Palácio Tangará, São Paulo, Brazil - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"How did it strike you on arrival? It rises like a European palace out of the emerald-green Burle Marx park, incongruous perhaps with the sprawl of São Paulo that surrounds it, but all the more welcoming as an oasis to find peace and quiet in Latin America's biggest city. Nice. What’s the crowd like? This isn't a place that attracts the cool creatives of the world. Rather, the crowd skews older, and the hotel is filled with people looking for something quiet, away from the bustle of São Paulo, not those looking to embrace it. Its Eden-like surroundings—located as it is in a giant, verdant park—and its palatial setting means it can feel a world apart from the city that it's in, but what it lacks in local tradition it more than makes up for in grand opulence. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. If you've stayed in an Oetker Collection hotel before, like Le Bristol in Paris, you should know what to expect. It's all European elegance, with flower-laden terraces and white-glove services. The rooms are decorated in muted tones and subtle nods to the region. In a 7,500-square-foot room, besides a luxurious king bed, you'll find a sofa, table with chairs, a large flat-screen TV, and an extensive mini-bar. The bathroom, done up entirely in marble, has its own sound system and a separate tub and shower. Make sure to get a view of the park, an Atlantic rainforest filled with endemic fauna. You might just have a monkey on your balcony when you wake up in the morning. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? The lobby, decked out in light fixtures made from antique crystal decanters, is a wonder in itself. There you might find someone playing soft bossa nova on the grand piano next to the bar or a violinist serenading guests. It's usually a lively scene of locals having meetings or guests enjoying afternoon tea. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why? The service is seriously exceptional, whether you're dealing with a server at the exclusive-feeling Tangará Jean-Georges restaurant or the concierge. As an example, when I mentioned that I was a fan of Burle Marx, who designed the park, an hour later a folder full of information on the Brazilian landscape architect was sent to my room. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. Two large pools, one indoor and outdoor, and the subterranean Sisley spa are additional highlights. As is the opportunity to have a traditional English high tea while overlooking dense the Amazonian foliage that fills the park. Also, don't miss the wine cellar, where you can participate in wine tastings (including of Brazilian varieties) on a bespoke table, made with glass and pequia tree roots. Bottom line: worth it, and why? While this isn't the non-stop São Paulo you may have expected, that's kind of the point. Here, in the heart of an expansive park filled with birds and monkeys, is a refuge from the frenzy of this teeming metropolis. It's palatial luxury of the kind you'll find all over Europe—but will rarely encounter in Latin America."

The sexism and adherence to fake hierarchies at this hotel are next level. As individuals, most of the staff were lovely. Just super nice, kind, funny smart. Those with the slightest amount of power were comically autocratic and bureaucratic. The insults come through forced waits, attempts at crappy seating, being ignored poolside, etc. It was laughable if it wasn’t so insulting. These people are used to a certain kind of guest who is as performative and shallow as a plate of margarine. Pretty place but totally not worth the BS factor.

Palácio Tangará is our absolute favourite hotel in São Paulo. The staff are always so kind and welcoming - they truly make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. The service, the atmosphere, everything is just flawless. No faults at all. I honestly can’t wait to go back!

Stunning hotel, tucked away in the midst of a city park. Well appointed and spacious rooms, clean and classy with amazing facilities. The Restaurant Jean Gorges has Michelin quality food with a wonderful sommelier - be warned, it’s not open Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. The main restaurant and pool bar are open everyday and also do great food and the terrace provides a beautiful setting for lunch and dinner.

My partner and I attended a wedding here at the Palácio Tangará which was absolutely incredible, but what really made it memorable was the service we received. Ataniel went above and beyond for us and was so kind and helpful. He made an already phenomenal evening unforgettable.

A beautiful, high end experience. Sounds of birds, nature, tranquil, luxury. Amazing business conference facilities. Support team went the extra mile in the hotel and in the business centre with charm and a smile. Rooms luxurious. Congratulations to the team from door, to reception to bars and restaurants, to the cleaning teams, room service and housekeeping, to the business centre, catering and grounds keepers - it was a 6 star experience at what now seems a very reasonable 4 star price, and far exceeded expectations. I have travelled to luxury hotels all over the world and this was the best. I honestly didn't want to leave. It's worth it. Hope to come back soon.

We stayed here on our honeymoon (visiting from Australia) and had a fantastic experience. All of the staff were very friendly, looked after us (especially as our Portuguese is limited) and made our stay very memorable. We loved all of the facilities - the gym, spa, restaurants, pools and rooms all are setup to a feel luxurious.||The location is situated a bit out of the main city areas which provides some nice calmness - situated in the park there are beautiful birds and monkeys you can see. Travelling into the main city sites was easily arranged with the concierge.||We would recommend to anyone visiting to São Paulo looking for a luxury and relaxing hotel stay.

