable, no serious complaints about it. I would come back. Thank you!

S. K.

Yelp
Warning, book early. Really early. We were too late for a dinner there so we went the next day for lunch. Gastropub meets steampunk. Great food and good atmosphere.

Amit B.

Yelp
The only two reasons to visit this restaurant: (1) Your tour bus guide got a bribe from the place, or (2) your conference organizer got a bribe to bring your whole group there. If you are a couple or small group, there ar at least a hundred better places to go in Ghent. "High" points of my dinner there with my wife: 1. The hostess scowled when we asked for a table next to the one she offered us - even though the whole place was empty when we arrived. 2. The waitress made it very clear that her only job was to take our order. After taking the order, she never checked back with us even once. In fact, when I wanted to order some wine, I had to walk over to the other end of the place to find her lounging and chatting with her colleagues. Must be a union job, because in the States, she wouldn't even get a job at McDs. 3. After we were done eating, no one came by to clear our plates. In fact, we had to walk down to the hostess to pay, because all the waiters were too busy serving the tour groups to even give us our bill. Oh, the food - quite pedestrian. My steak was edible, though as a Texan, I've eaten far better. My wife's Cod entree was decent. We didn't stay for dessert - I wonder why!!! All in all, The PakHuis is a pretentious overpriced dump. Their motto is, if someone is really hungry, give them some food. They certainly don't believe in the quality of the experience. Ghent is a foody place, and trust me, you can find better.

Andre A.

Yelp
Very good restaurant. Good service. Worth visiting! We went there because of the favorable reviews on Yelp. We had the market menu and the wine pairing. The price was 55 euros per head. The food and service was pretty good. They all spoke good English which was very helpful. I would go back again without any resistance!

Isa T.

Yelp
We came here for some drinks and some appetizers. The place located right in the center of downtown but is mostly busy with locals as it is hidden in a side street. It is definitely worth checking out - great atmosphere and delicious food.

Janet H.

Yelp
This used to be a boat shed in its hay days. I went for lunch and it was exquisite - we had the turnip soup and beef tartar, my friend was not a big fan of the soup. Not too pricy, great ambience and setting. Must visit if you are in Gent. English menu available.

Tianqi G.

Yelp
really want to give a bad review!we were driving pass the city and want to have a great dinner. service was not good. very very slow!it cost 2 hours!they bring me a wrong dish, and they ask me to pay for it. will never come back again.

L H.

Yelp
Great venue with lots of seating, with strong food for both for adults and for kids. The duck was delicious, as was the chocolate mousse dessert. It was very hot outside, so the air-conditioned inside was a plus.

JJ P.

Yelp
Great venue, very good service with a good sense of humour but without being too informal. Menu (food and drink) is rightly sized so there's enough choice. When in Ghent I recommend to go and have dinner. Reservation is need tho, place is packed!

Chrissy H.

Yelp
Food was terrific, atmosphere was great. They took a long time to serve and clear the table but they were also pretty busy. They have a large terrace but it's kind of situated in an alley.
