We were looking for somewhere special to help celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Where better than Verona, the “city of love”? Well, specifically, the answer to that question is undoubtedly the Palazzo Monga in the centre of that historic city.||It calls itself a “boutique guesthouse”, such an under-selling of its delights. Sure it’s small - just 3 suites and a single, large bedroom. Sure its facilities are a little limited - it has no restaurant, but is surrounded by some great places to eat. In reality it is an immaculately restored 18th century palazzo. Owner, Julia, is to be congratulated on all the effort that was required, over a period of several years, to bring this building back to its original splendour (probably to even improve upon the original!)||Service here is uppermost. Led by Arthur, the omni-available concierge par excellence. Breakfast, from a very extensive a la carte menu, is served in your suite by a delightful Italian lady (whose name I’m ashamed we failed to get). Let Arthur suggest restaurants to suit your requirements and you won’t be disappointed - he will even make the reservation for you - indeed he will insist upon it. :)||Centrally located, Palazzo Monga is within easy walking distance of all of Verona’s sights. Most guests stay just a few days. We spent 10 days here and were never bored. (Our guide was a book entitled “Strolling around Verona”, which pretty much describes our approach to travel now that we are in our 70s.)||As and when we return to Verona our choice of accommodation will be the easiest part of our trip to organise!