We are American's that received terrible service and hospitality. It ruined our wedding anniversary. Reception manager was arrogant and rude. So bad we went home. We are two Americans living in Brazil and were excited to spend our wedding anniversary at what seemed like a very nice hotel. Unfortunately, the experience was nothing short of disappointing. Prior to our stay, we received a phone call and an email to arrange our stay, but neither one mentioned that we would need to bring our government identification to check in. When we arrived, my husband had his, but I didn't have mine. We have been living back and forth in the States and Brazil for years, and I have always been able to check in other hotels with a picture of my ID. I don't carry my physical identification unless I know I need it because, unfortunately, in Brazil there is a high chance of getting robbed. When we tried to check in the manager at the front desk told us that there had been an email sent informing us of the requirement to bring a physical ID and that there was a law and they couldn’t check us in without it. As foreigners living in Brazil, we were unaware of this law, and we were never informed of anything in their prior communication. My husband had to drive all the way back home to get the documents, enduring heavy traffic, which caused us to lose a significant amount of time (multiple hours). By the time he returned, we realized that staying the night had become pointless, given how much of our evening had been wasted. To make matters worse, the entire interaction with the reception manager (from start to finish) showed no empathy or willingness to make any accommodations. The biggest problem was his attitude that was condescending, cold and dismissive throughout, which left us feeling completely uncared for. When I presented the email that we received from the hotel THERE WAS NO INFORMATION ABOUT BRINGING IDENTIFICATION. I showed it to the manager and, he said, correct, there is nothing about identification here, but it’s the law and there is nothing I can do. He then smiled and quickly walked away and into a room and didn’t come back out. I understand that there is a rule, but the main point of complaint was how rude, cold and dismissive the manager was. We are foreigners and have no way of knowing this law. The manager acted like he didn’t care one bit that our night had been ruined. I told him that I would like to send a formal complaint about how everything was handled to his manager. He told me that I could send the complaint email to HIM, and that HE would forward it to his managers. That is Ridiculous. For a hotel that charges premium prices, you’d expect premium hospitality. Instead, we received service far worse than what you'd get at a Marriott or Hilton. Ultimately, by that time it was 10PM or 22 hrs, we decided not to stay the night and returned home, resulting in a ruined wedding anniversary. This experience left a sour taste, and we would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for quality service and care. If you are American traveling and considering this hotel, don’t be deceived by the pretty pictures, you will have better luck in a hotel chain that has been vetted by the USA like the Hilton or Marriott.

We just stayed two fantastic days and nights at the Palacio Tangará. The experience was simply superb! The service experience impressed and the staff was very friendly, attentive, engaging and eager to please. They went out of their ways to make sure we enjoyed every minute of it. We used many od their services from the Spa (both days) to outside and inside bar and dined both nights at their Michelin Start Restaurant, which did not disappoint us. Thank you all for making us feel special! We will be back!

Yelp
We only had dîner in the lovely and elegant outside terrace. Rhe outside temperature was a little bit chilly, and we were offered a nice table close to the heater. That was very kind and attentive. Every dish we ordered was delicious. The service was a little slow.

Yelp
Palácio Tangará is an oasis in the middle of São Paulo. A luxurious hotel with a modern style restaurant. They have recently received 2stars in the Michelin guide for the chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. I went for a special date and got the very vip table for the tasting menu. Nearby the kitchen, they gave us all the attention. It was great and the wine was very special; but somehow I waited more from the signed plates. More taste and maybe more different stuff. It was nice, but do not surprised me or anybody on the table. I would go back there to see if I change my mind. The price is very high. The place very high end.

Yelp
This is one of the most stunning hotels I've ever stayed in. As others say, it truly is an oasis in the middle of a large, sprawling city. The property is beautifully-decorated and lush with tons of greenery, fresh flowers in the lobby and impeccable service. The rooms are large (even the standard feels like an upgraded suite) and have small balconies where you can take in some fresh air and hear the sounds of singing birds among the trees. I even spotted some toucans flying around! Now for my favorite part: the food. The restaurant is by Chef Jean-Georges so expectations were high - and they were met! I especially loved the shrimp salad, crispy salmon sushi and crusted sea bass (and all the wine, of course). My only gripe is that the hotel has a bit of an odd smell, mainly in the lobby and elevators. Not sure if it's more from the materials/newness of the hotel but I'm accustomed to luxury properties having really pleasant, unique scents. Maybe a bit picky but I do enjoy a nice smell when I walk into my room. Otherwise, the hotel is spotless and the amenities are fantastic. The meetings spaces were nice and hopefully next time I'll get to enjoy the pool and check out the spa.

Yelp
This is one of the most luxurious experience in São Paulo. It feels like being out of the country for a few hours. The hotel is beautiful and the restaurant is great. Great food and wonderful service.
