Before going in the guard takes a picture of an ID and you can go in for free. Beautiful architecture and murals, really breathtaking. Nice place to take photos. It’s a quick stop, don’t disregard going in, at least see it once cause it doesn’t take long. Recommend 😀

First, you'll be attracted by the building's architectural design and its delicately sculptures. Upon entering this place from either the front (opposite to the Chihuahua museum) or back (across the street to the park) entrance, you will suddenly realize the strict and tough discipline that the Father Miguel Hidalgo was trying to impose, so that the entire Mexico can be freed from Spanish. The wall paintings occupies all the walls of backyard, you can say its kind of dark, as all the expressions of the figures are so cold, even in summer you still can feel it, but somehow it just simply reminds you how depressed they were back in the colonial period of time.

Awesome place, the murals are incredible and the build has a lot of details that makes this place very beautiful, you can enter without fee just need to show an ID to visit it.

Quite interesting, but we going to our disappointment that many things shown here cannot be viewed. Everything on the upper floors, even the top of the stairwell is barred from visitors. We were looking forward to seeing the ‘cow mural’ a little closer.

Beautiful place to visit and enjoy the murals.

I came across this place purely by accident. I was just wandering around and walked into this courtyard (after letting security take a picture of my id), and thoroughly enjoyed the next hour I was here. From the little, free museum on the ground floor chronicling the life of an unknown (to me) hero of this area to the art and statues sprinkled throughout; from the elaborate courtyard and the various offices in the building to the tourist information near one of the entrances, I found the Palacio de Gobierno a great way to spend some time. However, I still don't know what the purpose of this building is.

I am on a quest to know and understand my heritage and who I am. Unfortunately, I was never taught about my people but I did take a DNA ancestry test and I have ancestors here! I hope to come visit someday and really understand my own self in relation to others in my family genealogy! My grandpa was Pascual Sandoval. He was from Del Rio, Texas but his parents came from here. So down the generations, we pass down our roots and I am honored by my own DNA! It's beautiful and you all are beautiful! It's super exciting and mind blowing to know something real and definitely what I stand for in this world! I look forward to that journey & see just who will remember us, my grandparents. Birth of a Nation The Palacio de Gobierno or State Capital Building is a lovely 19th century neoclassical building with a tie to the birth of Mexico as a nation. It is the site of the assassination of Mexico's founding father (literally) Fr. Miguel Hidalgo, who was executed by firing squad in the building's courtyard square. He had been captured by the Spanish after he started calls for Mexico's independence (also known as "el grito") and housed in this remote northern state capital until his eventual death. The bottom floor houses a small macabre museum of sorts. The calabozo de Hidalgo, is the preserved jail cell of Fr. Hidalgo as it was prior to his execution. The building served has passed from legislative assembly house until the mid nineties to museum and auxiliary government building. In the fifties and sixties, beautiful murals depicting the history of Chihuahua were painted by Aarón Piña Mora in the Mexican Mural style made popular by Diego Rivera. They cover most of the first two floors of the courtyard. They feature the conquistadors, the indigenous people of Chihuahua, Father Hidalgo and most of the leaders of the revolution. It ends with scenes depicting the current age of the state. Paints a Picture

Visiting the Palacio de Gobierno " State Capitol Building " is a great opportunity to learn about the history of the state of Chihuahjua through the murals painted by Aaron Piña Mora back in the late 50's and early 60's. This is also the site where the father of the Mexican Independence from Spain was executed on july 30th 1811. .
