Wow! What a great and different restaurant!
We have been travelling in Morocco for three months, through all the medinas, and on our last night in Meknes we desperately wanted to find a restaurant that had more than just Moroccan salads and tagines. This restaurant only opened this year, so it doesn’t have hundreds of great reviews yet; but it soon will.
The 700 year old, beautifully restored riad is a wonderful setting for this really nice restaurant and its wonderful French owners who have done a marvellous job of setting up the restaurant and the riad. They live here and they are really lovely people.
Finally, I have to confirm that the food is just fabulous. From the properly made French onion soup to the very tender and juicy camel main, to the banana flambeé, the food and service was flawless, friendly and jovial. The icing on the cake was the very nice wine that was available. We loved having a beautiful Meknes red with our meal. They even had a Limonchello to follow. It was like a breath of fresh air after the repetitive menus we have found in almost every restaurant we have been to.
Palais Marouane is only a short walk past BAB Mansour, so it is an easy walk from anywhere in the Medina. Get to it. You will love it.
