The Ultimate Guide to Visiting Pompeii (Updated 2025)

"If you want to splurge, this four-star hotel in a former cloister boasts a massive, ornate lobby, spacious pastel-decorated rooms with AC (essential in summer), free Wi‑Fi, flatscreen TVs and an on-site bar — it's well-located in a pleasant neighborhood and offers polished service and comfort." - Matthew Kepnes

We stayed at this stunning hotel in the center of everything. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It is beautiful from before you walk in all the way into your bathroom. The rooms are decorated impeccably. The windows had electronic shave so all we have to do is push a button the beds were comfortable. The sheets were pristine in the bathroom. You have plenty of space and a large wonderful shower. Even the toiletries were high-end the staff provided the highest level of customer service I wanna make a special shout out to Claudia, who went above and beyond The call of duty to make our stay even more wonderful. The restaurant recommendations were stellar directions calling taxis for us getting water bottles whatever we needed we received with a smile and the breakfast buffet. I have never seen such a spread not only was the food delicious, but it was so varied from the eggs to the cheeses through the different types of bread for toasting to the pastries. I really don’t even have words for how good the coffee is there. The breakfast buffet was just a celebration and we were giddy by how much wonderful food that was if you’re coming to Naples this is the hotel for the Very reasonable price It’s like staying at the ritz

We stayed at this beautiful hotel for a week in October 25. The Hotel's situation in the Chiaia area is perfect for access to the Lungomare, excellent resturants shopping etc. The atmosphere of the area is busy enough to be interesting but not frenetic like some others . The area is walkable and is residential . I'm a wheelchair user and the Hotel is very suitable. Our bedroom had a very well adapted Bathroom plus a second Bathroom . Each staff member we met were very helpful ,friendly and knowledgeable. The Hotel is beautifully maintained and furnished and Housekeeping standards are excellent. Breakfasts offer many choices and high quality produce. Coffees are made to order and thus freshly prepared. We used taxis to visit Galleries etc and they were reasonably priced ( metered )and reliable. Most Central areas cost between 7 to 10 Euros from the very nearby Plazza Matriti . We highly recommend this Hotel and hope to return. Thanks to everyone who looked after us

Had a great stay for one night here. Booked last minute during peak tourist season and was still perfectly satisfied. Probably one of the last rooms available, my wife and I still had a great night sleep given the cozy room facing the courtyard. Assuming this was their room with the lowest priority, they have set a good standard here and would be happy to stay again and book earlier next time. Modest yet fulfilling breakfast was also enjoyable. Highly recommended for a comfortable stay in Naples.

The location is good. The room was spacious enough - but the safe did not work, and the minibar was not an actual frig. The bathroom was a generous size. The bar downstairs appear to be open for service one night - but then nobody was around the second night. The third night I went down for some tissues, and a cup of tea. The server brought me an empty cup - and I had to ask for hot water which was a bit odd. Breakfast buffet had a good selection, and service was very quick to serve tea or coffee.

I stayed in Naples for two nights at the end of a visit to the Amalfi Coast. This is a quiet, well appointed hotel in a safe walkable neighborhood. I never took a taxi except to the airport and walked to many areas of the city. The staff were helpful and my basic room was very comfortable.

Friendly staff and within walking distance from the train station. Comfortable clean rooms and good breakfast with many options. If you have the time, the all day tour of Pompei and Mt. Vesuvius is fantastic.

The hotel is in a perfect location in Chiaia - close to food, bars, shops, coffee and the waterfront. Yet, the location is very quiet and intimate. The room was well appointed with soft luxurious sheets, a modern bathroom, and a quiet and efficient AC, which was a relief from the July heat. The only downside was that my room was on a dark side with a window facing another building so I needed lights on during the day - not great for work, but great for siestas. During my stay the hotel felt very quiet, so it is not a place where you get to meet other travelers easily, if that is your desire. The staff was helpful every time I needed help. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay and thought it was a great value for the money. Definitely would stay again and recommend this place.

