We spent a Friday night end of July 2024 in this Swiss historic hotel, some five kilometers from the end of the winding road up Valle Onsernone. For anyone not used to the Italian/Ticinese driving style, going up and down the 25 kilometers to the hotel may be quite daunting. There is a new and and an older part of the hotel featuring a total of 5 rooms, two of which are "historic" in the sense they belong to the older part of the buildings and are decorated with furniture and parafernalia mainly from the 19th century. You are warmly received and cared for. The pre-set, simple breakfast is served in the older part of the buidings. The bathrooms for the historic rooms are located in a corridor requiring navigating two flights of stairs in the dark. The only thing missing for an elderly guest is a long shoehorn and a potty. For anyone interested in hiking, this is a great base-camp for excursions into the wilderness.

The hotel is great - as long as you get to stay in the historic part of it. The newer rooms are functional yet very small and a bit too basic. The little balconies make up for it a bit but by far not for everything. The breakfast is great, you get to eat in the historic rooms. But the rates for the newer small are a bit steep for what they are and for what it's offered. But despite all that, I liked my short stay there. It's beautifully hidden away from the world.

My wife and I stayed at Palazzo Gamboni for one night. We had dinner in the neigbouring restaurant with a very nice staff. The hotel itself only serves (a however good) breakfast. We stayed in the "antique" rooms. They are beautiful and nicely renovated. For the stay and the meal we paid a total of 420 CHF without having ordered decent wine. That's simply too expensive.

Beautiful authentic building (make sure you stay in one of the historic rooms), very friendly and dedicated staff, fantastic food, off the beaten track. I cannot say we'll be back soon because Ticino has so much else to offer, but we have zero regrets and plenty of wonderful memories from this trip - highly recommended!

Another swiss historic hotel. Wonderful 18tg century palace. The historic suite is just wonderful ! If you take the additional historic french room you have the whole building for yourself and your family.||Very friendly owner and a delicous breakfast. ||I love it !

I had booked a historic room at this hotel or so I thought. I had an email exchange with them and comfirmed that I wanted to take the offer they made me. The hotel is in a very remote village over an hour on the postal bus out of Locarno. When I got ther they said they has never received the reservation. Then the person in charge said that what she had probably done is disregarded the email correspondence becasue she'd had bad experiences with obtaining payment from British tourists in the past. The problem was that the hotel was full so I got the bus, the last of the day, back into Locarno.

How did wealthy people making a home in an isolated mountain village 200 years ago live? This 5 room hotel answers that question. Stunning rooms, stunning views. Oh and it has a hot tub and sauna.

Very nice stay in this enchanted valley. The host was perfectly caring. Felt like home but my home is not that beautiful. Thanks a lot !
