Palácio do Governador (Lisbon, Portugal) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Built over Roman ruins and once the home of Belém Tower’s governor, Palácio do Governador offers a stay rooted in Lisbon’s maritime past. Designer Nini Andrade Silva has transformed the building with vaulted ceilings, painted woodwork, and centuries-old tiles preserved throughout. The hotel includes two pools, a spa inspired by ancient thermal baths, and a restaurant set beneath original domes. Rooms range from Mansard doubles beneath historic beams to the grand Governor’s Suite. Just minutes away is the original bakery behind Lisbon’s famed pastéis de Belém, still serving them daily." - Tablet Hotels

From the very first moment I arrived, I was completely enchanted by this beautiful hotel. Welcomed with a glass of champagne and delicious sweets, I immediately felt the warmth and elegance that make Palácio do Governador so special. It’s more than just a place to stay — it’s a magical blend of history, refinement, and heartfelt hospitality. The building itself is stunning, combining the charm of an ancient palace with the comfort and design of a modern five-star hotel.||My room was spotless, stylish, and peaceful, with a wonderful sense of warmth and harmony. Every little detail was carefully thought out — from the soft bed linens to the calming scent in the hallways.||The spa deserves a special mention — an oasis of pure relaxation. The heated pool, the aroma of essential oils, and the kindness of the staff made me feel like I was in another world. Breakfast was another highlight, full of delicious options and fresh local flavors — the perfect start to each day.||The team at Palácio do Governador truly made the difference. Everyone I met was genuinely kind, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile. Their hospitality turned my stay into something memorable and personal.||A heartfelt thank-you to Mr. Marcos Sousa, the exceptional General Manager, whose passion and leadership shine through every detail. His presence gives this hotel its soul — making it one of the finest places to stay in Lisbon.||The location in Belém is ideal — close to the river, surrounded by Lisbon’s most iconic monuments, cafés, and peaceful gardens. It’s the perfect spot to explore the city while still enjoying the calm of a luxurious retreat.||I left this hotel with a full heart and unforgettable memories. I will definitely return and recommend it to anyone who wants to experience the very best of Lisbon — comfort, beauty, and true hospitality.

This hotel is gorgeous!! A little outside of city center but gorgeous and boutique feel. Every single person on the staff was incredible - so kind, helpful and overly accommodating. They went out of their way to show their hospitality! Spa was wonderful too!

Review of New Year's Eve Masquerade Ball at Hotel Palácio do Governador: The advertisement of the New Year’s Eve Ball ‘Réveillon’ sounded so good that we booked it for a group of four and paid 1470 EUR which included a welcome cocktail (which was not a cocktail but sparkling wine), life music (two young ladies, one playing the violin and the other the cello and who tried the hardest but made a lot of mistakes so it was hard to listen to), a five course dinner (which was surprisingly okay) paired with one white and/or one red wine to choose from and a DJ starting at 11:30 PM for the countdown of the year (who played only sad songs and changed to play some lively music after he was asked by a guest to do so). And the New Year's firework, which was listed in the advertisement, was just a joke (if I did not miscount, two or three single firework rockets had been shot🤣). Also, you would expect that there would be a crowd of at least 50 to 100 people but only a few people (maybe 18 attended the dinner not even the party) showed up (probably hotel guests since some of them were not adequately dressed for a masquerade ball). Instead of canceling the event the hotel management kept all of us believing that we will going to have an unforgettable time. Yes, it was unforgettable in a way that we for sure will never set foot in this place again.

Lovely hotel. Build on top of the historic Belém wall which is super cool to be sating in such a historic place. Rooms are spacious, bed is comfortable and they have a pillow menu. Yep, you can choose your custom pillow style...amazing! Food was decent, bar was excellent. Nice swimming pool and beautiful grounds. Location was great. About 25 mins into town center on the 15E which is right out side your door. It was nice to be away from the business of downtown. You are a 6 min walk to Belém Tower. Unfortunately its totally closed so you can't visit or take pics. Decent amount of restuarants all within 15 mind walk or quick tram ride. Lots of options for everything here. The area is safe and we felt safe walking around early morning and late at night. Staff was awesome. Very attentive, very nice and very accommodating. Excellent time here and look forward to staying here when we return.

Everybody at the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. Staff was also very accommodating in making our anniversary special with a nice setup of roses and champagne and a picture (that I texted them) printed and put in a frame in the bedroom. It was perfect and magical.

The hotel has a lot of charm and we felt very welcomed here. There are some really nice design touches that make the place feel classy and sophisticated. The spa is really great here - has a very old world, classic feel to it although the facilities themselves are completely modern and work well. This is the first sauna experience I had in Portugal where the temperature was actually correct because it was designed properly. The location is fine if you don’t mind being out of the city and want to have a more chilled experience or see the museums. But it is around a 15/20 min car ride to the city so you need to be aware of that.

We stayed here a week ago for our last night in Lisbon. Location is not far from Belem, but definitely not in the heart of Lisbon, which is why we chose it for our last evening. A little bit of self care before long flight home. The staff were super friendly from the moment we walked in. Lunch and dinner on the terrace were fabulous. The whole hotel is beautifully appointed and quietly luxurious. Pool made for a welcome cooldown. I would love to have had maybe a coca cola zero in the mini bar and more water. But a lovely stay and we found the best little sandwich shop not far from the hotel. Will definitely recommend this hotel

This hotel never disappoints. The people and staff are wonderful and it’s just such a pleasant place to stay. The rooms are beautiful and well kept and something we have noticed over the past few times we have spent here is the wash products that are used are amazing ! It is also the first time we used the spa and absolutely loved it. On check out the hotel is so mindful that you even get a bag with some water and biscuits for traveling. A really big shout out to everyone including housekeeping and a very big thank you.

Yelp
Beautiful historic building, with elegant and hip decor. Deep blue velvet chairs set against traditional Portuguese tile work designs make a lovely combination. Some parts of the edifice have bricked arch ways that simply enhance the whole ambiance. The service was superb! From the front desk agent to the bell man who gave us a guided quick tour of our room and personally explained the property, food & beverage venues, room amenities and spa to the restaurant staff. With an outdoor and indoor (inside the spa) pool at your disposal, they make relaxation easy. I also loved that the atmosphere was elegant without feeling stuffy or pretentious. Great location, right near the Historic Belem Tower and with tram and bus lines to anywhere in Lisbon. Another great thing that is rare in the city, this property has it's own underground parking garage and it's included with the nightly rate! Breakfast was also complimentary and had both hot and cold items, espresso coffee and mimosas. It was wonderful and I will definitely stay here whenever in Lisbon!