My aunt and I booked this hotel through a travel agent. We were ending a three week cruise and wanted to spend some more time in Naples. We did not know much about the area or what we were going to do while we were there. Once we arrived, we knew it was the perfect decision. The rooms are spacious, clean and very well maintained. The hotel is small and quiet. There is a small bar in the lobby that’s opened in the evening. It is really more for convenience. It has about six barstools and three tables. The front desk personnel were all very knowledgeable and helpful with anything you needed. The breakfast in the morning was wonderful. The staff in the mornings were very accommodating and immediately took care of you as soon as you came in and sat down. It is a great buffet that you could eat almost anything that you can imagine. I am planning to return to Naples and I certainly will make sure this is where I stay. It is centrally located to be able to walk to the waterfront to shopping and to a lot of historical points.

Yelp
Decent location but not easy to find as it is off the main road in an alley but not long of a walk. Gated and pretty quiet where we were placed. Really nice staff with complimentary breakfast. Room was spacious, comfy, and somewhat updated. Good location and very walkable

Yelp
Never ever again. I won't be going back to Naples and definitely not to this hotel. Pros: * Water pressure in shower is awesome * The lady at the front desk was very kind and helpful * Central location to a walkable commercial area. The best is a restaurant called Brandi where the Pizza Margherita was invented, according to them, and was delicious! Cons: The rest. * You will have to carry your suitcases. There are stairs to go to the rooms even if there's an elevator because the hotel has levels * Bed was very uncomfortable. I was not able to sleep and I was wicked tired * Cleanliness: there was lot of hair in the shower. Ugh. * A little bit rundown. Do not let the nice pics online fool you. * There's no way to park in front for even 5 mins to leave the suitcases so you have to jump out of the car, run to the front desk, say you need help with the suitcases but that you will be in the next spot where you can park for a few mins and hope they will find you. * The bellboy will NOT help you with the suitcases from the car to the front desk unless you have an argument with them. Unfortunately for him, I'm Colombian - not too much scares me * And he won't help you with the suitcases to your room. The hotel does not believe in this policy. I was like.. huh? * Sketchy area in the evening. But this might be all of Naples. Not sure. Driving distance to airport: 30 mins. 30 euros for a night to park the car Parking is around the block so you can pick up the car yourself if you need to leave early since the hotel will only collect your car until after 9:30 am I love Italy but I will try to avoid driving, stopping, going to Naples until I get a thicker skin. And I will definitely avoid this hotel.

Yelp
Wow what can I say, this would have to be one of the best boutique Hotels we stayed in while on holidays in Europe during July 2011. Our room was delightful and well appointed. The breakfast was lovely and catered to all taste's. The staff were so helpful and accommodating. There is not one criticism I can truly think of. Palazzo Alabardieri is situated on a lovely cobblestone lane way, an oasis in the city right near all the designer stores (if that is what you are into.. Chanel, Armani ,Dior and one of their representatives from Paris was at breakfast the morning we were there, so I guess if it was good enough for them well.....) but also very close to the major shopping/resturant areas, via a lovely pedestrians only mall. . We really only came to Napoli for two nights to visit Pompeii and Herculaneum, but I wish we had stayed longer, we will be back again. PS: we took the train to Napoli from Roma (which was great so much better than flying which we had considered) and I thought it would be an idea to warn you all about the taxi drivers... we were grossly overcharged for the trip from the train station to Palazzo Alabardieri.. on departure from the hotel to the airport the staff told us how much it should be and low and behold the taxi driver did try to rip us off ,but luckily we knew what it should cost. Buses we discovered were a little hit and miss, timetables well did not really seem to exist and very few drivers spoke English...take a taxi to the station or long distances ...and walk everywhere else. Catching the train to and from Pompeii and Herculaneum was so much fun it was summer and lots of kids going to the beaches and fans to the soccer matches singing their team songs. It was very warm the day we visited, I found taking a light umbrella much better than wearing a hat and a lots of water. We made the mistake of doing both Pompeii and Herculaneum in the one day... if you love history take your time and allow a day for Pompeii and half a day for Herculaneum. From the station down to Herculaneum is a bit of a walk but obviously OK on the way down, just take your time on the way back and stop for cold drink and a break. I would love to hear from anyone that stays at Palazzo Alabardieri and hope you have as lovely a stay as ours.
