Known as the “Glass Palace”, this is the Gem of El Retiro Park in Madrid.
Originally built in 1887 as a greenhouse to showcase flora and fauna as part of an exhibition on the Philippines 🇵🇭, then a Spanish colony. Today it’s owned by the Reina Sofia Museum which uses it as a venue for temporary exhibitions.
It was designed by Ricardo Velazquez Bosco in the 19th century. He modelled it on Joseph Paxton’s Crystal Palace which had been erected in Hyde Park, London in 1851. The Palace is FREE. It’s a beautiful building and the way the glass top catches the light is amazing. It’s surrounded by a gorgeous lake and greenery where there is an abundance of wildlife like ducks 🦆, turtles 🐢, geese 🪿 and swans 🦢. The palace does not open if it’s raining ☔️ but still is so beautiful to admire from outside. The buildings glass structure creates such beautiful reflections, it’s really a sight to see. I would definitely recommend a visit. Thumbs up!!! 👍👍👍
