We had a very nice stay at Palazzo Marcello Hotel Al Sole. The location is excellent, especially for anyone arriving in Venice by car — it’s just a short walk from the main parking garages, which makes arrival and departure much easier than staying deeper in the city. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, making us feel welcome right away. The building itself has charm and character, with a peaceful garden courtyard that’s lovely to relax in after a day exploring. The only downside was the breakfast — the coffee could be of better quality, and the bread wasn’t quite up to the standard of everything else. Still, overall a great stay and very convenient if you’re driving into Venice.

Excellent accommodations, location, and service. We decided on a last minute stay in Venice and were lucky enough to find Palazzo Marcello Hotel Al Sole. Walkable to restaurants, shops, the grand canal, train and bus stations, the university, and the San Polo district. The parking garage is also nearby and the hotel offers a 10% discount for parking. When I booked the rooms they asked for ID for each guest as we are foreigners. One of our party is a toddler so, without us asking, they had special bedding and accommodations for him. Breakfast is included, but our flight was so early we had to leave the hotel at 4am, so they had bagged breakfasts for us to take with us when we checked out. Excellent service. Will definitely choose to stay here again when we come back to Venice. Highly recommend.

We stayed for 3 nights in a Junior suite located at front of hotel. Positives: - Service (Lucia & in particular Luca were superb) - Cleanliness - bedding was spotless and daily room make up was most welcome. - Breakfast - superb variety & quality. - Location - close to main transport hubs and away from city centre crowds. - Building beauty & character. Improvement Areas: - Advertise increased noise levels for front of hotel rooms ( we were kept awake until 4am due to noise outside hotel). This should be highlighted on room descriptions. - Bathroom in room 203 was small, dated and not in proportion with room size and price.

Charming hotel in the city with very nice breakfast. Pros: Charming hotel in Venice with a great view of the water. The location was perfect for walking from the taxi station (Venice is pedestrian-only!) and exploring the city on foot. The breakfast was excellent, and we enjoyed eating on the terrace in a small courtyard. Cons: The room was somewhat old-fashioned, but it wasn't a big deal. The room needed a refresh.

3 night stay in June ‘25. Great location close to public transport hubs and 20 mins walk to St Marks. Beautiful 500 yr old building full of character. Great breakfast options and courtyard dining is superb. Junior Suite was spacious but bathroom was very basic (with a bath/shower), compact and dated. A/C was welcome and needed. We stayed in suite to front of hotel and noise levels in the early hours was intrusive as windows not double glazed. |Room was cleaned daily with fresh linen and towels, this was very impressive. Staff were amazing, professional, friendly and informative. In particular, Luca (and Lucia) from front desk went above and beyond to develop relationships with us recommending restaurants, places to visit etc and ensure our stay was memorable. Highly recommend staying here.

We just returned from 6 nights at Al Sole and loved it! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The AC was great! The location is perfect for using the train station a lot and for getting a private water taxi to go to the airport right at the dock out front. There were great restaurants very close. I will definitely stay here again! The original wood beams and columns are lovely and the history of the palace is quite interesting. The garden breakfast area is very cute.

I've been to Venice many times and this was the best place I ever stayed. Things I loved: Breakfast and drinks/small bites in the breezy jasmine-filled garden. Staff that's helpful and friendly and unstuffily professional. Easy access on foot from Piazzale Roma or by water taxi (staff will arrange for a ride to the airport) via the small quiet canal directly opposite. Lots of delicious restaurants within a few minutes' walk. Quiet rooms, impeccably clean. I give them my highest recommendation.

The hotel is in a great location, easy to find and just a few minutes walk from the train and bus stations. It's a beautiful ancient building. The service was excellent, really friendly and great to have 24hour reception. My only disappointment was the carpet in the bedroom; this was a very cheap carpet which was heavily stained in several places (see photos) . It really made the room look poor and dirty even though it was a large room and the bed was comfortable. Having a kettle is a very important to me as I like a coffee in bed in the morning and a kettle can be unusual to find in many European hotels, that was one of my reasons for choosing this hotel.

