Palácio Tangará, São Paulo, Brazil - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"How did it strike you on arrival? It rises like a European palace out of the emerald-green Burle Marx park, incongruous perhaps with the sprawl of São Paulo that surrounds it, but all the more welcoming as an oasis to find peace and quiet in Latin America's biggest city. Nice. What’s the crowd like? This isn't a place that attracts the cool creatives of the world. Rather, the crowd skews older, and the hotel is filled with people looking for something quiet, away from the bustle of São Paulo, not those looking to embrace it. Its Eden-like surroundings—located as it is in a giant, verdant park—and its palatial setting means it can feel a world apart from the city that it's in, but what it lacks in local tradition it more than makes up for in grand opulence. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. If you've stayed in an Oetker Collection hotel before, like Le Bristol in Paris, you should know what to expect. It's all European elegance, with flower-laden terraces and white-glove services. The rooms are decorated in muted tones and subtle nods to the region. In a 7,500-square-foot room, besides a luxurious king bed, you'll find a sofa, table with chairs, a large flat-screen TV, and an extensive mini-bar. The bathroom, done up entirely in marble, has its own sound system and a separate tub and shower. Make sure to get a view of the park, an Atlantic rainforest filled with endemic fauna. You might just have a monkey on your balcony when you wake up in the morning. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? The lobby, decked out in light fixtures made from antique crystal decanters, is a wonder in itself. There you might find someone playing soft bossa nova on the grand piano next to the bar or a violinist serenading guests. It's usually a lively scene of locals having meetings or guests enjoying afternoon tea. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why? The service is seriously exceptional, whether you're dealing with a server at the exclusive-feeling Tangará Jean-Georges restaurant or the concierge. As an example, when I mentioned that I was a fan of Burle Marx, who designed the park, an hour later a folder full of information on the Brazilian landscape architect was sent to my room. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. Two large pools, one indoor and outdoor, and the subterranean Sisley spa are additional highlights. As is the opportunity to have a traditional English high tea while overlooking dense the Amazonian foliage that fills the park. Also, don't miss the wine cellar, where you can participate in wine tastings (including of Brazilian varieties) on a bespoke table, made with glass and pequia tree roots. Bottom line: worth it, and why? While this isn't the non-stop São Paulo you may have expected, that's kind of the point. Here, in the heart of an expansive park filled with birds and monkeys, is a refuge from the frenzy of this teeming metropolis. It's palatial luxury of the kind you'll find all over Europe—but will rarely encounter in Latin America."

The afternoon Tea is so perfect. I want the hazelnut chocolate chip cookie recipe! It was my favorite! The terrace waa shaded and warm. So many loud people. This was my first visit to Brazil, so that must be how it is there.

Very nice stay here on business. Everything is expensive here - I remember paying R$88 for a small water - but the design and decor is absolute the highest quality. It is truly a luxury oasis in São Paulo. That also has a negative side: you are far from most areas of the city and have to travel by taxi and cross the river which adds time.

Impressive hotel! It's also very beautiful place for a day-use. Go for dinner or lunch. Quiet place, beautiful lobby with live jazz playing sometimes. Très chic!! Must go.

Excellent! This is a world class hotel in a haven of tranquility near the centre of Sao Paolo. Service is excellent; formal, but not stuffy and perfect. The room was beautifully presented. The food was outstanding; I really enjoyed breakfast - excellent buffet. The spa / fitness facilities anre excellent; huge indoor heated swimming pool. Only one regret - we spent only one night there. Highly recommended.

Luxurious hotel super well decorated and designed. Brunch is out of this world but lunch and dinner nothing special. Rooms are lovely, spacious and clean. Spa is also very well done! You’re in for a treat if you spend on sleeping there!

The hotel is stunning and the rooms have a very luxurious and high end finish. The common areas are spacious and pleasant. ||Service, however, is the issue. I arrived by taxi and had to carry all my luggage with me as the bell boys were too busy chatting among themselves to bother. I had some issues with noise coming from events happening inside the hotel and the front desk staff and management were really slow to respond and take the issue seriously. Honestly, their indifference and cynicism to the issue were more upsetting than the noise itself.||Overall it is a decent enough place to be, though the service letdowns combined with its location make it a not so sure bet in my book.

Yelp
I'll admit it, we arrived in São Paulo expecting chaos. The headlines warned us, the travel blogs made it sound like an obstacle course of traffic, crime stats, and relentless noise. And yet, through the concrete sprawl, we found Palácio Tangará, this improbable five-star resort tucked into a pocket of jungle. Inside, it's another world. Lush greenery just outside every window. Service feels telepathic, no overbearing smiles, just perfectly timed gestures, the way good hospitality should be. You don't need to leave this place. Multiple restaurants, each with its own point of view. A bar where you can sip caipirinhas and pretend you live here. A pool with service so good you might actually forget there's an NFL game to get to. We did venture out with pre-arranged tours and private drivers, but I could have easily spent the whole trip inside the gates, alternating between the pool, the bar, and the dining room, pretending that this was our jungle estate. South American hotels know how to do service in a way that doesn't feel like theater. It's warm without trying to hard, elegant without being stiff. Palácio Tangará stands with the best of them, not just in São Paulo, not just in Brazil, but anywhere. If you're traveling for something as absurdly American as an NFL game on another continent, you want a place that reminds you you're somewhere special. Palácio Tangará is that place, a retreat, a refuge, a deep breath in the middle of one of the world's busiest cities.

Yelp
We only had dîner in the lovely and elegant outside terrace. Rhe outside temperature was a little bit chilly, and we were offered a nice table close to the heater. That was very kind and attentive. Every dish we ordered was delicious. The service was a little slow.

Yelp
Palácio Tangará is an oasis in the middle of São Paulo. A luxurious hotel with a modern style restaurant. They have recently received 2stars in the Michelin guide for the chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. I went for a special date and got the very vip table for the tasting menu. Nearby the kitchen, they gave us all the attention. It was great and the wine was very special; but somehow I waited more from the signed plates. More taste and maybe more different stuff. It was nice, but do not surprised me or anybody on the table. I would go back there to see if I change my mind. The price is very high. The place very high end.

Yelp
This is one of the most stunning hotels I've ever stayed in. As others say, it truly is an oasis in the middle of a large, sprawling city. The property is beautifully-decorated and lush with tons of greenery, fresh flowers in the lobby and impeccable service. The rooms are large (even the standard feels like an upgraded suite) and have small balconies where you can take in some fresh air and hear the sounds of singing birds among the trees. I even spotted some toucans flying around! Now for my favorite part: the food. The restaurant is by Chef Jean-Georges so expectations were high - and they were met! I especially loved the shrimp salad, crispy salmon sushi and crusted sea bass (and all the wine, of course). My only gripe is that the hotel has a bit of an odd smell, mainly in the lobby and elevators. Not sure if it's more from the materials/newness of the hotel but I'm accustomed to luxury properties having really pleasant, unique scents. Maybe a bit picky but I do enjoy a nice smell when I walk into my room. Otherwise, the hotel is spotless and the amenities are fantastic. The meetings spaces were nice and hopefully next time I'll get to enjoy the pool and check out the spa.

Yelp
This is one of the most luxurious experience in São Paulo. It feels like being out of the country for a few hours. The hotel is beautiful and the restaurant is great. Great food and wonderful service.
