Relais & Chateaux Palazzo Seneca, a Design Boutique Hotel Norcia, Italy

"Palazzo Seneca offers modern, elegant accommodation in an antique palace located 50 metres from the main square in Norcia’s historic centre, right by the enchanting National Park of Monti Sibillini. There is a small free spa, which includes a hot tub, Turkish bath and sauna. The palace that houses Palazzo Seneca was originally built in the 16th century. Along with all modern comforts and a contemporary sense of style and design, the hotel features a timeless atmosphere. Highlights are a private garden, a lounge with live jazz music played often and a charming library with authentic rare books. Each guest room has its own décor and personality. They feature romantic wrought iron poster beds, designer bathrooms and luxurious fittings. The Vespasia gourmet restaurant features famous local products, including Norcia sausages, black truffle and lentils of Castelluccio. The National Park of Monti Sibillini can be explored in hiking, trekking and mountain biking outings as well as in guided tours. Some of the highest peaks of the Apennines can be found in the area." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

Palazzo Seneca (Norcia, Umbria) 7 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The mountain town of Norcia is one of Umbria’s cultural treasures; the birthplace of St. Benedict, it’s a beautifully preserved relic, with Roman vestiges alongside Gothic and Renaissance elements. Palazzo Seneca dates back to the 16th century, and it’s been a hotel for over a century now. It might have been able to get by on sheer history alone, but the latest generation of its owning family have improved it to a level that’s commensurate with high-end luxury hotels in much larger cities — all without sacrificing any of its deeply historical character." - Tablet Hotels

We have stayed here before but this was the best stay yet.||Our room , 107, was the same level of cost as previous stays but seemed particularly quiet. The ante-room where we kept our luggage had a door, so it is possible that having 2 doors made for the incredible quietude.||As always, the attention by all staff was warm , welcoming and accomdating. At this time of year, it was a little cool to have breakfast outdoors, but the indoor breakfast area was pleasant and offered a delightful view of the Sibillini hills shrouded in mist.||The big difference with this stay was that it was our first experience to have dinner at the hotel. The food was beautifully plated, inventive, and delicious. The hostes/server in the sweet dining area was amazing to watch.|| Multi-lingual and multi-tasking, she seated, served, welcomed, and conversed with the diners at the tables warmly in Italian , French, and English. Despite each table being served numerous small plates, she never missed a beat. ||We will be attending a wedding in nearby Fabriano in June and intend to make another stop in Norcia. There is no doubt we will stay at the Palazzo Seneca.

Lovely hotel with an amazing restaurant. The town of Norica is still undergoing extensive restoration after the earthquake it experienced many years ago. It was nice to be able to support the town. The cathedral will hopefully be opened again in October.

We arrived at our second home. Everyone was so so helpful in everything. The town is beautiful, the Michelin star restaurant was very good and generous in pampering and excellent service. Our room was a little small and the TV was in a different section from the bedroom, but This is an old house and I understand the constraints . Rooms and common areas were very clean. Above all I would like to stress again the wonderful service. Specifically Laura, Michaela, Martina and Sergei as well as the waiters at the Bianconi restaurant across the street.

This was a great hotel with excellent service and an amazing restaurant in a good location in Norcia. We enjoyed our stay there and it was a central location for touring. Norcia is a beautiful town with great restaurants. It was worth the stay.

Nice historical palace located by the main square close to the Abbey. Our room had a great view on the valley, room layout and fornitures are in line with the historical building. It's a great base to explore the sorrounding area. They have 2 restarants, a michelin star and a traditional one across the street (Granaro). We had dinner at granaro an it was great. The only remark is the service at breakfast, the small buffet is completed by a la carte menu, but nobody comes to pick your order either for coffee or food. Apart from that food quality is great and the view from the table compensate the lack of service.

Some places just feel better in real life and this is the case for Seneca. The design and lounge rooms are beautiful. The “secret” Library is really surprising!

This hotel is housed in a sprawling palazzo right next to the castello in the center of town. Perfect location. The staff is extremely welcoming and helpful, and the property itself has many amenities, including a spa and wellness center, multiple cute common rooms, and a michelin-rated restaurant onsite. (They also have an osteria too, which, because of the 2016/17 earthquake restoration, is housed outside the town walls.) They feature an international breakfast buffet in the restaurant every morning. ||For one night, this was a nice experience, although our room was a little small for the price we paid. Even so, we were happy to stay in town and do what we could to help the local economy. These areas are still recovering from earthquakes, and need our help.||Norcia itself is a cute town with friendly and very resilient people. The town is a gem, even if it clearly will have years of restoration ahead to bring it back to pre-2016 normality. Easily walkable, and also easily walkable to the outside retail center, which was developed while the earthquake damage in centro storico gets repaired. Norcia itself is a great base for exploring southern Umbria and southwest Le Marche, including parco nazionale Monti Sibillini, right over the nearest range of hills.