Yelp
This hotel needs an update review. First, the staff are friendly and gave us a great recommendation where to park. The parking lot they recommended was Venice City Park and had an attendant who sold us the bus ticket and explained clearly. Second, probably most important, is that the lobby is 24/7. We didn't need to arrange what time we will arrive or any hassle! Lastly, they provide free breakfast in the morning - not just coffee and pastries but also eggs, bacon, yogurt and fresh juices and fruits. Towels smell fresh and clean. This place is under rated. We travelled 2 weeks all over Italy in numerous "hotels" and we finally feel like we're on vacation when we stayed at this hotel.

Yelp
The hotel is walking distance to the bus and train station, which makes it convenient because rolling luggage on cobble stones is not fun. It is located in the quiter part of Venice but it is about 20-minutes walk to San Marco, which you can easily take the ACTV (water bus) for 30EUR/person for a 2-day pass. This hotel is a small boutique hotel with friendly staff but a bit dated and basic. The rooms are small and the bed is too firm for my liking. The shower is also small and no place to put your toiletries inside. Considering that we spend most of our time outside the hotel, the space was just enough for sleep and shower. The hotel offers daily breakfast - pastries, fruit, meats, cheese, cereal and hard boiled eggs. Drinks consists of tea, juice, espresso and cappuccino. [TIP] They offer free Wi-Fi but it's terrible. We never got to use it because the connection was spotty.

Yelp
Traditional Venetian hotel with friendly staff. Be sure you have European power adapters and be prepared to be creative if you want to take a shower.

Yelp
Stayed here during my trip to Venice for 2016 Carnivale di Venezia. Got a pretty good rate considering this is one of the most biggest carnivals in Italy and the place is packed with tourists from everywhere. We got a nice room that fit 3 people, paid any extra 40 Euros for an extra bed. It has a old feel charm as the building is several centuries old as is just about everything in Venice. It is situated next to a canal that has a gondola stand. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the Venice train station and is surrounded by restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. The hotel staff are very nice and accommodating and speak English. Breakfast is pretty good, salami, turkey, proschutto, several different types of croissants, rolls, hard boiled eggs, juice, coffee, cereal and fruit. We were able to walk to St, Marcos Square from the hotel but I would recommend taking a water bus to save from getting lost.

Yelp
Hotel al Sole was a very pleasant stay for our first time in Venice. Make sure you get good directions how to get there. Even though it is not far from the train station, it's easy to make a wrong turn as a lot of the Venice streets and alleyways look alike. From the moment we entered the hotel, Gabriella greeted us kindly and was very professional. She got us checked in and gave our room key, which was an actual key not a card. The giant key added to the old world theme that we found at Hotel al Sole. Keep that in mind if you prefer new and modern. You won't find that here. The room continued this motif with what I assume to be original architecture (columns) in the walls. The bathroom did not have a bidet much to our surprise as every other hotel we stayed in in Europe had one. Depending on where you're from, this may or may not be a problem. Unfortunately, our room did not have a good view. Our room (Classic Twin style in the back of the first floor) overlooked what appeared to be a storage area and was very unappealing (Room 118). Despite the view, the location of the room was nice as there was an outside staircase at the end of our little hallway that lead right to the courtyard and to the front lobby. We did not go into the dining area in the evening, but we were able to make breakfast. It was pretty basic. Hard boiled eggs, meat, fruit, juice, coffee. Nothing too exciting. As I stated earlier, the front desk staff was very polite. Gabriella was very helpful and even booked a reservation at a nearby restaurant where we received a free drink for staying at Hotel al Sole. Also, Riccardo at the front desk was quick to recommend places to go and popular places to hang out. All in all, not a bad place to stay. Again, it has a very old style feel to it, but is a pretty affordable stay in Venice and close to the train station.
