We booked this hotel at the last minute so we were very limited for choice.|The hotel itself is situated on Via Etnea, which is the main commercial thoroughfare of Catania. As a city hotel, which appears to be primarily for business guests, there is no outside space and limited internal public spaces in terms of lounge/seating areas.||The hotel is clean, the lifts small but efficient, the reception area always manned.||The restaurant on the top floor has a balcony around the whole of the floor, from which Mount Etna can be seen. The hotel was under-occupied during our stay and on the two occasions we visited the restaurant there were only one or two people in it. Perhaps at other times the restaurant would seem more inviting. We had dinner on one occasion at the restaurant. There were few vegetarian dishes and the portions were extremely small for the rather expensive price.||Our room was on the 3rd floor, with no view other than the side of a building. The room was pleasant enough, though the absence of carpets made it feel a little sterile. The bathroom was well appointed but the water pressure was not very good. Towelling gowns and slippers are provided. The room was clean and the cleaning service was excellent. There is a coffee machine but no kettle so we were unable to make tea in the room. The bed was large and comfortable. There were too few hangers in the wardrobe for anyone staying for a week, which we were.||Breakfast was served on the 1st floor in a pleasant and spacious area. There was a good choice of fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereals, boiled and scrambled eggs, cheeses, cold meats, rolls, bread, jams, cakes, etc, etc. The breakfast staff were very friendly and cheerful and breakfast was leisurely and relaxing (though the monotonous jazzy background music was not very inspiring).||My feeling was that this is a well maintained hotel with all expected facilities. I did not love it - because it felt primarily like a business hotel - but there was nothing wrong with it and its location is very convenient.||Catania has some wonderful buildings and it feels very pleasant and safe to walk around the Via Etnea area in the evening. What really made our holiday, however, was the trips we made. We visited Siracusa/Ortagia by train and Taormina by train also. On two occasions the trains were cancelled and there was an hour or more to wait, which was a bit annoying. We also went on a bus trip to the lower reaches of Mount Etna which was 35 euros each. We would recommend all these locations. The city park - Bellini - is very near the hotel and is well worth visiting. It is a good place from which to take photos of Mount Etna - and there is a pastry shop opposite which is very popular. Also we enjoyed strolling around a very nice botanical garden, further up Via Etnea.||On the whole, we had a very enjoyable holiday in Catania and would like to return to Sicily to do more exploring in the future.
