This is a beautiful historic hotel in a great location. The hotel is in the heart of the historic town, which makes it an ideal location. The hotel seems to have been recently renovated. Our room was very spacious with attractive new furnishings, a large bathroom and a lovely view from our window. The breakfast was also abundant and delicious. The staff were also considerate and caring.

I paid $80/night for two nights, including breakfast. Credit cards accepted. Huge room with high ceilings and all the space you need. Huge bathroom with good shower pressure and endless hot water. Bed was fine. No noise from other rooms or the street. Excellent location close to the cathedral, the Grao Vasco museum, and the Church of Misericordia. Breakfast buffet was perfectly adequate. Wifi. Aircon. Minifridge. Staff efficient and professional. For eighty bucks a night, you can't do better in Portugal...

The hotel is in an old, baronial palace. |Completely renovated to modern standards, it still has the charm and charisma of its original use. |The service was impeccable. |Starting with the front desk staff member that checked us in, to the dining room attendants that helped us with the included breakfast. |Parking was free, and because we travelled with our special needs grandson, it was guaranteed by that very attentive front desk staffer that even offered to move us to a more accessible room. A very nice and caring person. |The room was very comfortable, and surprisingly noise free. |The breakfast was very well served, and the staff very pleasant and efficient. |I enjoyed exploring the part of the hotel that was left like it was originally, with his sitting rooms furnished with period furniture. |The location, in the old part of town, was the best we could have hoped for. We could walk to most of the attractions in the city, and there were lots of very nice restaurants in the vicinity. |In all, a very impressive stay at Montebelo Palácio dos Melos, Aveiro.

The building is very nice, right in the centre where most of the historic buildings are. The room was very big and also the bathroom. The staff are nice. The breakfast was very nice. ||The parking is limited and forget parking close by if it’s full. ||The blue carpets on the stairs need to be vacuumed as they are very dirty.||The black out curtains don't close fully, i had to put my hair clip to keep closed.||The biggest issue is they have old windows on the street side so forget going there if you actually want to sleep. They know the windows are bad as they said they have ordered new ones. The issue is the guests don’t know until they are trying to sleep with people screaming under their window. We were there new years eve, impossible to sleep so we asked to move room around 4am, they had another room with better windows so why didn’t they put us there in the 1st place. They said it was a family room but if they know the windows have NO soundproofing, they have to make the effort to make sure guests can sleep even if the room is slightly more expensive. Worst nights sleep ever and that makes everything else worse. The main people making noise were coming out of the hotel building but strange they said they had nothing going on. ||Ask for a room with double glazing windows or forget sleeping.

First off, I want to say that the staff at the hotel were absolutely wonderful and clearly they did the best they could with what they had. They were very helpful, especially Sérgio - a sweet, kind gentleman who made sure to answer all my questions and even helped guide my rental car into the parking spot. He was wonderful! We paid for the "Superior Room" - room 2, however we were very unhappy with the room. It was really dark and dingy, with tiny windows that we couldn't see out of. In addition, the bed was really small for a double and we had trouble getting comfortable. The furniture was just *old* and beat up. I would have liked to see a king sized bed in the room as well as some use for the useless antechamber (in between the bedroom and bathroom) - something like a couch and TV would have been fantastic. Room 2 missed a lot of things that would make it "superior". We ended up getting switched to room 114, which was far better. It had a double and a twin, which was fine for us. Unfortunately, the pillows were very worn out and uncomfortable. The mattresses were very good, and I absolutely loved how well-appointed the bathroom was. There's nothing quite like taking a soak in the whirlpool tub after a day of walking around the Viseu city center. The rooms were clean and well taken care of, and the breakfast buffet had just the right variety! I think Palacio Does Melos is on the right track here, but they're just barely missing the mark with the superior rooms.

First, I must compliment Antonio for his kindness in helping us find a wonderful restaurant and providing a map of Viseu. ||The location of the hotel was excellent. Our bedroom and bathroom were large, and the bed firm, but very comfortable. The room was very quiet. We appreciated a makeup mirror in the bathroom. The decor was not our style but OK. The breakfast was good. Our only complaint was that the mattress did not fit the bed frame and we were careful not to bump our shins on it.

We had a very basic room in the hotel. It was clean, however, the double bed was very small.||The shower was over the bath and the shower had fluctuating temperature which made it quite unpleasant. ||The breakfast had sloppy scrambled eggs, a variety of cheese and some highly processed meats.

Well this is a centrally located hotel in an historic building.Room was spacious and tidy. Reception service was good but especially good on my arrival. Breakfast was excellent with a toaster! BUT here is the rub. As i have not elsewhere i pick hotels if they have a laundry service. Now i thought that Sunday might be difficult..though i never understand why since i assume my washing is thrown in with everything else. But what annoys me is when you get told one thing and then another. Twice hence 3 stars and not 4
